  1. Strange distortion in space time! on Camera Meets Speedometer, Travel Across Country Together · · Score: 1

Scientists are baffled by the strange distortion in space time near West Jefferson, Ohio as evidenced by frame 613 and 614 of the quicktime movie. Furthermore there appears to be a coverup as the Flash stills don't appear to coincide with the quicktime movie... Someone wants us to avoid asking too many questions about this disturbance. The truth is out there and whatnot... hehe

"But in the shareware industry, which can't function without Internet distribution, this freedom of theft can be much worse."

Surely I remember having Wolf3d and Doom on floppies... Nonetheless, I'm sure Internet distribution is much cheaper for the Shareware developer over floppy distribution. This protection scheme doesn't seem all that different from numerous other copy protection systems for software whether it be commercial or shareware. It will be broken like all the rest and then the poor shareware developers relying on it will get screwed like they would've before. It's unfortunate because there are worthwhile shareware products, and while I'm sure a lot of people here might scream "well just go open source." I'm sure some of these shareware developers are deservant of some monetary gain for their toil. Then again I don't think some shareware products are worth a bloody nickel, thusly I don't use them. I guess the trick is to get them hooked, ala Doom, and sell them more content. However, instead I see things that function then break, or function only partially, neither of these solutions lend me to want to purchase a program.

Someone posting in usenet newsgroup alt.prophecies.nostradamus some, well, seemingly informed messages, concerning the events of yesterday, these postings coming days in advance of the event, see this link:

I'm sure the proper authorities are aware of this, as someone has posted they forwarded this information to said authorities.

I don't want to comment on the typical traffic this particular newsgroup would see on a typical day outside of this tragedy, but these particular postings, while vague, do seem to be either somewhat informed or extremely cooincidental. It raises the question of how much could've been known or exposed via the internet before and after such events take place...

Sure.. They of course track that too and then you go on the other list, the list that gets you a knock at the door by Federal agents. They'd have lots of questions for you. Why do you, John Q. Public, need so much privacy? What's so special about you? You must have something to hide not to want to receive 'targeted advertisements' over 'regular mass advirtisements'. In fact, why don't you come down to the station to fill out some paperwork? We'd like to keep a close eye on you... For your protection, of course.

The marks "OSCAR®" and "OSCARS®" (as relating to the Academy's motion picture award) may not be used in the title or subtitle of any magazine, digital publication, stage production, video, television program or motion picture not produced by the Academy.

  12. My opinion on TBWP... on The Folly of Faking Fan Sites · · Score: 1

No screeners!? Not what my two cd's say... :O

Anyway, the movie is amazing from a producing point of view, if these guys want to make websites to promote their site, that's fine by me. People should go out and see movies without being influenced by fan sites, reviewers, etc. See the film for yourself, then make a judgement. Now if you happen to care what people think about movies, here is my review.

The movie is clearly a marketing gem, they built a mythology around a self-created legend. It's a faux-documentary, though by knowing it is not a real documentary one loses magnitudes of this film's worth. If I imagine seeing it at Sundance when no one knew it to be fiction, this film would have so much more power. The filmmakers should have kept the mythology going for as long as they could have, rather than revealing the facts, but I digress.

Camera-work? Handheld, done by the actors, in the forests, while running -- I'll let you form an opinion on how this will affect your viewing. However, this fits with the mythology and I have no problem with it.

Acting? Good performances all around pull you into the documentary nature, kudos esp. to Heather. I doubt she'll become a star, but she proved that she can act.

The main problem is that there is basically no story, imho. It's an interesting piece both from the producing side as well as from the improvosational acting side, but this in itself can become a problem. This film wasn't directed, it was guided and nudged along its path.

As far as being scary/spooky/creepy, I think we lose a lot knowing that it is fiction, but the sense is sort of creepy but not as much as hyped, imho. In fact, to me, the only shot that was creepy was the final one, mostly because I wanted more information than anything-else.

I think the film should be seen (I plan on being in the theatre on opening night), but don't expect it to match the hype...
