    1) I actually went and found the site myself. There's no link in the story.

    2) I found that copy-pasting the rules from the site would be much more informative than anything I could write myself.

    3) This all started in Denmark. Although it has become quite famous throughout the rest of the world, I felt I had a bit of an in-depth knowledge of the concept, considering I am Danish.

Just to clear up a few things.

AFAIK it is possible to change a cards MAC address (this is used in redundancy servers, where, if a server goes down, a backup server takes over with the same MAC address.) but doesn't this also flip a "my-MAC-is-changed" bit somewhere?

Think I read about something like that...?

The funny part was, though, the one time it was posted right next to an ad for the Phillips CD-copier...

The record indutry in Denmark is quite strict. Last year, some poor 14 year-old was sued for well over $100k just for *linking* to mp3's from his web-site. I think he walked, though

Just a couple of months ago, the dorm I live in, and a bunch of others, were "bullied" into paying a bunch of money to the industry, because somebody had gone in and taken *screenshots* of shared directories under windows. ('scuse me, 1) give me an hour and the gimp, and I'll give you a screenshot of anything, 2) If I want to have a file 3934729 bytes long called "Madonna - Music.mp3", isn't that perfectly legal).
But we decided to settle, bacause we knew it was all too true (There were shitloads of MP3's) and there was no way in hell we could win a suit, much less pay what they asked in the first place.

You can feel that this whole thing is a first-timer for the record industry. They're gonna experience a major change in the way they do business, and they know it.

  8. the real question... on SmartCards, BSD and Linux? · · Score: 2

All right, I don't know very much about authentication under linux, but:

At my university we have a shitload of Sunray2's terminals. The have a smartcard reader, which is, as the person asks, used for authentication. This is the way it works: instead of logging in and out, you just throw in your smartcard. This is not the cool part, the cool part is, that, when you insert your card, your desktop comes up exactly like you left it. Programs and files open, window positions, the works.

So, getting the authentication part should be possible, but getting the "desktop popping up the ay you left it" is the tricky part, at least if you ask me.

or else I'm just drunk and babbling about stuff I don't get...?

No, but trained doctors do give morphine to people if they need it, and J. Random User can hire a certified backhoe operator to make a swimming pool in his back yard or whatever.
You don't have to earn it.

Just do like Jamie Zawinsky (guy that worked on the first netscape) did: go to your local army surplus store and buy an acre of camouflage netting to hang over you cubicle...

What I would probably do is this: You can get some garden tents (some people call them Tennesee tents, but that's probably not the technical term.) that consist of a roof (pointy in a pyramid fashion.) and four legs, about 7' high or so. The sides are open. They're probably 10' x 10' or so, and they're white, so some light would get through. A little sawing, and maybe that woud be your solution, provided that you cubicle fits the measurements.
