You seem to be really fast in judging people, like many others. I'm sorry if you find this subject boring, but it's actually an incredible one, and I for one am extremely interested by such subjects.
Also, please take a moment to remove such stereotypes as underground = bad people. It is stupid. The "underground world" is composed of poeple who don't live exactly by society's rules, not necessarily against the law!!!!
I haven't tried CodeWarrior yet, but I suppose the reason they released it with support only for Red Hat is because the installation must be in RPMs, and not tar.gz or.deb, or whatever other format...
You can still install it on other distributions, but RPMs on some distributions are sometimes tricky (i.e. don't work all the time unless you set it up perfectly). I had this problem once with an old version of Debian!
I don't see why this is an Imac competitor... It may have the similar features and a cool look, but cool looking boxes have been available for a while from many sources.
Besides, of course it outpowers the iMac...it comes out months after!!!
Anyways, I know all OSes aren't necessarily good, but at least most of them have the concept of not bugging your computer intentionally. MacOS has some good sides (nice sounds, for example!!), and I've never tried Plan 9. I have no idea if it's good or bad, it's just that Dennis Ritchie once said that Linux was bad and that NT was more stable...
I believe this announcement is a very big deal. After all, like said in some other comments, Microsoft have partially ruined Java with J++ and are probably intending to do the same thing with Perl. Implementing a few calls like fork() is ok, because NT is so weak because of the lack of this call, but I don't really think Microsoft should get its nose in there.
The main problem here is not about Red Hat being for the Open Source issue or something else like that. It's also about the price. Have you seen the price for the latest 6.0 distro ?? In Canada, it's 115$, which is like more than twice the original price. People who don't know linux and will hear about Red Hat (obviously) will probably think the community is full of bull-shit when we say Linux is free, and these people don't know about FTP downloads and other distributions...
BBS still rule. Why talk about the good old days when you can still make one. I know I did. It's completely different from the Internet, therefore I think BBS's will always have a warm place in our hearts.
Console rules!!!!
BTW, this site is so slow Eta Carinae will have time to explode by the time it's finished downloading!!
It seems you don't really understand what I'm saying. I am in no way condoning what Kevin Mitnick did. I am just saying that whatever you do, you deserve a fair trial. It's one of the bases of democracy, but it seems democracy has died when people like you talk like that.
So if I understand well, if you got a speeding ticket and get arrested a second time for speeding, I should consider you a total moron and we should throw you in jail without a chance to plead your cause!!!!
What Kevin Mitnick did was stupid. He clearly should have stopped after the first time. But this case is not about Kevin Mitnick. It's about everybody's rights to a fair trial and if you can't understand that, maybe you should go work for the NSA. They like people who think like you!!!
I think you're very fast on judging this article. Kevin Mitnick was not a cracker. Crackers destroy things and wreak havoc on computers they penetrate. Kevin did not do that. He might not have acted the best way by getting some proprietary source code such as Solaris, but he nonetheless deserves a fair trial, something he hasn't gotten yet (in 4 years!).
Maybe you want to call him a cracker, but don't forget his case is making history for everyone working with computers. Taking such basic rights from a human being is the first step towards totalitarism, and I suggest you protest this kind of behavior before it affects you directly (and it can, just read the Hacker Crackdown)!!!
OK, since everybody seems lost in a tangle of ideas, here's how it really works :
When you start VMWare, it reboots your machine without you even noticing anything and it loads Windows as the OS. It's as simple as that. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is how they keep a shot of X on the screen while the computer is rebooting... I'll figure that out by tomorrow!!!

Go easy on them, you can't read the full report so some things might have been exagerated by WSJ!
Actually, it's a 128-bit system, and porting software to it is very simple...
So the software should come out very fast!!
Mid-2000 is like so late to bring a 64-bit architecture to the market!!!
Alpha all the way, baby!!

Code free or die!
I think you made a mistake in your code!!
It should be more like that!
#define unstable 1
const int nt = unstable;
if(nt) { switchTo.linux(); }
