To each his own; but if you want a more updated version, without the high price, and don't use it for development, there is always TextWrangler, though that too costs money. But less.

I love using Interarchy for edit via FTP, especially now that it does SFTP. It has a feature to "Edit with BBEdit," and automatically saves changes when you save in BBEdit. Much nicer than using BBEdit's built-in FTP (which I used before this feature was added to Interarchy).

I don't think you understand BBEdit. BBEdit was a great program before it had any built-in HTML functionality, and it still used by many people who never, or rarely, use it to write HTML. I'd be surprised if most people who used it, used it primary for HTML. I highly doubt it.

BBEdit is a fine program for people who want to code their HTML "by hand," but it is much better as a general developer's text editor, which is what it was before, and always will be.

"Madden NFL 2003" was released before the 2002 NFL season. "MVP Baseball 2003" is the 2002 version. "NCAA Football 2003" was released in July, 2002. "NFL 2K3" should've been named "NFL 2K2."

First, MVP Baseball 2003 is not "the 2002 version." That is a lie. It has 2002 stats because the 2003 stats do not exist. Duh.

As to the others, they *all* take place in the 2002-2003 season. The seasons are all 2003, and the name of the game is 2003. He could say, "well, but the stats are 2001-2002," but that has already been dispensed with (and in the case of Madden, it isn't even true, since you can update the stats on the PS2 version to BE the 2002-2003 stats).

Yes, he has a point with High Heat 2004. That leapfrogs an entire season, and literally makes no sense. But logical arguments can be made for all the others mentioned.

Considering that many of my programs work on both Mac OS and Mac OS X, there's no reason to think that MSN for Mac OS X interfaces directly with BSD. Microsoft has lots of Mac products, and most of them don't touch BSD directly (or if they do, only minimally), but instead go through the same old Mac API they have always gone through (i.e., Carbon).

Yeah, "proprietary" has not one thing to do with whether or not something is "Unix." Being Unix has to do with only two things: being compliant with the interface, and paying the trademark holders a certain amount of money. Apple has the former and not the latter. Suits me just fine.

I think my Terminal application is lost. I "moved" it from the Applications folder to the taskbar so that it would be easier to access, then it got in the way, so I moved it to the trash. However, I didn't realise that it was the real application, and not a link, so now that I've emptied the trash, I don't have a terminal anymore

That does not happen. Dragging something to the Dock and then to the Trash does not delete it. It never has.

What about versions 1 through 9? I had a Mac during one of these versions, and could not even find the command line.

There wasn't one. Mac OS and Mac OS X are two fundamentally different operating systems. They are not comparable in such terms. Mac OS X is NeXT (which has a BSD core), with the Mac OS API tacked on.

I wasn't saying that OS-X was dumbed down this way. I was saying that the more they can do to improve the CLI the better, to play "catch up".

I run Slash, a very complex POSIX-heavy system, on Mac OS X with no problems. I run command-line tools on my Mac as easily than I do on my Linux or Solaris box. Saying they need to "catch up" shows you don't know what you're talking about.

The Users & Groups passwords in Mac OS have the same problem. I wrote a MacPerl script (and a Unix perl script) that can quickly show you the usernames and passwords of all users on a Mac OS system (the MacPerl version gets the users automatically, from the host system, while the Unix version has to guess). Apple never bothered to fix it. Sometimes it seems they don't care about security unless a lot of people scream about it.
