My favorite words to hear, right there at the end of the article...
"....Linux is more stable than WindowsNT"
Kind of apporpirate considering Microsoft's Chair-person's brain-dead assumption of the impact of Linux. If I was Bill Gates, I would feel genuinly insulted that a free piece of software is beating out my software that took years to develop under the hands of my programmers. I would be led to suicide. He doesn't even make a good computer geek. I bet MacOs runs his fancy little home network because his wife's vibrator kept screwing up the NT server and causing the lights to flash on and off and crashed Bill's computer while he was jacking off to gay porn. Just a few words. Have a good night everyone.
No kidding man. The dude is a total NT deadhead just following the instructions microsoft gave them. They did not follow an optimal Linux config in any way.
Just look at where Linux and Apache have made it to in the real world. The tests they conducted were so far fetched it is really hard to believe. There are alot more big companies out there that use apache and Netscape/Enterprise. IIS just can't handle the traffic that they can. Microsoft's Hotmail dosen't even use IIS because it handle the load of nearly 1 million users.
The only thing Microsoft has for them is that they are easy to install. That is what they are trying to capitalize on here, and it looks like its going to work very well even with what the linux news web sites will have to say. FUD all the way.
Microsoft the credit they deserve? You go to www.netcraft.com and see how many servers out there actually run Microsoft IIS. You will find far many more running Netscape/Enterprise and Apache. Microsoft's own famed Hotmail runs on unix! When they tried to move it from Unix to NT it CRASHED HORRIBLY.
NT can't handle the big loads. On smaller loads it is known to show more performance, but you start pounding that sucker and it goes to hell. Unix and Linux keep on chuggin.
Did you not see the emphasis that this report put on the lack of support for Linux? Did you see how they fine tuned the nics and the CPUs under NT and not on Linux? Microsoft is trying to cause FUD in the minds of everyone.
The only respect they deserve is that they have one hell of a marketing scheme. Oh yeah, Bill Gates is good at legally pirating software and calling it his own.
This could be pretty good, as long as Microsoft doesn't up the ante. With Unix and Linux penetrating the workstation market now Microsoft might make the windoze line incompatible with anything related to Linux and Unix. It is possible for them to change standards. I hope Unix and Linux can produce an alternative before micrsoft releases some tool of destruction such as the ever distant windows 2000.
With the PortalWars ensuing I wonder how long they will last before being gobbled up by AOL, Yahoo or maybe even Microsoft. I can see it now. MSNLU Microsuck Network for Linux Users
Yeah that is true, but Microsoft propaganda stated about a year back that they were discontinuing the 9X line and were merging into 2000. We wouldn't have to buy another 9x. Bill Gates can't get his gem(more like a rock)operating system WinNT to support Plug and Play and whatnot without it turning into a crappy OS like the Win 9X legacy. So, in the meantime he's going to try to make more money until the year 2003 or so when we finally see this Emerald city at the end of the yellow brick road. Too bad the ruler is just a face on top of an 8-bit two bit operating system. As long as there are new computer users out there who are ignorant of anything that has to do with a pc and just want to have their word proccessor, internet and solitaire, we are going to have Microsuck and Bill. Operators and hackers like the rest of us should be happy we have a choice in Linux, BEOS,etc. and enjoy our computers.

Good point on this. I meant it mainly as a joke because of the fact its "MS"nbc. What I said earlier was biased in it's own right because I don't have any proof that Microsuck meddles in the business of their shafting partner NBC. All I can do is rant and rave and say "Bill Gates Sucks". I don't want to talk about the good things of Windoze because there is enough mindless sheep out there singing its praises allready. How's that for biased? Maybe one day we can all get along ?:)
Let's here it for NT (Chirp, chirp) No, really...

Ok, this is great and all, but what happens one day when a well-written macro virus reverse engineers that big ass satellite and beams all of the internet porn to some life form out there? Intelligent or not, I'm sure they are going to have something to say back.
If you take a loaded gun with a label that says "Point in face and pull the trigger for a hell of a good time" and pass it around to a random group of people are you to blame for the morons who pull the trigger and blow their heads off? That guy was e-mailing a loaded gun (if it was him responsible for spreading it) and people very stupidly opened up stuff they had no idea was about. Is he to blame for everyone being so lax about their own security in the computer world? On top of that, I've seen entire mail networks brought down by one lone dumbass who hits reply all to a system e-mail that causes a crazy loop drawing in other dumbasses telling her to shut up and before long servers are crashing all over the network(MS-Mail 3.2 BTW). Freedom of information. He has every right to write a macro virus if he wants to. Who can prove that he did or didn't spread his melissa ho all over the internet? I look forward to seeing how this plays out in front of a jury. The poor sots are going to be confused to hell by the end, and probably turn into disgrunteled cyber-terrorists.

Sorry for the flaming earlier. I'm ready to go home and a garbage NT machine is keepin me at work. But hey, the PC is only as good as the operator.
