    The most likely reason they settled is because the law was clear and both parties knew what would happen if they went to trial.
    The most likely reason they did not release the details is that releasing the details hinders the parties ability to deal with 3rd parties.
    The most likely reason everyone else gets upset about this is because they are the 3rd party and want whatever advantage the 2 settling parties are holding by keeping it secret.

    Its possible only one party benefits directly from the secret, but in that case they certainly paid the other party in the settlement agreement or it would not be secret.

    A Media PC with a conventional browser plugged into a nice HDTV is really awesome. A really good cable package + DVR is a nice addition to the media PC if you can afford it, but if you can only choose one it has to be the Media PC.
    The only thing that is lagging a little bit are sports channels, but even those have come a long way.

    Dell is responsible for his actions he takes as an agent for Dell, such as stealing her pics. At some point the two developed a personal relationship that did not include Dell. Communications between the two that did not take part on company time or as part of his official duties are probably not Dell's problem.

    Take your car analogy, the storm blows the tree over and it hits your neighbors car, likely your liability. Your neighbor than starts to date the tree online, buys it a computer and gives it her credit card number which it uses to buy gifts for its other lady friends. Likely not your liability.

    Here is a simple test. Try adjusting the refresh rate on your monitor. Start above 75 and go lower. At some point you will start to see it flicker. Note that the point you start to see it flicker is well above 30.

    What studies?
    Is that 1 in 500 you claim the risk for the women or the man? Or perhaps an average of the two?
    I agree educating people is key, but I also think it is rather irresponsible to write a post claiming that heterosexual sex with an HIV-infected person will be ok 499 out of 500 times with posting some very solid evidence to go a long with it.

    Yes "target active or binding sites on virus'" is a strategy that can be applied to all types of virus'.

    However this is not a new strategy and so does not signal the end.

    The only way they can tell if you watch it is if you are selected for a Nelson survey. If you are part of one be sure to put down you watched Futurama in every time slot available.

    I guess there is some damage you do to overall commercial value by pirating, but you would do the same damage by watching TV and not changing your purchasing habits.

    You "tumble" it to point it at what you want to see, you "spin" it at a rate determined by the "tumble" rate and the mercury will stay inside the telescope and coat your surface.

    It doesn't have to be mercury (they are not currently using mercury). So if you pick something that is reflective as a solid, melt it, spin it, freeze it. Though it is possible that the freezing process would distort it.

    They are not suited for this type of hardware, memory limitations, screen limitation, and lack of keyboard/mouse.

    Ummm, he was asking for a phone without those hardware limitations (i.e. USB, HDMI, SSD drive). It would probably need some rather impressive energy modes in order to switch from desktop to battery modes, but thats all in the software.

    If you are driving the speed limit it is trivial to tell if someone else is speeding without the use of a radar gun.
    1) I am going 10 miles over the speed limit.
    2) That person just passed me.
    3) Is that person speeding? Not much of a gray area really.

    most of the patents involved in this case took millions of dollars of research money. To put that into perspective its more money then you are likely to make in your entire life.

    So think of it this way, you spend your entire life developing something. Should you (a) get some amount of time to profit off of it or (b) should it immediately be copied by everyone else who wants to use it.

    The Patent system is obviously far from perfect. But it is fundamentally a pretty good idea.

    I do like your cynicism, but (a) they are drilling another well, (b) you need a well in order to cap it as you can't just dump concrete through a mile of sea water and (c) the current plan is to cap it after the well is drilled.

    I am sure they would like to make as much or lose as little money as possible in this case, but motive is just a warning sign, not actual proof of guilt.

    The electoral college is a leftover from unifying the states and is now relatively stupid, but only slightly broken. Recent events aside it almost never is different than a straight popular vote.

    The two party system is not clearly broken. With a two party system the compromise and the coalition forming is done before the election, then the people vote on which coalition of interests they want in power. In a several party system people vote for a more unique set of interests that they agree with more closely (thats a good thing) then these parties compromise and form a majority coalition. This majority coalition never gets voted on and if the majority coalition was actually put up for election it very well might not actually receive a majority of votes.
