  1. Re:I'm dumpimg my Hotmail accounts on The Significance of the Hotmail Crack · · Score: 1

have fun! it's impossible to have your hotmail account removed :-) The only way to get rid of it is to have it time out, but then how would you stop people mailing it? The moment you go back to read the mail you have another 6 months to wait. One word - "microsoft". Anyone thought of writing a "hotpopper" program so we can download mail from hotmail without having to read the stupid adverts?

If all it takes is a "script kiddie" to break into .gov websites then perhaps the government should employ more script kiddies to sort their security out. The guy is a cracker. Also a hacker.

So.. were YOU involved in CS through campaigns like this, or did you just come of your own accord? I spent most of my childhood playing with computers because I was utterly fascinated with them. My sister didn't. Now she's done a conversion course to computer science "because it's where the money is". She hates it. There is no "proof" to make here, but anal comments like yours are nothing more than sexist fluff. Targetting particular genders is something that pornographers do.

  5. Re:linux? java?; So is C++ on Amiga Technology Brief · · Score: 1

C++ is great if people would actually read Stroustrup (okay, so it's not for the faint hearted and you need to have been using the language for 2 years to understand a freakin word of it) but there were particular goals of the language that only about 2% of its practicing population use - making messy preprocessors unncessesary and obsolete, for instance. Java goes one step further by throwing confusing and proven bad pitfalls away, including pointers, templates, and broken control struct expressions.

Java has been proven to have faster team development cycles for this very reason, and as for speed - it's only slow 'cos the VM is being emulated.. under the Transmeta or whatever chip they're hinting at it should be no slower, if not QUICKER (due to more efficient garbage collection) than C++.

And fine.. if you want to use C, then use it. You do after all have a choice with this thing..

Hi, can somebody show me the way to "Candyland" please. I'd like to introduce myself as a "die hard libertarian" and see a valid attempt to fix the imbalance of debt in the world (ie, that created by monopoly).

I send about 20 gateway crossing emails a day. That's 7000 a year, which is erm.. 70c. oh, the pain.

  7. BOBIX!! on "GNU/Linux" vs. "Linux" · · Score: 1

Ok, you could call it GNU/Linux, you could call it (as the editorial suggests) X/Linux. There's also the argument about how to pronounce Linux. Lets kill two birds with one stone here. We once had the following conversation at work :

"LIEnux? you said LIEnux!!! you heretic!"
"I slipped. bad habit. sorry i can't help it"
"this is bad for reputation sort it out."
"well if Linus didn't have such a stupid name we wouldn't be in this predicament"
    "so what are you suggesting?"
"well, we'd hardly have this problem if he was called 'Bob Torvolds' now, would we?"
    "what, 'BOBIX'???"
    "why not?"
    "you're right. I like it"

and so the deed was done. lilo.conf's were changed officewide.

Bobix - the OS made by Richard Stallman and some smug Finnish businessman amongst others.
