No wonder AMD is the epiphany of bad marketing. If that's the best their idea makers can do they need to just close the doors and make controller chips or something. Since they are chasing Intel they could just call their next generation Decafalon 2000.
Yeah, but isn't that what the press is supposed to do? Look at this website as part of the press(excuse me Slashdot if I am interpreting this wrong). They are exposing this side of humanity that is beginning to unfold. Do the newspapers disclose a scandal then tell us what to do about it? No, we as citizens take charge and put forth the solution(senators, congressman and the like carry this out for us). Many good suggestions and solutions have come forth from these two days of postings. The rest of the press out there is getting interested, and we are close to finding the answer. We have a lot to thank slashdot for here... Just like it says..."News for Nerds. Stuff That Matters" I hope this matters for most of us.
Yes, I read them. I don't agree with several of them, but the overall message shows more support for the kids instead of the witch hunting that this can explode into. Over half of the messages on that MSNBC post carried themes essentially saying "Look at the kids, the parents, the people. Video games, violent movies, the internet, etc. etc. etc. is not to blame here" That is what people need to realize. I played D&D as a kid. I played doom out the ass. I am a smart and productive person now(not because of the games, I'm not saying that), more so than the dumbass jocks that reigned in my school when I was there. That's what I want people to see...
Microsoft obviously does not practice what they preach. Just look at what their famed hotmail runs on -- netcraft.com speaks the truth! Microsoft is going to pay dearly in the end. Anyone with some sense has seen through this FUD already. Alot of people out there are in bed with Microsoft and take it's lies for gospel. They won't believe anything works but Microsoft and they are doomed for a hell working in help desks for eternity. Once the new study is run by Mindcraft with the full support of Linux users, Microsoft will be exposed for the fraud they are. Alot of the damage has been done already. Linux is still small and hopefully people realize that when they read Microsoft's news releases.
Every guy I know that I graduated with hasn't amounted to shit. I was picked on alot until the 11th grad or so. I wanted to hurt most of those people until I finally got out and realized that my brains were worth something. Most of those people will never accomplish what I have accomplished in the past two years since graduating.
There are parental voices speaking the same words. MSNBC has some letters posted on their site The politicians and lawmakers are headed in the wrong direction. Speak up! go to www.senatevote.com and send your opinion to your senator on how this should be handled.
Seeing this gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling. SGI puts out some kick ass boxes in the first place. Coupled with Linux there's nothing you couldn't do with those things. You could be running your web server and kicking someone's ass in quake while compiling your new program while cooking breakfast. Sounds nice:)
High school isn't CRAP! Nothing I did there has helped me now. I have seen so many oppressed by what school thinks is right and wrong. Sometimes I myself feel like going back and beating the hell out of the principal at my brother's high school just out of the stupid crap they do to nonconformists. The new youth of America are not sheep! I can't see why anyone would miss high school. College yeah, high school to hell with it.
Yeah, that's the way I've viewed this affair myself. The constant backlashing at Microsoft really isn't helping much. The IT guys I work with are literally in bed with Microsoft. They take what ever Microsoft says as gospel and their software as manna. Many people in IT groups just don't look at servers and software like we do. They want to keep buying the newest servers and the newest Microsoft OSs. It dosen't matter what you show them about Linux vs. NT benchmarks are whatnot. They take this one study, funded by MS and carried out by a reputable testing group, and say "look, I told you so".
In the end Microsoft is going to win in the majority of markets simply because you can't get the "big brother" feeling from open-source that most people seem to get from Microsoft. Linux seems on the right path for that. As long as we as developers and operators continue to support Linux and support the groups that are working to produce standards and support, the future looks pretty good.

Oh well, I mean Lucas. Lucas said that they were going to do that. I can see Star Wars fans now tracing my IP address and coming to kill me with lightsabers.
Maybe they'll come out with a miniature death star, with a real working laser. Of course, with it's small size you could only take out small cities, but hey who's complaining?
Sounds like something I'll avoid

Those friggen things don't make much sense in the first place. Yoda's new words of wisdom are going to be "Flurrrbbt Diirrrupt Force" "Force Iiippptt iidd oouuupptt" With the marketing drive that movies have nowadays there is no telling what whacked out toys we will be seeing once this movie comes out. Something interesting to chew on though... Spielberg has forbidden any store to sell anything related to the new movie before the opening day. Those who do will be forbidden to sell any Star Wars merchandise.... FOREVER
Not only did he mention Linux's stability as a reason to switch from Microsoft, he mentioned that many people switch for "moral reasons". I like Linux just because it is a change from one person being in control of what my computer looks like. That is a good enough reason to try Linux.
I'd like to find some transcripts of that speech. I'm sure both of them had some good stuff to say. I think I'm kinda tired of hearing Bill's "Windows Everywhere" saying though...
Get your head out of your ass and look at what I'm talking about.
I didn't say he does everything in the company. He acts like he is The Man when it comes to technology. Everytime he speaks he is talking about the future of computing or he is acting like his software is the "next big thing." He is trying to be some computer saint or something.
Bill is acting like he is the herald of new technology here. What is up with his gig? He didn't invent this technology, he only modified what I see on our Sun Sparcs. If what the guy said earlier about Xerox is true, he didn't introduce anything new at all!! I really would like to see what kind of precision you get out of that sucker when you send it across a wooden table. On his hardware, yeah, he's got some great stuff. On the other hand, I have accounts from people who installed MS joystick drivers on their pcs and their gamepads quit working! One of them broke down and bought a MS gamepad and it worked like a champ. I welcome some input on this.
Linus says we are gonna kick your ass. Bill acts like the computer god of everybody. When do the computer users get software that works? I don't care if Windows sucks, microsoft sucks, or any of that. I hate the idea of one person telling us what the future of the computer industry is. I believe computers are different from any other commodity in the world. No one person should regulate or control it.
I've heard of LCD panels mysteriously multiplying in the dark corners of IT offices. Maybe this is their natural mating call.
we are born with cameras up our ass

I can concur with that. Mice piss me off. Windows has made us dependent on it. Its pretty damn hard getting around in windows with just the keyboard.
Yeah, it looks good. Half of the hardcore geeks out there won't have it because you can't type with one hand.

It is a free country, for most of us. For those who don't conform to what society wants its not quite a free speech country.

That's pretty interesting stuff. Some good reasons behind the use of Linux too.
hehe, yeah. Microsoft isn't so vocal in their criticisms.
That's a scary prospect. I think it would work good only if they used alot of WINE.
What did the computers at comdex with Linux look like? Did they make a good showing?
Anyone see Win2000 there?

And this discussion does concern Bill Gates.
You know it man, you know it. I wonder how long that joker will last too.
