We have the cities of "Intercourse" and "Blue Balls". There's even a restaurant in the former that's known for their pastries. They sell T-shirts that say "I got sticky buns from Intercourse".
Personally, I live in "Beaver". But a few lucky people get to live up the road in "Big Beaver".
you seem to be assuming that the audio is somehow connected to "the terminal". anyone creating software for music/audio production is working on a system in which audio has nothing to do with "the terminal". its delivered to a signal routing path that is completely external to the computer.
You are assuming that sound can only be handled in a single way.
Your scenario is legitimate, and would certainly not involve X in any way. You could make the same sort of case for video. There are people who work on software for video production, where the video has nothing to do with "the terminal".
However, sound is also an output format for terminals, just as video is. In this usage, it most certainly is tied to the terminal. And X should be able to control all of these terminal output devices.
- It's obvious audio must be integral. Integrate it.
Why is that obvious? I, for one, don't see it at all. XFree86 sends stuff to your video card and your monitor, the audio drivers send stuff to your sound card and your speakers.
No, X accepts input from your terminal (keyboard, mouse, etc.), and produces output to your terminal (video, and yes, audio *should* be included too). Why should audio be treated any differently? It's another common output mechanism for modern terminals. The fact that audio is not controlled just means that the current X server is really showing its age.
Are there actually 2 moderators out there who said "Damn, you mean Wile E. Coyote was chasing a Road Runner? Boy that sure was an informative post. I better mark it as such!"
You two should be ashamed. Give up the rest of your moderator points. You don't deserve them.
When it comes to good, thorough documentation and API releases, I've always thought that this is an area where Linux is truly lacking. Hypothetically speaking, I think a coder learning Java for a new Windows P2P program that he must write would have a much easier time than a programmer who must learn Perl or C on his Linux box and create a network-intensive application that installs and runs the same way on all distributions of Linux, as well as Mac OS X.
Wow. I've always thought that one of the benefits of programming in C on Linux was the wealth of documentation available! For starters, there are man pages documenting every system interface and most of the C libraries.
And since Linux is a Unix clone, you can pick up any book on Unix programming and it will apply to Linux as well (I recommend books written by W. Richard Stevens, especially "Unix Network Programming" for the case you site above).
So yes, I believe you are "non enlightened". Perhaps you just haven't been doing much Unix programming. Believe me, there is a wealth of information out there.
How is their ShareAlike License different from GPL?
The major difference will be that ShareAlike and GPL code cannot be mixed, since each requires the resulting work to only be available under the same license.
Because of this, I don't see why they thought it necessary to create a new, almost identical license.
I'm just waiting for ONE major artist (Madonna, Phil Collins, Elton John, etc.) to publically refuse to resign with the RIAA...
Prince did this. Doesn't get much more major than him. Unfortunately, he was terrible at getting his message out, and nowadays people just think he was
a kook because he "changed his name to a symbol".
Not that I care that much, but Dillo is not a modern browser....it's really only at the level of an unpolished Netscape 3: capable of displaying basic pages but not anything very complicated.
Dillo is modern in that it is currently being developed, can be run on modern operating systems, and is attempting to support the most recent html specification - HTML 4.01. What you are describing is a lack of features and lack of portability. It's still quite capable of displaying most of what I want. Slashdot & Kuro5hin look just fine in it, for example.
Netscape 3 turns out not to be an option
for me. It won't run on modern linux kernels. I forget what version of HTML it supports, but it's certainly not 4.0. This is definitely not a "modern browser".
However, there are people who do not like our saying this. Sometimes those people push us away in response. On occasion they are so rude that one wonders if they are intentionally trying to intimidate us into silence. It doesn't silence us, but it does tend to divide the community, so we hope you can convince them to stop.
What a load of crap. Sorry, but Stallman is the one who uses this issue to divide the community. An example of his behavior can be found here. I quote:
Dr. Stallman insists that the proper name is GNU/Linux. In fact, he will not agree to an interview without assurances that GNU/Linux will be used in all references.
You see, I'm ok with other people calling it GNU/Linux. But I don't want to call it that, and I don't like other people coercing me or anyone else into calling it that. It is the Stallman
who is insisting on alienating the part of the
community that just wants to say "Linux".
Why not take an old version of Netscape for a spin?
That might be a viable option, but I'd probably have to go back to Navigator 3.x. I've got
Navigator 4.79 on another RH73 box, and it's a bit
too big for my P66:
~> size/usr/lib/netscape/netscape-navigator
text data bss dec hex filename
6582674 1082072 271876 7936622 791a6e/usr/lib/netscape/netscape-navigator
That's nearly an 8MB image, which is much too large for a machine with 20MB main memory.

(wow, it's actually an appropriate link, now that we know it's an hermaphrodite).
Well said.

You first...
Now it's just old.

But your avoidance of the question pretty much proves the point. It's the *person* that is bad, the "weapon" is just a tool.
Because of this, I don't see why they thought it necessary to create a new, almost identical license.
My car has killed more animals than my gun has. Does that mean my car is bad too?
So I got to wondering, "who thinks that about me and why?". So I highlighted that quote and plugged it into google
Basically, there's some retard on an inline skating forum with my name. Great. Hope my parents don't hear about googlism.
<g>
That's one hell of an image. Thank you!
That's *appropriate*.
