Open Source software exist because old software companies sold overpriced and under-performing software.
A C compiler in the past could cost you thousands of dollars.

Open source is water.. Closed source is Pepsi, wine and booze :)

That's like saying "oh how wonderful, tires developed and tested on a Ford.. works ON A FORD".

IE was top dog in 2001. All changes since then have been security fixes.
Safari/Konq, Mozilla and Opera are all easier to develop for (in 2005) if you develop for multiple platforms.

And another thing.. No other company produces more broken HTML than Microsoft.
Their websites, their tools.. .Net web forms.. Office.. IE "save as".. Documentation..

Downloaded Firefox and Thunderbird today. Firefox is awesome.
IE6 is now (almost) obsolete. Just like that.. Really.. I mean it. Ctrl mouseclick ! The web feels like 1999 again :)

But.. on my w2k installation Thunderbird 0.7 crashes Firefox 0.9.
And uninstalling Thunderbird will not fix the problem !

It's the old profile-screw-up issue with a twist.
Firefox (the standalone browser) gets borked by Thunderbird (the email client).
How ? They share data in the "c:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Application Data" folder (hidden by default in w2k) and they both put up a lot of registry keys. This data is not cleaned out by a standard uninstall.

I fixed Firefox by uinstalling Thunderbird/Firefox , then deleting the Thunderbird/Firefox data found in "Application Data" pluss the registry keys, rebooted and installed Firefox again.

But I can't use Thunderbird as it is now. A shame, since it felt great.
I guess this is a Firefox issue. But lean browsing is more important to me than lean email.

Wouldn't this idea result in the largest grass trimmer ever build ? The velocity at the outer edge must be huge. And the centrifugal force at the bottom would probably rip up a big chunk of paradise before any lifting device could ever be attached to it.

Hell, even the outer rings of Saturn are lagging.. and they weigh nada-squat..

Today I am going to sue Post-it for $521 million. Because when I was 0 years old and on my way back home from the hospital I accidentally drooled all over my birth certificate (hey I was 0, alright). This made it sticky on the back and later on my dad noticed how it had stuck to my vaccination card. And because of this he patented this "high-tech" "mission-critical" "behavior" (see section 34 dash A) with the US patent office.

    Ahh, screw good honest work.
    I'm off to Hawaii.
