Meh all this article tells me is that the iPhone8 is going to be more expensive than the last iteration, all this rubbish about $1200-$1500 is just to soften the blow .. it will not cost anything like as much so Apple can say look we listened and decided to be couragous and only charged an extra $100-$200 dollars this time.

I understand that in the US you can be compelled to provide a fingerprint, but not a retina scan correct me if I am wrong. As far as being forced to open a retina scan, it's very easy to closed your eyes, screw up you face to stop it woring, believe me I have tested this extensively, and if you don't want windows hello to work, it is very easy to make it not open.

What Howe really means is that when there is like one of those large investigations (like Milly Dowler) etc having all the external CCTV means tracking people will be easier for them. Essentially he proposes we build the infrastructure for the police services to use. However as Ac points out Police will only be interested when it is one of these large investigations, you can expect the usual indifference to common property crimes. Also the opportunity for Intelligence services to abuse this kind of surviellence bonanza is too great!!

  14. Re:Are they really that scared? on Why Elon Musk's Batteries Frighten Electric Companies · · Score: 1

So, what evidence is there that electric companies are scared? Sounds like just the contention of a greeny.

The interests of governments often preclude them from making a rational choice. For example if huge loans made to electric generation companies are not repaid the central bank is in trouble etc. See the example of spain where solar generation is a no brainer .. great potential but the subsidies and loans made to the electricity generating companies in the nineties and noughties have to be repaid. So Spain now excessively taxes solar panels, making it an unviable economically. Its not about tech, its about the banking !!
