I work for a company that does migration from Windows to Linux.
We have moved sucessfully and completly the entire IT insfrastructure from Windows based PC to Linux in 5 mid-sized companies. We are about to start the migration of other companies soon and it no longer looks so hard.
The first step in any organization is banning Microsoft Outlook (and Express).
Automation is good for the progress of the human kind it will take away all those anonying and "automatable" tasks. Thats I supose why we use computers, right!?
Now the chalange ahead is not Iraq or the Middle East, its about reducing World population from current levels to what? 1 Million? 100,000? 10,000?
And most of these people would be cientists or what? All clerks would be automatized?!
But will this happen without a REALLY World War between progress people (Hi-Tech) and primitive people (Low-Tech). Here it this is our destiny! Who will win this war!?
I have experimented almost every UNIX like OS on the market and SCO was the worse of them all. I could not even believe how crap their products are.
Actually who would use SCO for any new deployments? They are resorting to this legal attempt as their last leg, which will leave them bankrupt. They can only survive, if they build their own Linux distro with easy-special & free migration tools of their previous UNIX OSs.
The landline phone system is defintely *Expensive* , but "crap" not really. The quality of service, availability and reliability is excelent.
The reason we (Europeans) are ahead may be that there are actually more bright and technologically minded engineers, when constrasted with the US. "US" engineers are usually imported from Third-World countries or from European countries. As for the Native "US" engineers... I Better not make any comments...
Why use or develop an VUI anyway? Why not jump directly to Mind User Interface (MUI)?

I just can wait for Post-Human devices! Can you imagine how great it would be if you could just "see" user interface components without any display. That is the computer directly linked to your brain. Reality mixed with artificial objects.

The real reason for US Companies and organisations to bash WAP is: its not American tech - its European!
Unix is dead?! Windows is dead?! Motif is dead?! CDE is dead?! X is dead?!
I don't think so. They are standards and almost solid code. They won't go way for a least the next 25 years. Maybe when developments in nanotechnology or brain-input-devices show up we will start moving towards different user interfaces. But even them it will take some time for these new technologies to become standards. At today's rate that can take another 20 years.
The story behind xbill might become reality. Let's see: Bill steps down as CEO and starts his new project to clone himself into millions of litle men...
The FUD is trying to make government believe there's a shortage of IT skilled Labor. What employers REALLY want is cheapper coders, more movited and skilled.
In my experience SCO version of UNIX was one of the worst I have ever come across. I got disappointed after 10 minutes after installation - it truly sucked.
