  1. The Truth Is Dangerous on UK Gov't Plans To Censor "Extremist" Websites Via Orders To ISPs · · Score: 3, Insightful

It is true that exposure to truth tends to radicalize people. I say again that no government wants the population to have freedom in communications. People who think a lot can be difficult to control. Secrecy is a form of conspiracy in and of itself. Hiding truth tends to maintain social customs. And people can be manipulated simply by hiding the truth. Right now we have a lot of issues with terrorists from the Arab nations. Apparently they have some dream of bring back the caliphate. But how many of these Arabs are even aware that the caliphate was Ottoman and that Arabs were not particularly respected nor valued by the Turks who controlled the caliphate. For an Arab to dream of the joy of living under the caliphate is roughly equivalent to a German Jew dreaming of the good old days when the Reich was in total control of Germany.

  2. Get Radicalized on NSA Planned To Discredit Radicals Based On Web-Browsing Habits · · Score: 1

I almost can't hold back when I hear government people talking about individuals getting radicalized. They make it sound like some sort of ugly disease that one catches by talking to people who are radical. Exactly how does one become radicalized? The government takes it that any person who disagrees is a radical. It is as if we are supposed to recognize and respect many social and political positions. It does not dawn of them that people can study and read and that given information some citizens will be less friendly towards government. There are real problems that cause suffering and it i to be expected that some people speak up or act out due to their pain and stress. The nonsense of mass slaughter of school children by people who go over the edge is like a canary down in a coal mine. When we see these incidents we need to get pressure off of people in the areas in which the crimes took place.

  3. Plan Your Action on The Best Way To Blow the Whistle · · Score: 2

Before you blow the whistle you need to contact a quality lawyer and be advised. You may need to file a report with an outside agency in order to get whistle blower protection in the courts. If you work with any kind of in house security or internal affairs you may gain extra protection if you are a paid informant. That pay could be one penny or one dollar. Also the timing of blowing the whistle could be vital. For example getting a review and a raise and blowing the whistle just afterward make sit harder to claim your work is defective. But back to the original point first get a lawyer. The reality is that you will probably be fired. Regardless of what the law says you probably can never return to work. But if done correctly you may earn a lot more money by blowing the whistle than you could ever hope to earn from work. So many companies are involved in illegal activities that whistle blowing could be an entire career for the right person.

  4. Try Band on Art Makes Students Smart · · Score: 1

A strong concert and marching band program reaching down into the elementary grades will uplift students quite measurably. This has been known for many decades yet politicians have ruined many school band programs. My high school band program produced numerous band directors and life long musicians of professional caliber and our band members did well in college as well. Frankly every parent needs to make certain that their kid plays in the school band and fight like crazy to get proper funding for the band.

  5. Use This on Why Scott Adams Wished Death On His Dad · · Score: 1

The method doctors use is to withhold all treatment. Food and water are probably being supplied by tubes at this point. When a patient is this far gone it takes very little in the way of lack of water or food to quickly put them down. Also make certain that all meds are stopped as well as oxygen. In a better world there would be no limit on the pain killers used for the final days. Simply giving enough meds to ward off all pain would tend to hasten death. And I also see no real issue with giving a shot that would send a patient onward. The rather mystical, supposed combination of morals and beliefs that the terminally ill face are a thin disguise for money issues. That last month or two of life pretty much support the medical industry, nursing homes and more.

How much police response has been required over complaints of people scurrying about trying to steal some buds? Have there been any murders?

Otherwise any time I left the truck I would have had to carry valuables as a broken window is all a crook would need to steal my stuff. I do wonder just how the courts can accurately judge whether a person has intentions of concealing dope or not.

The current crop of terrorists certainly have been dangerous enough. But if the mood of nations is such that terror will be the popular mode of rebellion we need to take unusual measures to survive. So far I suggest letting the US spy internally without much restraint at all. But we should put in place laws that compensate victims for damages more stringently when they are damaged by error from authorities. For example people who are imprisoned and found to be innocent should be heavily compensated as should people who have lost jobs or been under threat of arrest without cause. We also need to imprison cops more often when they go beyond what is allowed and harm people without good reason, Spaying people in handcuffs or use of stun guns repeatedly for no reason needs to be halted.

  9. Almost All on Ask Slashdot: How Would You Stop a Debt Collection Scam From Targeting You? · · Score: 5, Interesting

Debt collectors other than the original lender all tend to be committing fraud one way or another. Here is one answer that has worked for me. You get a nonsense collection call. Listen to the pitch and then ask that since you were polite enough to listen would they listen to you for a moment. If they say yes you have set the hook. Tell them you would bet money that they were recently hired. The chances are that that is quite true. Collection companies try to claim to pay on a percentage of recovered money. Then ask the collector if the people sitting around him seem to be recent hires as well. Next tell him it is a scam to get him to work for free. The way it works is the guy will get two weeks in and even if checks have come in they company will not admit it or post it. After two weeks they will fire him for lack of collections and he will never receive a penny for his efforts. I have done this and the collector instantly confronted the phone room manager and loudly quit on the spot. The manager was the owner and he called back ten minutes later and said I could not do that as advertising for new help was expensive. I told him i would do it every time a got a call. companies sell these debts for a couple bucks each so the initial lender can charge them off against taxes, The supposed collector owns the debt but he may only collect on one in 500 debts he purchases. So if you are costing him money by causing his employees to quit he will take your suggestion to rip up the debt paper absolving you of the debt. Get them any way you can.

If a person is born a psychopath and denied a good early environment he may be incapable of self control or the formation of intent and therefore not guilty. On the other side if a great deal of evidence is less than 100% of proof of guilt then the presence of a psychopathic brain might be the tipping point indicating guilt. I'm not certain that psychopaths and sociopaths account for all serial murderers but is should be studied.

  19. Worst Law Of All on Arizona Approves Grid-Connection Fees For Solar Rooftops · · Score: 3, Insightful

This law is the equivalent of telling your wife you love her while beating her half to death. Society should love people who conserve energy and our government has begged the public to conserve for decades. So laws that encourage people to use solar power are all that we should have. This new tax will hold back solar installations which is exactly what the government claims it does not want. The same is true for electric cars. Electric cars avoid a gas tax so some states now have a special fee for allowing people to use electric cars under the guise that they are not paying their fair share of road taxes. In the case of a fee applied to solar powered homes the tiny fee first required means little. But it puts people on notice that that fee will grow and grow over time. The simple truth is that as more and more homes go solar the grid, in effect, gets smaller and smaller but still has the same maintenance fees which must be passed on to the people who use the grid. Therefore we should expect electric prices to rise for those that do not install solar which will encourage more and more people to go solar. At some point the power gri will not be needed at all for homes and industry will be the only consumer.

Hacking in itself should not be a crime. I would not put a person in prison for hacking unless theft was also involved such as bank accounts or credit card charges. But there are other nonviolent crimes for which prison may be good answer. for example using crack or heroin automatically is seen as advocating drug use by vulnerable people. One crack addict can easily create a dozen more before he dies or is stuck in rehab or prison or a mental facility. There are plenty of people that will break laws if they feel the punishment probably will either not happen or be severe in nature. It is rather like the IRS tactics. They catch some jerk cheating a little bit on his taxes and they drop him into a painful hole so bad that he wails and screams to all the people he knows just how brutal the IRS can be. The people that watch him being ruined by the IRS tend to report their incomes more truthfully. So in a way dropping a one time offender deep into the prison system for a burglary, stealing a car or bicycle or using illegal drugs is not wrong at all. That very 16 year old who gets popped one time for possession of crack and will be seen by the whole town in a pink, convict, jump suit, picking up trash by the road ways for the rest of his life can prevent more drug use than a huge rehab facility.
