Make sure that they don't get a single nickle of your money. I warez all my stuff, they don't see a nickle anyway. Stuff is too much to pay for, and too needed to live without, so when that happens, poor people steal. It's been going on for thousands of years.
Boycott?
Most of the users on Slashdot I thought use Linux, so either you guys run some form of Windows (like me), or you are going to buy/warez Windows XP just so you can complain that it pops up it's own software and you don't want to hit the X in the corner. I plan to use XP because it mixes the 2K and ME code base into one product. If some people are upset that Microsoft makes software that is so easy to use that people must buy it because they want to work not hack, then let them use Linux. I could care less about seeing the source for Windows. If I wanted to write for it, I would work for Microsoft. They are a business, not a hobby.
If you guys are so "freedom of choice" why must I choose the same as you? I want my XP!
Sorry I don't have a gzip/tar.
This program IS NOT a crack, as far as my knowledge goes, it's more like a keygen program. But it's still cool, just wish that the crypto key that they left out in the source, wasn't.
:But either way, I should not be forced to use
:IE for a web browser, or their photo software
:for my camera. For that, I must (must, by
:choice) use inferior products, which just pisses
:me off.
Microsoft doesn't force you to use anything, you install it, if the OS pops up a program you don't like it, CLICK THE X AND RUN THE SOFTWARE YOU WANT!
Microsoft says that they make software that is easly to use, and they do. Their software treats you like like you are a moron and when most of the computer world doesn't know that you can install and run any software that is made for your system/OS, or you can close a program that you don't want to run, then your problem isn't Microsoft.
It's people who think that dummies can use computers. Just because the space shuttle has nice colored buttons, everything labeled for you, and mission control telling you what to do, doesn't mean that Joe Sixpack needs to drive the thing.
Computer were, are, and will always be for the Geeks.
MS has just informed the world that they own all the IntelliMice.
They will now charge for the distance that your mouse travels per month: $0.01 per foot or $100 whichever is more.
The new drivers with the billing information and credit card entries are required downloads. (You did install the Critical Update program didn't you?)
Thank you for help in making Bill the richest man in the world, again.
IANAL, but couldn't you sue them for making a faulty product? They own the rights to a faulty gene, so doesn't the "lemon-laws" of several states somehow cover their now patented "product"?
Wasn't there a movie that had three kids that made a spaceship out of a old tilt-a-whirl car and a bubble. They flew into space, met some aliens, and came back to Earth with a "DreamStone" of some sort...
Does NASA watch old 80s movies to try to get the next gereration techonology? Or do the NASA techies want there own DreamStone?
On the downside, turning The Force into super-intelligent germs was a huge mistake. In two brief scenes, he ruined the whole series by turning a beautifully impossible fantasy into a very implausable sci-fi load of crap.
No, it makes sense. After the Empire takes over, it creates the rumor that the Force isn't there, but that doesn't work, so they turn it into a religion of sorts... and like most people today, they disregard it as being stupid and a waste of their time.. so the story of the Force being supernatural came about..
And if Ben told Luke that the Force was some sub-cell being, then Luke would have dissed him as just another crazy old guy... so it makes sense..
Ok, now we have two companies.. One is for OS, the the other is for everything else (hard/software, X-box, etc..) So how does this help any, ok, now I don't have the neat "IE4" layout that is the only reason that I installed it, I don't own any Office products, mostly because they are +$200.. all my "Office" products are from Corel WP Suite 8... sure it's old, but it gets the job done... I borrowed my copy of Windows 98 6 weeks ago, and that was from a copied CD...
I may get killed tonight by some of you, but things wouldn't be the way they are if it wasn't for Microsoft.. A few days ago, Slashdot reported that Linux now had ATA/100 support and that Linux had beaten "evil Microsoft" at adopting a standard. Do we know that Microsoft hadn't been working on it? and if they do have it, they have to package it so *EVERYONE* can install it correctly on their machines..
Windows was/is built for the "Lowest Common User" in mind, that means that they can't be the first ones to support something, because they have to "stupidfy" it.. Do you think that the only things you can change about TCP/IP are in the Properties box under Networks.. if that is all there is to it there wouldn't be a 300+ page book about it...
So now we are going to have more problems from all this, because now, things aren't going to work the way they use to..
I don't know why people who want to use Linux, use Linux, and stop brothering us who want a simple OS just to surf, game, and read Slashdot on..
I, for one, don't like the idea of Network computers, unless I have control over the network itself (ie, my computers). I can just see the TOS for your new network computer.
No hacking files. No mp3s. No porn. No video game roms or emu. No reverse engineering of software. No files that explan how to buffer overflow. No files that bash our company, it's software, it's owners, admins, stockholders, or anything that is owned, employed, and/or controled by us. All encryption keys will be turned over to us. These rules may change to keep you under our contol. If these rules are broken, bent, or if you look at your webcam wrong, we have the right to delete all your work, your play, and your life.
Yea, I'm going to give up my desktop to put all my programs, mp3, roms, and text files on some Geocities-like ISP that has complete control over everything that I save and look at. Personaly, I think I'll keep my box and it's files right here.
I read somewhere that C++ cannot understand dates past 01/01/2032. If this is true, how are you/we going to fix it? I think that most Windows programs and the OS itself is written in C++, so is this THE bug that we need to work on for the next 31 years? Or have I been misinformed?
I liked the one with the lady running with the police troopers chaseing her, then she runs up to a big telescreen with Bill Gates' face on it and throws a sledgehammer into it....
Sure, the DOJ breaks up Microsoft, then each of those little corps work together to make what one corp did... At first, this would be good because the developers wouldn't have so much red tape, and products would get better. But the Microsoft Internet would team up in a billion dollar stock swap with Microsoft OS and we would be back to where we started, only thing is: Can you declare that four "rival" corps are a monopoly?
Good, now each hardware and software company will make a PC with it's own stuff... each with little quirks that only they will have... like the Linux Distros... Does this mean that Microsoft will make it's own hardware that will only run Windows 2000 and nothing else?? Or the other way around, Windows 2000 will only run on a WinComp(tm)...
It's now 11:24am and www.antionline is now off the web. They cannot be reached. Thank you.
As for the rest of my message, Ken was a very good to all of us. He was one reason I moved over to Linux. I find it great that HackerNewsNetwork and the cDc both had something to say Slashdot. Hackers are like a mob family. Treat them well and you can enjoy great riches, like Packet Storm, 2600's Off the Hook, and DefCon, but if you cross us, you will be fitted for electronic cement shoes.
As for some of the comments about mirrors, Ken didn't allow them, so no one had them. The security at Packet Storm was tight, and JP knew that. The only way he could get rid of Ken was to get Harvard to pull the plug.
I was even thinking about going there, just to work with Ken, or to talk to him. That may not happen now.
From the konsole of, Louis Blue
P.S. The next "Hacker's Jargon File" needs to have a place in it for Packet Storm Security and Ken Williams, and how JP made it all go away.
Back in the 40s and 50s... Mom stayed home.. the family had less money but they were closer.. they didn't have 2 to 3 cars.. they didn't have a house that had 3 tvs, with VCRs, cable, etc. hooked up to them... but they didn't care.. they had each other...
So if parents started to bring up their children right, that includes discipline (spanking), respect for authority, made to make good grades in school, and just a bed and a few toys in there room until they're 13 or 14.
Yes, Spanking. I am a product of spanking. It works. I am a 4.0 student in high school and at the top of my class. I say "Yes, Sir." and "No, Sir." and when I backtalk I get slapped in the mouth. My parents words are final and there is NO questioning. Because of my achevements, that how I get the computer that is sitting on my desk and the truck that I drive. If I screw it up, I lose both and the CD player in my room and the CDs that go with it. I atttend Sevrices Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night. Religon is a major factor in a childs development. And the parent MUST follow the same rules of the child, that is to say, set an example.
They are your children, they are not the school's children, they are not the religon's children. They are yours. To protect, raise, teach, uplift, and admonish. The flaws in your children are flaws in you.

Just because Apple opened up the codecs for QuickTime doesn't mean that QuickTime will end. There is still the Communicator by Netscape... Linux by Linus... and BSD by Berkley... People who write for Open-Source aren't savages who like to take other people's code and change the name on it to further their ego... They simply port the program to another OS, make changes to the code to run a little faster, or make it to support a newer format or even an older one..
No they would have flipped about starting at part 4 and not at part 1...
Make sure that they don't get a single nickle of your money.
