Now, if you're talking about chat-rooms and voip communications, I actually agree, there is a TON of bigoted chat content, although that is more representative of school-boy/internet troll culture and not the industry. Still, I think there should be a stricter policy on this type of behavior, children learn some HORRIBLE habits from these atmospheres, I would definitely bust my kids ass if I heard him talking like most people do online (trolls).

A degree is no replacement for Stroustrup, K&R and the (Red) Dragonbook. Simply put, reading these introductory books will advance you much further than their equivlent college courses. As for Rhetoric and logic, math etc, just watch all the Noam Chomsky documentaries and get familiar with Plato and Aristottle, then move through the enlightment and rennisaunce with Lebeniz, Kaunt and Spinoza. Make the persuit of history, philosophy, and etymology (history of language) a hobby.
As for finding a job, while all the fools are photocopying copies of their precious degree make yoruself busy looking to your 2nd and 3rd degrees of seperation.

Actually, I learned more about development during my free time in high-school. And yes, I went to an "acreddited college" that can transfer to most major universiteis in my state. As for helping me get a job, not one bit, a college degree simply isn't the "magic bullet" that it's marketed as. Let me start over. The "religoius benefit" this article cites is "a thicker cortex" as a key benefit of theism. It implies that a thicker cortex is a good thing, "bigger is better" right? WRONG. Now that I've made you aware that my previous reply was made in the context of the article it is replying to (really? you didn't know that?), let me clear out the "elephant in the room": a thicker cortex is assocaited with a lower IQ. He already impled that the non theists he studied were lower on the socioeconomic scale, drug users, and cigarette addicts etc... It seems he picked out a bunch of "straight edge try hards" to represent the Theists in his group and a bunch of degenerates to represent the non theists. He didn't pretend to have any scruples about doing it that way eitehr, as if being a poverty stricken addict is somehow parallell with being an athiest and being a wealthy straight edge is inherent in being a Theist.
