    ok let's ignore his overtly violent metaphor. focus instead on how he values innovation that saves lives and money.

    I tried searching for "draves" with the new
    msn search. It gives rather different
    results from all other search engines. My
    brother works for microsoft and has a home
    page hosted on their site. My home page is
    draves.org.

    Google, yahoo, altavista, dogpile, and
    lycos all return my page as #1 and my
    brother's page at microsoft as #4, #13, or
    greater than #30. MSN returns my brother's
    page as #1 and mine as #4.

    What do you make of that (besides that i'm
    an egoist)? I would conclude that MSN
    search inflates the ranking of results from
    microsoft.com.

    in the past year. they didn't hype the chip...
    slashdot did. transmeta was very secretive, remember? compared to a pentium M the efficeon
    is smaller because it has an integrated northbridge.
    and it gets by on fewer watts.

    been great.... fast enough to do video
    production even. But I carry it with me
    everywhere and it's starting to wear out.
    This looks like the perfect replacement!

They know their case is crap and they plan on losing, but in the meantime their stock has gone up 10x and the insiders and their buddies are cashing out and will laugh all the way to the bank after they lose in court.     110M plus shares leave lock-out, but volume is only 30M, so the insiders in fact have decided to hold onto almost all their stock in a risky startup in unstable financial times. If that doesn't indicate fanatical enthusiasm by the insiders i don't know what does. Only an idiot wouldn't diversify.

    In light of the Toshiba and RLX/IBM announcements, I would say Transmeta's future is very bright indeed. I would take this opportunity to buy if i hadn't already. It's the last opportunity before the 5800 comes out and things really start smoking (to use a bad metaphor).

    nothing but bad news for Transmeta lately
    only if you get your news from slashdot, an organzation that generated the upside hype, then blamed transmeta for not delivering on it, and has now led the backlash.

    where was slashdot when the NEC machine was released (3lbs 11 hours 10.4" screen 600mhz crusoe)? how bout when hitachi, fujitsu, and merilus announced they would come out with machines? when microsoft and aol showed machines at comdex?

    slashdot, epitomized by losers such as yourself, delivers hot air only. people willing to make a commitment with real money showed how they think on the street today. short the stock or shut up.

    These systems are only marketed and sold be GE, the company behind the technology and manufacturing is Plug Power, a publicly traded company (ie you can invest). The other leading fuel cell company is Ballard Power, also available on nasdaq. Plug is aimed at the home market, and ballard at automobiles (think about the california zero emissions regulations).

    Of course the statement "information wants..." is not literally true, this isn't news. Petreley misses the point when he reminds us that according to the current law, copying music and software is illegal. The interesting question is why is it illegal? How can society work with reduced or eliminated copyright and patent laws? Computer and networking technology will continue to make the current system less and less workable. You can publish all the free music you want, but if the network effect makes a patented protocol into an essential part of the infrastructure, then we have a problem.
