Have you heard there is a Sci-Fi channel "Dune" series coming out? The previews look like it is filled with special effects, and at least one "Velvita" level cheesy line.

The Makers look the best I have ever seen them, much better than the movie.

I remember watching the movie, and thinking it was edited poorly and that it sucked. Then I watched the long version, and I remember thinking it was edited poorly, sucked and was sucking too long.

What standards? We never really have had any standards of integrity, nor is there any real punishments, beyond litigation and subcribers going elsewhere for the "news". Now that we have media giants, our "news" is in complete hell. I have seen so many outright lies that have gone without full correction, it is rediculous!
I hold Slashdot up to higher standards than the media giants. I expect follow through, and follow, up on any news posted here. I expect the truth will be told on any matter, and certainly not covered up.
If not, I get my immediate say in the matter!

The real question is, how do we hold the media giants to a standard that shows us something closer to the truth?

Do you feel this helps our relationships with other countries?
If so, could you please point out any studies that show this is true, or support your answers with verifiable facts? This is of great concern to many U.S. voters, who only want the truth, so we can decide if we want to continue to fight this "War", or find an alternative.

    Here is a clue.

He wasn't breaking the law, nor was there any "probable cause" to detain or arrest him (see below). Technically, he should be allowed to leave custody upon requesting to do so, or he is under arrest (and can take legal action for false arrest if needed).

Protesting is not against the law, and should not be looked at as such, as it has caused a great deal of freedom. Yes, some protestors are guilty of breaking the law, and yes, this gentleman may have looked like a protestor, but none of this is a legal reason to detain an individual.

It is not illegal to refuse to show indentification while walking on the street (only when driving could that be illegal).

Any police officer knows these things, and would know when they were breaking the law.

What we should expect is that our police officers are trained well, and follow the rules, no matter how difficult it is to do. They are subject to the same laws as all the rest of us, and it is our right to call them on it as often as we like, without being hassled by the police or other citizens who think doing so adds to their "security".

Would you show a stranger your ID? Would you let them put you in their van, to arrest you, just because you look like someone who disagrees with the way you think? Why should it make any difference if they were a police officer?

Please don't get me wrong, I have friends who are cops. I just don't like to trade any bit of my freedom for the sake of security, or to make a cops job easier. I am lawful, and I make sure that the police treat me, and those around me in a professional, lawful manner, even if it could be trouble for me. Not everyone wants to do this, but I have respect for those who do.

    DEFINITION OF

    PROBABLE CAUSE

PROBABLE CAUSE IS TO BE DETERMINED IN A PRACTICAL, NONTECHNICAL MANNER. PROBABLE CAUSE FOR AN ARREST EXISTS, IF AT THE MOMENT THE ARREST IS MADE, THE FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES WITHIN THE OFFICER'S KNOWLEDGE, AND OF WHICH HE HAD REASONABLY TRUSTWORTHY INFORMATION, ARE SUFFICIENT TO WARRANT A PRUDENT PERSON IN BELIEVING THAT AN OFFENSE HAS BEEN COMMITTED.

Ahhhh, but, if you made the surface of the

those little plastic/paper toys you get from
Cracker-Jacks that show you one image when
held from one angle, then another image when
    at another angle.

I could envision a surface with 5 sided

  11. Irony on Are Computers in Classrooms Bad for Learning · · Score: 1

I could argue that sitting at a desk and
reading a book all day contributed to my
nearsightedness and bad posture. Perhaps we
should do away with desks and books?

It is ironic that the article, which seems to
have a slant against using computers in

examples and no supporting evidence. Thus it
contributes to the "sea of knowledge" without
