Did you bother to read the article? I'm assuming not...
In this case, after months of games and just flat-out refusal to follow the court's orders...
6/28 - Judge issues pen register order
7/9 - Judge issues summons to Lavabit to show cause for non-compliance with said order
7/10 - Government/Lavabit conference call where government demands SSL keys
7/16 - Government obtains search warrant for data encryption keys and SSL keys
8/7 - Levison ultimately complies with court
That's 40 days, not "months". And 40 days is probably par for the course for those challenging government surveillance orders.
Since pen register orders don't require probable cause, I applaud Levison's actions to protect his customers. After all, they used his service specifically for it's privacy.
IIRC, MtGox lost (claimed were stolen) ~850K BTC. The 200K BTC they found in the "old wallet" reduced the missing BTC to 650K - which was not included in the $64M debt figure.
There many international laws prohibiting spying. The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations certainly applies - specifically, Articles 22, 24, and 27.
Sorry, my dear AC. It doesn't really matter whether you want to quibble about whether Emanuel's public statement amounted to efforts/actions/etc.
I'm not quibbling with you, I'm trolling you. The fact that you can't resist replying shows you're desperately trying to salvage an untenable position.
I grant your point that the alderman took the action, and Emanual made a public statement in support of it. So what?
First of all, that isn't my point. Second, the "so what" is this: If you said "Alderman Joe Moreno" instead of "Rahm Emmanuel" in your post, you would have been correct. But you didn't say that, and therefore you were wrong. You then smugly asked/. to tell you which part of you post wasn't true. Well, you obviously can't handle the truth - or more accurately - you're one of those unfortunate people who can't admit when they're wrong. Too bad for you, my dear.
Well, if you'd bothered to read TFA, you would have known that there was a merge last night that specifically benefits the resume process. While it may or may not help you specifically, it is definitely NOT old news. BTW, your "new and better site" makes no mention of this at the time of this writing.
There's a reason why RAID controllers tend to wake up drives sequentially.
And the RAID controllers will continue to do just that. All this change does is allow the kernel to continue resuming without having to wait for the device to report that it's ready. Any commands sent to the device in the meantime are queued.
Your mistake is thinking US politics is in some way special and you need to look at this as if the same thing was done in a corrupt banana republic.
LOL. Based on what I wrote, you must have used some pretty tortured reasoning to reach that conclusion. In any case, I can't see how using the politics of a third world country as an analogue for US politics would be useful except under the most extreme circumstances. But to each his own, I guess.
The real question is, "what does she bring to the table" as a member of the Board? Does her tenure as a faculty member in the Stanford School of Business matter? What about her time as the director of the Stanford Global Center for Business and the Economy?
Ms. Rice is also a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, a professor of Political Science, and the Faculty Director at the SGCBE.
Outside of Stanford, Rice is the founding partner of RiceHadleyGates. She also serves on the boards of C3 (energy software), Makena Capital, Commonwealth Club, Aspen Institute, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Rice is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Ms. Rice is also an author, a contributor to CBS, and makes frequent appearances on the lecture circuit.
I have a lot of respect for Ms. Rice, but when you look at all the organizations and activities she's involved with, I really *do* wonder what value she would bring to the board of Dropbox. Rice seems to be spread pretty thin already.
I suspect Dropbox put her on their board for visibility/star power as much as anything.
93 Harvard faculty call
For 93 faculty to steer
The investments that aren't sound
Cuz they take stuff from the ground
93 Harvard faculty that don't know shit about about how everything in our economy has a huge oil component and divestiture of petro stocks is a stupid idea ta da.
While flattering you certainly don't have to do that, nor would I want you to. I'm not about that. Odd how this stuff has been moderated. I see where some of my comments were moderated flamebait, then as high as a +3 for insightful. Same comment. Makes me wonder. I often don't even use all the points I get.
Strange, I'm not seeing any moderation at all. Weird. But yeah, the mod system here could use a bit of work in order to curb abuses. I've had posts that are weeks old moderated down. Petty people holding grudges? Oh well.
3 ring circus called the Obama administration (Ring 1 we have our Imperial President. Ring 2 we have Eric Holder. Ring 3 we have Harry Reid..(play entry of the gladiators)).
When you're insulting, expect something in return.
And when you insult someone by saying they didn't understand what they read, then in the very next sentence demonstrate that it was your own damn self that didn't understand...what do you expect then?
Sonny, eh? How funny. There's a very good chance I have hemorrhoids older than you are. There is nothing imagined about the no nuke administration. Just check out the hearing tomorrow. I have a feeling it will enlighten you. If not, you'll get another chance soon as you realize the folly of your (they don't want to shut down domestic energy, at least that is what I think you are saying) position. Less than two years.
If you're anywhere close to my age then you should've realized long ago that nomination hearings are nothing more than political theater. There won't be any new or relevant information coming out of the Senate tomorrow.
Look, I'm *very* pro-nuclear. As such, I recognize that there are many who have irrational fears of nuclear energy and will work against it. A few individual politicians may occasionally spout off "I'm tough on nuclear energy companies" bullshit to pander to certain constituencies, but the fact is most are eager to develop nuclear power. Even President Obama, who I am no fan of, wanted to triple subsidies for nuclear energy as part of his push to lower carbon emissions. And having worked at both Entergy and Exelon, I've seen enough from the inside to know that the major government regulatory bodies are *not* trying to destroy the nuclear energy industry. It's simply not happening.
But tell you what, I'll set a reminder in my calendar for Wed, Sep 23, 2015. If any of the 24 nuclear plants affected by the revised quake estimates has been shutdown by then, I will submit a story to slashdot at exactly 12 pm CST entitled "ebvwfbw was right and SpankiMonki was WRONG WRONG WRONG" so you will know you have defeated me. Hopefully both us old fogies will still be alive then.;-)
I didn't have to go very far from your first insulting sentence to understand that you either didn't read TFA, or you didn't comprehend what you read. Fact is, your *second* sentence indicated as much.
I'll try it to help you again - The whole reason why they are answering the question is so they can twist what they say and they aren't safe and close them.
I'm not 100% sure what that sentence means. Too many theys. Looks like your writing skills are on par with your reading skills.
It won't be about the most severe earthquakes, they'll say that they are unsure if their reactor can withstand any earthquake.
The plants are *already in compliance* with the old earthquake estimates. Jesus. Maybe you should try reading the article one more time.
You don't want radioactive drinking water/air/children, do you? Think of the children!
I know you think I'm either nuts or have no clue. I'm trying to give you a clue. I've been watching this for decades. Matter of fact, watch Senate hearings tomorrow. They're confirming another environmental wacko. Right here - http://www.epw.senate.gov/publ... . They will ask her about economic impacts, something they clearly want to cause the most impact with. Look forward to brownouts next summer as coal & nuclear plants go offline.
None of the above ranting has fuck-all to do with anything I've written in this thread. And trust me sonny, I have a clue. I certainly don't need one from someone who's rabidly foaming at the mouth about some imagined no-nuke boogeymen.
In SF, most units are covered by rent control, meaning most people are paying rents far below the market value. Landlord are prohibited from increasing rents or kicking out current tenets unless they violate their lease.
Not quite. Generally, any building built in SF after June 1979 is not subject to rent control. And landlords can in fact raise rents on tenants without a lease violation - they can raise rents once a year (at a rate tied to inflation). Additionally, landlords can also pass on certain capital improvement and operations/maintenance costs to tenants in rent controlled units.
Of course, if a tenant moves out, a landlord may then charge market value rent to the new tenant.
I don't think you understand what you were reading (99.9% of the US population). They told the NRC that they can't withstand the most severe earthquake.
Sigh. I know what I read, do you? Here, let me help you. From the first sentence of the forwarded article:
"Owners of at least two dozen nuclear reactors across the United States... have told the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that they cannot show that their reactors would withstand the most severe earthquake that revised estimates say they might face..."
Later in the article:
"Richard S. Drake, a structural engineer with Entergy...said the plants had far thicker concrete and steel than the minimum required. Thus, he said, they could probably withstand far bigger challenges than their licenses specified. But on the basis of engineering analyses already in hand, Mr. Drake said, 'I just can’t say, It looks good from here. We’ll have to crunch the numbers."
So according to TFA, the plant owners are not saying they can't withstand the most severe earthquake under the revised estimates, as you claim. They are saying they don't know whether the plants can withstand the most severe earthquake without further (expensive) studies.
So it looks to me like you not as good a reader as you think you are - unless you think reading shit that isn't there qualifies as literacy.
Did you bother to read the article? I'm assuming not...

These are your weapons, use them wisely.
You just described my mother in law out for an afternoon stroll.
There many international laws prohibiting spying. The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations certainly applies - specifically, Articles 22, 24, and 27.
What did Snowden get?
An enlargement of the target on his back.
LOL. Now I kinda feel like a dick. Well played, sir.

Like this guy.
I play lots of Call of Duty, so I think I'm pretty well prepared.
I'll see your Call of Duty and raise you a Farmville.
What's the point if suspend resume doesn't work at all?
Besides, this is old news. Our new and better site beat slashdot: https://soylentnews.org/articl...

You don't see anyone complaining about Viagra, etc, ending the limp dick culture, do you?
People complained alright, it's just that limp dick culture couldn't stand up to the criticism.

Heh, I also suffer from foot-in-mouth disease from time to time. And look - you got modded up! : )
You get that far and totally miss the rest.

Shill much?
Two anonymous cowards with IDs less than 1000 digits apart write anti-open source posts at the same time?
LOL!
Better check your math on that. It's actually 1Tb/inch^2.
Whoa, the summary is orders magnitude off on the density. (or the drive is way bigger than an aircraft carrier.)
So is the info in the forwarded Computerworld article. As this is a first gen HAMR drive, the density is actually 1 terabit per square inch.

True generally, but I'm pretty sure it would have to be a topsy-turvy alternate universe for Ms. Nichols to get hit on by George Takei. ;-)

Nice job. At least you got that right.
