Suppose the phones go down. This happened in an area where I was living when someone cut the sole long distance line in the region. Hospitals could not communicate, and family members could not check on the status of their loved ones. Hams like me carried the messages.

Emergency to a ham doesn't necessarily mean disaster, it means any situation where the normal lines of communications are disrupted.

Examples of times where Hams are used for communications even when the phone lines are up, and the power is up:

    - Coordinating evacuations (fire, etc). You coordinate the evacuation of thousands with the phone system or the internet... let me know how it goes.

    - Car accident in the middle of nowhere.

    - Search and rescue efforts. Clicking and talking on a multi-access channel works a lot better than cell phones.

There are also communities where it is a primary method of communication. There is a place called Three Rivers here in Oregon, near Lake Billy Chinook. They do not have power, they do not have phones, matter of fact, they don't have any public utilities. There's several hundred homes, each with solar and wind power, and wells or trucked water. Some cellphone coverage is available, but not much. *Everyone* has a CB or ham radio.

Bullshit. I've got a Webster's Dictionary sitting in front of me that was published before the Clinton administration.

sexual relations, 1. sexual intercourse; coitus. 2. any sexual activity between individuals. [1945-50]

You can't tell me that oral sex does not fall into number 2 there. Hence the word "sex" in the phrase.

So, at least in that statement, he wasn't lying. Splitting hairs yes, lying no.

Yes, he was, per my point above.

But even if he did lie under oath, its not purgery if its not relevant. As his getting a BJ from Monica didn't have anything to do with the supposed harrasment against Paula Jones, it wasn't relevant.

Go watch a a few trials sometime. It was absolutely relevent. It establishes a pattern of behavior where a powerful person is requesting (and sometimes getting) sexual favors from someone who is a lot less powerful.

We just had a case locally where a cop was getting BJs in return for not issuing tickets. (Again, power over powerless). Turns out there were over a dozen different women before one finally turned him in. I see very little difference between that and what Clinton was doing. It is not ethical to solicit sexual anything from someone in that relative position from you. Period.

How many women did Clinton really take advantage of using his positions as Governor and then President?

First of all, there are legitimate uses of ball bearings. It's pretty obvious what they're used for. You choose a very poor example to make your point.

There are also legitimate uses for universal garage door openers. Or do you deny this?

Also, there is no monopoly on garage door openers or garage door openers or their remotes. If a company wishes to stop third-party remotes from opening their garage door openers, then that is there right.

It is their right, yes, but not by applying law that deals with copyrights to something that should be covered by trade secret or patent.

Or, please explain how some copyrighted material was accessed? (Even then, see below for the interoperability exemption.)

If they want to stop third party remotes from being made, perhaps they should make their signalling system a bit more secure?

It also wouldn't take too much effort to build an opener if you really wanted to break into someone's garage. Someone parked on the street with a frequency counter can get the frequency for that garage door opener, and then it is a simple matter of recording the signal and reproducing it.

You aren't going to stop it by making legitimate devices illegal.

Should universal TV/stereo/etc. remotes be made illegal? Using your logic, they should. Someone could turn my TV on by pointing one through a window and cost me money when the power bill comes.

Also, there is no interoperability at issue here. That is simply not correct. I think you misunderstand what it means. The classic example of this is Compaq reverse engineering IBM's BIOS for the purpose of allowing software that runs on IBM machines to run on Compaq machines. Interoperability does not apply here, however. The two situations are not similar at all.

Sure there is. It is legal to make devices that are interoperable with other manufacturer's products. The DMCA even specifically allows it with regard to reverse-engineering copy control methods to provide interoperability. Though the DMCA still shouldn't apply here.
