With regard to naming of devices, Linus intentionally broke systems in order to force an upgrade. He decided that if you didn't create a/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file then he would not allow your network to work. He had udev rename your Ethernet interfaces without your permission. Intentionally breaking networking on servers which proves he hates us. He certainly doesn't care about preventing breaking when he goes on an insane rampage intentionally breaking networking.
