AMD was on a real winner when they released the K6 series - a great chip at bargain prices - substantially lower priced than it's Intel equivalent.
That's what got them the market share they have, bang for bucks.
Lately their prices have been creeping up to the point where (at least in Oz) there is little or no cost saving in using AMD over Intel, and this will seriously hurt them, I guarantee it! I think that I am fairly indicative of most users and my feeling is that I will use the chip that provides the best performance for the money, I owe no allegiance to either company.
I have used AMD quite happily for this reason for a number of years now, but for them to try to compete in the high end with a giant like Intel is sheer corporate suicide.
I hope for the sake of the average user they wake up to themselves and get back to the market that they *can* make a difference in.
The news media in Oz report what the government and the "bleeding heart" politically correct vocal minority tell them to! Ground breaking stuff like this doesn't even rate a mention, yet the friggin' Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras get's it's own Documentary Special!!! You do the math!
All this crap becomes legislation without even a single referendum, these deals are brokered behind closed doors, forged to meet the hidden agenda of whoever the greedy politician was that wanted it, and then the Australian people are TOLD what to do, it's sickening - I thought democracy meant more than this...
If your architecture is poor and you have weak Floating Point performance, it doesn't matter how fast you clock the bastard, it will still run like a dog in real world applications...
Dude, you send me the $$$ and I'll buy all the SCSI stuff you can name, but those of us in the real world have to make do with IDE, and on that topic, why should I *have* to add a SCSI controller to make up for the unadvertised shortcomings of the onboard I/O???
As for your experience as a veteran, I commend you, but does that really have a bearing on *all* games, they are not all combat oriented - what about Flight Sims, Strategies or some RPG's, the number of machines I have battled with to try to setup these types of games for customers, despite the best efforts of evil hardware like Cyrix Processors, is quite outrageous?
And why buy a console when your PC can perform more than admirably as a games machine, and output fantastic audio, given a little forethought in it's specification???
I have an acquaintance that I refer to as a Palm Pilot for his behaviour - and yes, it is meant in a derogatory manner!
Most people claiming it's legitimate use could really get by quite easily with a $20 organizer. But then they couldn't download MP3's to that could they...
I suppose you're the kind of person who delights in dispelling the myths of Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy and The Easter Bunny to little kids.
It doesn't hurt anyone to hope that just maybe we are not alone in the universe...well, maybe those religious fanatics who think the universe starts and finishes with a flat earth, but they don't count...
I've had enough of these bold lightsabre colours, what about some lovely pastel shades??? A jedi's best friend is not the force, it's his interior decorator!
I'll let you in on a little secret dude, if you don't want to look like a fool, quite frequently the wisest course of action is to keep your mouth shut, and when you open it, whether vocally or literally, it is exceptionally good form to at least get the language you have chosen to use right, lest you open yourself up to critique!
And by the way I have a number of friends who are of Non-AngloSaxon descent whose command of the English Language far exceeds many of the illiterate dolts who decided to share their pearls of wisdom with Mindcraft, so I am afraid your argument is moot.
Is the number of spelling and grammatical errors in many of the messages - there is no better way to make us all look bad than to illuminate the poor literacy of such fanatics.
On the up-side however, Mindcraft may think twice before loading the dice again...
So therefore I know full well that the Australian People are not to blame - they are in fact being screwed by that little Nazi bastard John Howard who seems to think that he has a "mandate from the people" to do whatever the hell he sees fit, simply because he managed to scrape his way back into office by backdooring the Preferential Voting System.
It's an acknowledged fact that he would never have been re-elected if the people who voted for parties like One Nation had known that his party was getting their preferences...
You just wait, when the "Beijing" chip comes out - it will kick the crap out of your damn "Nepal" "Tibetan" or "Himalayan" processors and opress the bejesus out of your system...
Just wait until some self righteous bastard looking for votes realizes that you could possibly display pornography on them --WHAM-BAM-- banned like everything else in Australia...
What pisses most of us off is that it is as usual a case of "Do as I say, not as I do!"
It's like a local Tamworth Moral Crusading Christian idiot, he spouts all of this crap, and his house is full of artistic nudes, total hypocrisy, is he really so stupid so as not to realise that nudes were the "porn" of that era?
Anyone who voices opposition to anything in our country is misrepresented and ridiculed by the media, just look at Pauline Hanson when she said the Abo's were on a pretty good gravy train, It was true, but they shouted her down something chronic...The gun lobby are portrayed wrongly as the "lunatic fringe"...This country is full of Politically Correct Dickheads!
I hate to have to admit it, but my country sucks - big time!!!
We have an idiot for a prime minister who thinks that he has a "mandate from the people" for a GST purely because he got re-elected by our stupid preferential voting system, by people who thought they were voting for indepents, when in fact most of those votes were going to one of the two major political parties. This fool now has assisted in supporting this Draconian legislation in order to gain favour with some unreasonable moral crusader whose cause it was to try to force his view of moral standards on us, simply to garner his support for the GST - which backfired because Mr Morality told him in not so many words to shove the GST up his backside.
These are the same kneejerk idiots who took away all the rights of the people to bear arms, not just for self protection, but genuine sporting purposes too. I used to do a bit of hunting now and again, but these bastards took that away from me, now they are taking away my right to see the Internet through my own eyes, not just what they want me to see, I'm sorry - but that's not good enough!
They are real heroes when it comes to bullying the average man in the street, but look how spineless they are in the world stage, they fully intend to let 2 aussies fry in Belgrade, bloody aid workers for goodness sake, on some trumped up charge of spying for the US government. We might have a fairly weak defence budget - but I would spend a couple of bucks on a bomb or two to drop on those yugo pricks for this!
And on that subject, this is the same government who is doing nothing about the filthy kosovar refugee that tried to rape a bloody aussie girl who was doing volunteer work with the refugees *we* are sheltering, feeding and clothing. That sucks, something should be done, send that filthy prick back, the others may be ok, but that mongrel doesn't deserve to be here.
Australia sucks, I fully intend to get the hell out of here ASAP, time to start looking for that elusive greencard I suspect.
Your argument for chip ID really has little merit in the real world, Most rational people fail to see why an individual chip ID is necessary to ensure quality control? In mass produced low-end chips, surely a batch ID is sufficient.
And why does someone who voices a genuine concern over privacy have to be labelled as a "nut"? Just look at the recent example of the M$ GUID - despite protestations to the contrary, it did in fact play a part in the apprehension of the suspect in the Melissa virus fiasco.
As regards security, it's really up to the system administrator to police their own networks with regard to theft, if you forsee a risk, take some simple physical measures to prevent it, bolt your mission critical systems down, lock the cases, use common sense! Don't expect chip ID's to solve these issues, cars have VIN's and they still get stolen after all....
I agree, my buddies and I "discovered" The Matrix at our local cinema - which coincidentally started screening the movie a week before it had originally advertised it (read: Plenty of good seats, minimal dickheads!)
Being Aussies, and expecting yet another Aussie made letdown, we were never so glad to be proven wrong in our (cinematic) lives...

I can hear it now - Go go gadget Titties!
Dude, don't let 'em catch you referring to either as a "WM"! The politically correct term I have been advised is "Desktop Environment".
You'll be on Springer before you can say - Enlightenment!
Would you care to post the FULL details of your tremendously insightful "Scientific" study so we may all share the benefit of your great wisdom?
I have three letters for you my son:
F - P - U

I hate to rain on your parade pal, but the VIA MVP3 chipset is a piece of crap, I ought to know, I got lumbered with one!
It's implementation of both the PCI/AGP and IDE bus is woeful...just try using any PCI sound card with one setup for UDMA...Snap, Crackle and Pop!!!
Cyrix - cool, yeah right! You ever tried to install or play any games with one???
Yeah dude, I believe they got that sorted out a little while ago...All ahead full!
I suppose you're the kind of person who delights in dispelling the myths of Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy and The Easter Bunny to little kids.

Bah, Humbug.

I've had enough of these bold lightsabre colours, what about some lovely pastel shades??? A jedi's best friend is not the force, it's his interior decorator!
That's a bit nasty isn't it dude....
They're not hurting anyone, well no one out of exploding battery range anyway.
It could be worse, they could be buying *special* vibrating lightsabres from the "Tool Shed" on Oxford St, Darlinghurst.
Kinda kewl IMHO
