He really can't get back without shutting down his browser?
Netscape has a nifty little "Go" pulldown menu right at the top. Just select a site prior to the offending one and click. Does Internet Exploder also have this feature? I wouldn't know, never used it.
His tired old "Linux is like Unix, which is 30 years old, so it must be obsolete" argument sounds like something from M$ marketing. Modern Unix/Linux hardly resembles Unix from the 1970's. (On the other hand, just how many different ways can you do a task switch?)
As for the MacOS, isn't he confusing GUI with OS technology?
My poorly stated point in the previous message was that maybe MacOS X really is a breakthrough.
I just wish I could run down to the local paint store, buy some Colonial Pewter paintbots, with some dark grey trimbots, set them loose, and watch my house change color.
MacOS X was the last breakthrough OS? What does that say about *BSD?
At first I thought this was a fake, but I went there anyway. Scary stuff, especially that fact that they completely ignore Linux/BDS/other free software. They just assume that if you buy a "naked PC" you will install a pirated copy of WinBlows.
In case you hadn't noticed, that's one of the biggest complaints about Microsoft. They force resellers to sign agreements that they will charge for a copy of Windows whether or not it is installed. So if you buy a box with Linux installed, you are still paying for a copy of MS Windows. The US DOJ sued MS a few years ago for this, and got them to sign an agreement that they would stop doing it. But I still see ads for PCs with "free MS Windows". Yeah, right.
What would tell the family of a young woman who was killed a few years ago by a convicted murderer who was released from prison, even after he murdered two more people while he was in prison? He didn't like the grade he received on a paper he wrote in a prison English class, so he killed the teacher. If I recall correctly, he also murdered his own father. So he was released, only to kill again. These are the kind of people I was referring to.
Seem like it could be automated. A simple PERL script would probably do it. Filter out the fluff words, then try to match long words and phrases common to both stories. Anything above a certain threshold would bring it to a human's attention for further review.
Er, we were talking about transporting a landing module to a remote area of Canada. Unless you've heard something about a pending US invasion of Canadia over the 4th of July holiday. That would be a good cover, they'll think it just a bunch of stupid Americans setting off fireworks.
Ummm, I guess there would be a physical upper limit. I don't happen to know exactly where it is, but the radio part of the spectrum does have specific boundaries.
Most new cell phones now have an optional headset, so you don't have to worry about getting a brain tumor from holding a small but powerful radio transmitter next to your head. But most people will probably keep the phone in their lap while using the headset.
It would really be news if someone ported Palm OS (or Linux) to a Gameboy. If someone ported FreeBSD, would it be called Flameboy?
Who wants a win32 user to admin a linux system?
Ya, you could always run it under WINE on a Linux box.

"The death penalty is the best deterrent to violent crime."
The murder rates in Texas and Florida pretty much kill that one.
Well, with each execution, at least one person is deterred from committing any more violent acts.
This does explain all that aol.com traffic.
It also explains all the first-posters.
Of course a utility like this needs a catchy name. How about slashbot?
I don't know of anything magic about 20, but everyone knows, the answer is 42.

Interesting typo.

" Megabit service at USWest is something like 256kbps. Maybe they mean over the lifetime of the service you will send/receive megabits.

Really? There's a possibility of life in Canada? (double rim shot)
"being flown up to the crater by the US Marine corp"
Let's hope the Marines can do a better job at landing the thing than NASA.
I thought the AMD Moron chip was somehow a combination of "More" and "Athlon". Looks like it is really Mobile + Duron.

Well, I heard AMD was going to name their new chip the Moron (More + Athlon).
Peon. See Message #68 in the previous story "PC Expo".
The 4th generation Pentium, code name "Willamette", will be be officially named the Peon.
