--- I really hope that the G400 can be used (when it's released) with the G200 drivers. That would be the final push for dumping my old V2 card. Low level drivers should be open sourced. Pronto! ---
I'm afraid the G200 and G400 rendering engines are sufficetnly different that they'll need seperate 3D driver code. 2D should be the same, or so I've read elsewhere.
--- Another slightly off topic question, why would someone choose a card that can render at > 100 frames per second if their monitor runs 60 or 70 Hz? ---
That's the Question You're Not Supposed To Ask! Ignore the man behind the curtain!
I've never understood it myself...
I'm looking forward to trying out the G200 GLX module on my G200 - But not at work, we're they're making me remove Linux because "It's a security risk". Gaaaargh.
I'm afriad it doesn't. I downloaded it from my local mirror (took around 11 seconds - Bwhahaha!) and it claimed it couldn't find glibc 2.0.7 or higher. It comes with a lump of glibc of it's own you can shell up and use, but it's not pretty.
I don't think SO are completely insane, and I'm sure they'll release a glibc 2.1 version, but it would have been nice to get this nailed for 5.1 once and for all. libc funkyness is what keeps me from giving it a good burl.
1/ As root, you can run "setup" which will bring up a menu for different system configurators (Mouse, XF86, etc). Or you can just run XConfigurator by itself - this does just the same thing as the install process. That'll give you the chance to fiddle with things.
2/ I work for an ISP, which explains my hatred of internal modems. Wretched things. Throw it away! (Helpful, I know)
3/ This is a point - in RH, you really need to set up your PPP via LinuxConf, and then use the dialler. Needs improvement.
4/ Were you using LinuxConf, or the rather stale old control panel?
5 and 6/ I think theirs still too much wyrdness happening with the gen_scsi stuff - check out LWN for details. A valid point however.
7/ use mkinitrd as normal. There's also a kernel-updaters mini-howto on the RH site.

GNOME has made/gigantic/ strides in usability and stability since.30 or.99 or even 1.02. It just keeps getting better - certainly, it's no more or less stable than KDE. The KDE apps appear on the GNOME menu as well, and I use them alongside the GNOME apps with/no/ problems.
Seriously, I'd be extremely surprised indeed if there were any significant UI probs with RH 6.0 when it appears.

Please note that this mirror is not available to addresses outside Australia - it's intended for use by Australian Academic Research network members.
I've upgraded a few systems from 5.x to 6.0 now, with no major dramas.

A 40k kernel? Wow! :)
/boot.
If you compiled using make zimage, the kernel will be too big. Use make install - it uses bzip for compression and intsalls it neatly into
I'm running stock RH 6.0 and it works fine for me.

Um. Ever heard of RawHide? Starbuck? Have you been living under some kind of silicon based material?

I've been using RawHide 1.3.4 for a while now, with only one problem - NFS. That's more of a kernel thing at the moment though.

Erm. They do. Have you actually looked at StarBuck at all? Hell, it's even in the default Window Manager bit of the Gnome Control Centre.
That looks awfully like VMS error/system logs to me. So, VMS lives on, in a fashion ...
