It is now official. Anonymous Coward has confirmed: firefox is dying
One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered firefox community when Anonymous Coward confirmed that firefox market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 3.75 percent of all browsers. Coming on the heels of a recent Anonymous Coward slashdot post which plainly states that firefox has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. firefox is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by failing dead last in the recent Anonymous Coward comprehensive slashdot post.
You don't need to be the Amazing Kreskin to predict firefox's future. The hand writing is on the wall: firefox faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for firefox because firefox is dying. Things are looking very bad for firefox. As many of us are already aware, firefox continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.
There can no longer be any doubt: firefox is dying.
Let's keep to the facts and look at the numbers.
Anonymous Coward states that there are 700 trillion users of Chrome. How many users of firefox are there? Let's see. The number of Chrome versus firefox posts on slashdot is roughly in ratio of 5,000,000,000 to 1. Therefore there are about 7000/5 = 1400 firefox users. Opera posts on Usenet are about half of the volume of firefox posts. Therefore there are about 700 users of Opera. A recent article put firefox at about 0.000001 percent of the non-Chrome market. Therefore there are (7000+1400+700)*4 = 36400 firefox users. This is consistent with the number of firefox slashdot posts.
Due to the troubles of firefox, abysmal design and so on, Mozilla went out of business and was taken over by Opera who offer another troubled browser. Now Opera is also dead, its corpse turned over to yet another charnel house.
All major Anonymous Coward posts show that firefox has steadily declined in market share. firefox is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If firefox is to survive at all it will be among browser dilettante dabblers. firefox continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, firefox is dead.

Well I probably wouldn't have watched anyway, but if I had been thinking about it, this would have pushed me into the "not" category.
They sure showed me.
Does your laptop's wifi, sound, LCD panel (in native resolution), and sleep mode work after the install, without further faffing?
If not, it's not 'for humans' yet.
Wifi and sound work out-the-box. Suspend required me to add one line in a config file. I also had to do a few things to make my touchpad work the way I specifically wanted it to.... but I think that's probably true with any system.
Users are fleeing Firefox like there's no tomorrow. The stats show that Firefox is likely around 7% of the browser market on all of the platforms it supports. The stats clearly show that Firefox's users are going to Chrome and Edge.
All we need is confirmation from Netcraft. Firefox is dying and bleeding users, flowing like a river of blood.

Whether he does or doesn't isn't terribly relevant. Tim "cares" about the privacy of his users. The 4th Amendment "cares" about the privacy of the people. They're aligned.
I'm not sure whether or not Tim Cook cares about user privacy, but I agree about the 4th Amendment and that in this instance, their positions are aligned.
Now, one might argue that the USG is no longer, practically, bound by the Constitution. But if that's the case, it's no longer authorized either. Most people would rather pretend it somehow is than admit they're living under despotism.
While I happen to agree with Apple's position in this case, I think it's important to be intellectually honest here.
When pressed about how Apple could potentially help fight terrorism by creating a tool to access locked devices, Olson explained that while Apple will help the government defeat terrorism in every way that it can, it can't be done by breaking the Constitution.
Let's not pretend that Tim Cook, or virtually any executive at Apple, gives a shit about the US Constitution.
It's just really annoying when I see these shysters get indignant and hide behind the same Constitution that they continuously mock and use as a punchline.
No! What we need is an all self-victimized woman president who can leak so many classified secrets via email that the terrorists see the error of their ways and turn themselves in.
If economic problems could be solved by such simplistic policies, it would have been done thousands of years ago and we wouldn't be discussing it.
Virtually no one takes pleasure in the suffering of others caused by economic circumstances, and likewise we fight for our own economic stability. When I think about the benefits of getting rich (which I am not), it's not about the stuff I can buy. It's the peace of mind that comes with having more control over my own circumstances, knowing that I'm not one unfortunate event away from ruin.
Yes, there are some who gain their standing by exploiting others, but I can't buy into the narrative that people who have money are generally greedy and don't want anyone else to have it. And since I have a basic understanding of economics, I know for certain that a universally guaranteed income solves nothing and is just a feel-good pipe dream
This isn't necessarily an endorsement but just an option that I have experience with. Gitlab, as far as I know, is just a knockoff of Github with slightly fewer features, but it's proably fairly close for most use cases.
We use it at my company and one of our offices has a very Windows-focused group of devs, while many of us in our office lean more toward Linux/BSD. The web interface is alright, it gets the job done. And I'm pretty sure you can self-host for free, but there are plenty of sites to check up on that. My experience isn't from an admin perspective but rather a user perspective, and it seems ok if your users aren't complete morons.
Instead of seeing political flip-flopping as a necessary evil, Frank suggests it is inherent to democracy and according to Frank if there's any blame to be doled out in connection with political hypocrisy, it's to be placed on the heads of voters who criticize legislators for it, instead of accepting it as a necessary part of democratic politics.
No matter how many hot chicks I see smoking cigarettes or how many 21 year old gym-rats I see drinking beer & getting hot chicks while playing beach volleyball, I'm never going to suddenly forget that smoking and drinking excessively are bad for my health. Nor is my subliminal mind going to convince me that I, too, can be young again and get hot chicks on the beach if I take up a new drinking / smoking habit.
If I choose to justify it to myself, or let myself believe it, or worst of all actually believe it, then I will face the consequences.
Or maybe I know all that is bullshit, but choose to drink & smoke anyway. Yeah, it's called free will. Don't bitch at me about the fact that "well everyone else has to pay for it!!!1" because I have never advocated for such a bullshit policy.
Yeah. I really wish there was a tool that would make it easy to export a list of all installed user software which you could could then import into your new system....
"Sitting behind a computer, committing what is essentially a cowardly and criminal act will not shield predators from the law or jail." Harris said. "We will continue to be vigilant and investigate and prosecute those who commit these deplorable acts."
He's coming after the AC's next!
They won't get in trouble because he is a fucking white male.
Get it right bro.

I really hate these people who take credit for my brilliant invention. Something you peons refer to as "the internets."
Oh well, at least I can still take full credit for my hockey stick.
Sincerley,
Al Gore
Love the sig. 3
I'm just not sure which is his wife's boyfriend's last name.... Kroah, or Hartman?

I'm typing this message from FreeBSD right now, on a Thinkpad laptop with Intel graphics & wireless.
It really depends on your hardware. With the right laptop it's a great system, and in my opinion much clearer than Linux.

That's cool I guess.... but now I'll think twice before shit-posting on /.
If you haven't already done so, install the latest version of Wife Software. Make sure it's backward-compatible.

Blame everyone but yourself, right Barney?
Typical left-winger.
They should have called it "Mad Max: Furry Road."

With all the bad diseases out there, we're worried about color-blindness?
Besides, it would be kinda cool to be colorblind. Good conversation piece with the honeys, bro?
Yeah. I really wish there was a tool that would make it easy to export a list of all installed user software which you could could then import into your new system....
There is! Just type....
