Plus the DS has a lot of KILLER games that just didn't get high ratings.
For instance: Viewtiful Joe, Electroplankton, True Swing Golf (Pretty good game), Pac-Pix, Super Princess Peach, etc..
A lot of the games ranked in the 8.0 range are basically cult classics and hard to come by like Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Trauma Center: Under the Knife.
Also look at the high ranked PSP games. They're mostly ports of existing games or stuff like sports games.
A lot of them aren't very good on the go either. Most of them aren't made for a few mins of play here and there.
There are very few good original games. The DS has a lot of good original games AND games from existing franchises like Mario Kart and NSMB.
Not only that CD's are way the hell better than Tapes. The difference is much larger than DVD -> Blu-Ray/HD-DVD.
Go back to listening to tapes for a while and you'll see. Want to listen to a song in the middle of the tape? Bah. Fast forward, hit play every few seconds to see where you're at, fast forward some more, oops passed it, rewind... ehh.. screw that.
Plus the quality of the sound, the amount of space they holds, the fact that they don't get warn out from over use (unless you scratch the hell out of it)...
Especially since I mostly watch HD for Sports, not movies. DVD quality movies still look quite nice on my TV... Good enough that I don't have any reason to blow $1,000 on a new format that has almost no movies. It's just not a big enough jump over DVD for me to care. I've got better things to spend that kind of money on.
Sure a hardcore gamer will spend $400 for a video card but that doesn't mean they would spend $800+ for a console so that means the consoles get sold at a loss.. not a good thing for profit. also they want bleeding edge games which cost a lot to develop and unless it's a proven franchise it's a risk (develop super expensive game for super picky hardcore gamers who end up not liking your game for some odd reason etc..)
Probably worse off if you want to think about it that way. Nintendo doesn't sell their consoles at a loss (what do you think the loss will be on the PS3? a few hundred?) plus their games don't cost nearly as much to make and they have a pretty big dedicated fan base.
I'd wait. I didn't want a white one either but I'm quite happy with it. Thing is if you import you won't have a warranty and there is a small percentage of them having problems with the hinge cracking. (Nintendo claims it's only.02% of them but there have been quite a few reports (with pictures) of the problem so I dunno)
Why is it that they have a CD player and DVD player AND a PS2 yet when they get a PS3 they will be able to get rid of all that stuff?
I doubt many people have blu-ray thus far and if they did why would they get rid of that player the probably just spent $1,000 and replace it with a PS3?
Is 60 gigs really enough for TiVo? My 300 gig DVR is just enough to keep me happy.
Basically the only thing the PS3 gives them is blu-ray and a lot less room since the PS3 is so freaking huge (bigger than the orig. xbox and heavier too).
I don't know about the rest of this but I do remember the Nintendo guys saying that people would want their controller to be THEIR controller so this might be exactly what that memory is used for. A profile of some sorts.
This *is* something Nintendo is shooting for (the personalized controllers)
Hmm well I almost never travel. There is zero reason for me to own a portable for the most part, but the DS is by far the system I play the most and we have 2 xbox 360's, fast computers, a modded to hell xbox with just about everything you can think of on it, gamecube with tons of games, ps2's with tons of games etc etc etc.. you get the picture. The DS is fun as hell so get it if you're thinking about it.. who cares if you don't travel? shit I play mine in bed before I go to sleep every night.
PSP might be selling well but it means next to nothing because the games aren't selling for shit. They haven't sold anywhere near as well as DS games in the US and NOTHING has sold better than DS games in Japan this year (and most of last year).
Also the light doesn't "seem" like a good update. It IS a great update. Plus it's cheap! They didn't raise the price at all. It still costs $130.
I got mine and I love it. Plus I have a spare DS laying around for friends or roommates to use or play multiplayer games with. It's pretty sweet.
The only thing I like about flash these days is videos embeded in webpages (as opposed to embedding a QuickTime, Real, Windows Media file)
and why the hell won't they release the latest version of Flash for Linux? I'm sick of crapy Flash 7 that doesn't work.
Oh and I forgot to mention all of the upcoming games for the DS compared to the PSP.
Zelda, Children of Mana, FFIII (never released in the US before, and completely re-designed with new graphics) and TONS of others.
The DS might be behind in higly ranked games now, but it won't be for long.

Here's a better link which also contains the top 10 games for that week as well as the previous weeks hardware sales:

Too many.
USPS sucks. So does UPS.

5 mins? Perfect! That's just enough time to fly to the store. Now if only it could fly for 10 mins.
Whose thinking ISN'T limited by what they know?
Not to disagree with your point.
$2,500 for *A* movie isn't extortion?

I'd like to see the numbers of both sold AND shipped psp's. (why compare Sonys shipped numbers to Nintendos sold numbers?)
psp has been out selling the ds in America but psp games haven't done nearly as well.
(maybe locoroco and tekken will help change that. doesn't look like it though)

Can we get a time line for these events? ;) I think you said playstation when you meant sega?
That's what I was going to say. Birds have been around for a long damn time so I don't know what that other guy is talking about.
Snakes generally don't hiss? Sure not when everything is fine, but when they're alarmed or scared they do and that's when you want to stay away.
So maybe they eventually learned that hissing snake = bad news?
It makes more sense to me than babies hearing that noise in the womb. Can you remember what it was like in your mothers womb?
Shhh to calm a baby? I do agree with. Any soothing sound.
I mean your not our.
How about using the USB wifi adapter so that your DS uses the internet connection off our PC.

Actually I believe summer is bad for sales. They don't release a lot of new games around that time they save them for Nov - Dec. like you said before.
People go on vacations and kids might play outside more during the summer? or just because it's better to wait a few months for the holidays? I dunno.

I just can't wait to see what happens when FFIII (looks freaking awesome!), Zelda and the new Megaman come out.
