    As soon as they said "manned", it was obvious that this isn't serious. There's no purpose to sending people to sit forever in a closed capsule.

    Primate brains evolved just fine without having a theory of consciousness. People are already building AI systems that do useful work, and these systems will continue to get better.

    More important that the size of reserves is the daily production volume that can be achieved. Given the harsh conditions in the Arctic, that's probably not very high.

    The concept of derivative work itself is not too complicated, and they'll invite experts to testify on the details.

    The "in between" stages aren't useless. The whole concept of "in between" stages doesn't even make any sense. If at any point, an organism wouldn't be able to survive, it would go extinct.

    Most high energy rays don't hit the DNA molecule. It's a small target. And even when they hit it, there is rarely any noticeable effect on long term. Usually the cell just dies (if it can't be repaired). Chips are much less robust in comparison.

    I usually don't take many photos on a holiday. Maybe one or two per day. I realized that I never look at them anyway, so I decided that taking the pictures was a waste of time and effort.

    Manufacturers are already struggling with other requirements, such as maximum possible density, and a reasonable number of erase/write cycles. Safe write ordering interferes with the other requirements, and is not something the average consumer notices.

    Exactly the same thing happens in the denier camp. Some deniers claim that it hasn't gotten warmer, that temperature records have been manipulated and such. Others claim that everybody knows it's gotten warmer, but that it's just part of the natural cycle. I've never seen these two groups actually attack each other.

    19 bits is 114 dB. That's more than enough.

    In the video linked earlier in the thread, the presenter claims that compact cassette had 9 bits resolution at the very best, and only about 6 bits when doing home recording/copying on a cassette deck. Professional tape reel managed about 13 bits, max.

    I meant that 22.05 kHz is the theoretical upper limit from the sampling frequency. You are probably right that the 20 kHz was the intended practical limit for the complete system, giving 2 kHz margin. Of course, that was according to the technology from the '80s when the CD was first invented. Modern equipment does most of the filtering in the digital domain, where it is much easier to get really steep filters.
