No ESPN or other sports channels OTA....or HBO or many kids channels. Sure, it is inexpensive, but also quite limiting. And if you are unlucky like I am you have all OTA coming from three different transmitters who are all rather far away. So you'd need a big multidirectional antenna with an amp that feeds the entire house.
Yep! A sfar as TIs go, there are now Android apps that emulate the calculator while disabling all network connections for a set amount of time. Some schools already allow use of that app.
It doesn't matter what the technology is and how many PCs or tablets are available. In the end it comes all down to quality of content and skill of a teacher. A great teacher can do with a few words and some sketches on a blackboard. Instead of training teachers to be better they get technology dropped in their laps with a mandate to use it. Typically, teachers and staff do not enjoy training courses because funding is for hardware and software only.
Schools need to focus more on teaching, states need to make the skill set of teachers better, and do away with this constant testing. Have the students write exams in class that count for the final grade. Exams are to be reviewed by other teachers, with final exams to be reviewed by teachers from different schools.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: Move teachers with the class!!! If the 5th grade teacher in math sucks it will be up to the 6th grade teacher to compensate and teach new content. If the teachers move with the class through the school years it will become apparent much faster who has the skills and who does not. Those who do not teach well get more training and if that does not help they get the boot. In the current setup bad teachers can ruin entire generations of students and far too easily unload the blame silently on others.
Which is about owning the song vs paying a service to provide a song. Streaming is like renting an apartment, you pay often more compared to buying and in the end you are left with nothing. Amazon at least lets you download the songs your purchased...fair deal.
And back in the day it was the only convenient tool to rip CDs until Audiograbber came along. It is still a great player, but limited. I defected to VLC that plays about everything.
Maybe...but it is well known that Eugene Kaspersky is Vladimir Putin's sauna buddy. I guess they talk about more than just how hot and sweaty they are.
I think they target 30 years. Too bad that the factory will close within 10 years. Foxconn already preps for that claiming that there is not enough skilled labor in that region. So why the heck build a factory there? Ah yes, they get to keep all the government handouts.
There are three reasons why Trump wants to be president
- his ego
- his business
- his close ties with the alt-right/neo-nazi movement
Trump's goal is to destroy government so that his business and those of his fascist friends can engage in any lucrative activity they want without fearing the government or having to share any of the profits. Quitting would take away this incredible opportunity and it clearly would be counter to his ego. Trump never quit, he never thinks he did anything wrong, and above all, he never apologizes for anything. Contrary, he boasts publicly that he got away with stuff because he is a celebrity. Just think about the many pussy grabs, law violations, lies, and other not even borderline criminal activities the Trump clan engaged in (such as his son giving Green Cards to Chinese investors in exchange for loans to compensate for bad real estate deals). Let that sink in for a minute. These people are running the country at the moment!
So you are suggesting that we let nazis, fundamental nationalists, and white supremacists spew their hate and incites to crimes and riots freely on any platform they choose? One could argue the same for child porn or weapons or yellowcake uranium, why not allow all those things to be advertised freely on any kind of media?
It all comes down to this: yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater is not free speech. The freedom of speech has to end where it starts to do immediate harm. I do admit that at times it is difficult to fairly determine where that line is, but I doubt that anyone with some basic human values has a problem in this case. Breitbart fans might disagree.
This does not need a court. Businesses can freely decide to end their engagement with a customer within the rules agreed to in the contract. That apparently happened giving 48 hours notice. If you call it censorship then so be it, I strongly disagree.
Censorship is never right. Although I think Trump is the biggest crisis the US has ever faced, I don't think this lawsuit has any merit. If anything, folks should sue Twitter for allowing Trump to continue with his racist and hateful posts. I doubt that is covered by their rules of engagement.
I follow your statements...it is all a hoax invented by the Chinese.
OK, I bite: By the time reliable temperature data was collected industrialization was already in full swing. I can understand that some might consider any measurements of the past 150 years as tainted. Sure, there were glaciers in Ohio, but over the past thousands of years the climate and ice sheets were stable. That can be clearly shown with examination of rocks, earth, trees, fossils, etc. In the past 100 years temperature rise has significantly accelerated and the only real change is indeed human activity. While there might not be a hard linked cause and effect to be demonstrated (that would require stopping pollution and waiting another 200 years) a strong correlation is clearly there. It is quite naive to burn oil and coal and think it has absolutely no impact on anything.
Cause or not, I think we can agree that burning less fossil fuels is generally better. It might or might not do anything about the climate, but we surely will have cleaner air and less sour rain. So let's ditch the latest crazy talk about opening more coal mines and hurry up with becoming a leader in renewable energy. Currently, the Chinese are leading, they make money with renewables and close their coal mines at a rapid pace.
Open floor plans suck. It is noisy, there is no privacy, and it feels like a mess hall in prison where the guards can constantly watch you. Some claim open floor plan fosters better collaboration. I worked in open floors, cubes, and shared offices and shared offices was the best. Ideally, you are closely working with your office mate or have one who understands that once in a while he or she needs to take coffee break now because two or three have to hash something out. What better than to work in a small meeting room all the time where you can have small meetings without p*ssing off everyone else.
Worse than open floor plan is the crap with unassigned seats. You come in and pick any workstation available. While that may be efficient and theoretically there could be more employees than workstations it does not allow for any kind of personalization. And yes, I want to get a good chuckle out of my collected Dilberts on the wall when work is a downer.
Have you ever worked in a software company? QA gets the least resources, the least respect, and typically no veto rights whatsoever. When management decides that on date X the product ships then it ships. And when developers claim that QA is full of hooey then the developers are always considered to be right. That assumes that there is dedicated QA in the first place. There are plenty of places that ship as long as the compiler does not throw any hard errors.
Yes...the memories where we went to RadioShack because they had merchandise we wanted to buy. Before RS went belly up they could not even get you a plain simple diode unless you bought one in a grossly overpriced kit.
Mozilla needs to get rid of two things to make Firefox relevant again:
- the endless arrogance of the developers
- the craptastic copy of the Chrome UI
Get the devs some training in how to interact with people (customers) and go back to the old UI, I mean the one from version 2.x before they aped Google in any which way.
I think they are just making up reasons about quality. The real issue here is that they plan on publishing on a paid online service at a price that might only attract die hard Treckies. They should have put it on their regular channel, but there are likely some who think that they can milk this franchise to the max. I like Star Trek a lot, but not as much as that I would spend extra money on it. Rather wait until it is out on DVD or on Amazon Prime.
Back in the day where we had the C64 we would tweak and twist things so that space is saved. RAM was a premium, storage was in short supply, and load times were high.
These days there are fat apps that include fat libraries of which only a fraction is used, and it all only works on really fat frameworks that run on fat operating systems. The exception here is Linux where a full OS with GUI and enterprise apps can fit on a dinky SD card that runs on an equally dinky 35$ Pi.
The biggest kicker was the Windows app for WhatsApp which does not even allow to communicate with other WhatsApp users, but seemingly produces only a QR code that needs to get scanned with the phone...and that I could not get to work at all. The download package is about 80MB in size!! What the frack??
As if the Chinese have other means of stealing our data. I was well aware of that security issue and still bought an unlocked 50$ Blü phone, which is kick ass awesome. Others make flagship phones for 10 times the price and still collect all data. Would I rather not have gazillion companies and services spy on me? Sure, but US companies are not any better. Even the electric and gas companies insist on installing the meters outside of the house. They used to be inside and they had no problem driving by in their van to read them out. Now the world knows how much power and gas I use. How is that for privacy?
Yep, but it is a fashion to bash Flash and ignore the craptastic junk others put out. I'd be fine with Flash going away for good if those who demand its demise the loudest can provide a clear alternative that matches Flash's capabilities 1:1....and no, HTML5/JS is not it, looks and works different in every browser and so far not a single browser fully supports the standard.
The great advantage of Flash is that you can create a RIA once and it looks and behaves about the same no matter which browser or OS it is run on. HTML5 with JS is FAR FAR FAR away from that. There is no reasonable replacement for what Flash can deliver. With Flash going away the web loses a great tool. And yes, I understand the security issues...then again, cars are inherently dangerous and we still drive every day.
Sad to say, but Verizon FiOS beats them all. So far the best I tried, not saying it is inexpensive or awesome, just better than the rest.

And instead increase ties with Google and Apple?
Maybe...I would take the words of ex-employees with a grain of salt.
Maybe...but it is well known that Eugene Kaspersky is Vladimir Putin's sauna buddy. I guess they talk about more than just how hot and sweaty they are.
I bet on Windows updates going haywire.

They did that for the Blü phones due to the same reason.
