With this: "Everybody's been clamoring for the code...and we're going to show hundreds of lines of code." and this "SCO's CEO, today said that five or six analysts have expressed interest in viewing the code under NDAs"..
I feel some leaked code coming soon, perhaps even a T-shirt ala DeCSS...
Save journey time of 3 hours per day - (I can sleep in an extra 3 hours) Save travel expenses - (Forget the car, I can use my Snoopy slippers) Save travel frustration (delays, crowds, mobile phone idiocy, etc.) - (I only have to trip over my dog) Be fresh and alert when I start work - (Morning crack and coffee) Feel better at the end of the working day - (I'm drunk by 0930) Be at work promptly each day - (Work starts when I wake up... bitch) Work in a pleasant/relaxed environment - (Did I mention my crack and coffee?) Ready access to my (large) technical library - (Google)
Advantages for my employer: Cost savings - (I can browse for porn at home) Office space savings - (No need for a cubicle, I don't have to leave bed) Improved productivity - (crack!) Increased motivation - (I can say 'fuck you' to my employer and not be heard)
Advantages for society: Reduced traffic congestion - (I'm a maniac driver, if I don't have to leave home no one will die due to my poor driving skills) Reduction in total travel and therefore pollution - (When I soil my britches no one will notice)
There are a number of disadvantages and factors to consider, though none should be insurmountable. A couple might be:
Employer needs to monitor quantity and quality of work performed - (That's what webcams are for, watch while I surf porn sites, smoke crack, drink my coffee, and soil myself) Internet connectivity (mine currently limited to 56Kb) - (My employer should cough up some dough so I can get a broadband connection so I can be more productive in my porn browsing)
So, I worked on CsGL and am doing the new library (which is available as linked off the CsGL homepage). Anyway, from my tests, the.NET examples I've done so far, this includes all of the redbook samples, the majority of the nehe lessons, and a number of others, finds that the.NET versions run between 1-5% slower than the c/c++ versions. Admittedly most of the samples are somewhat simplistic and of course we're ultimately going through the native library and then through (hopefully) hardware accelleration, but to me that's quite acceptable. The main performance issue at this time is array performance, particularly multidimensional arrays, which are extremely slow. However, I understand in the 2.0 version of the.NET framework array performance will be improved, particularly multidimensional arrays.. As always the Mono team is improving performance and support.. Oh I did mention the new OpenGL binding is cross platform didn't I? The new library supports GLUT, as such one could develop cross platform OpenGL apps in their.NET language of choice. It runs fine under Microsoft's runtime as well as Mono on Windows, and I've had reports of many of the samples I've done running under Mono on linux and freebsd. Of course there's bugs (and surprisingly finding linux testers with OpenGL and Mono is like pulling teeth), but hopefully they'll be corrected. It'd also be nice if someone would contribute GLX support, but that's not important for this discussion...
If you're in a war, instead of throwing a hand grenade at some guys, throw one of those little baby-type pumpkins. Maybe it'll make everyone think of how crazy war is, and while they're thinking, you can throw a real grenade.
Uh no... Your non-geek translator must be malfunctioning. The case would be known as the "CPU". Thusly a non-geek "harddrive" would in fact be a 3.5" floppy, or alternatively, if they are a more advanced non-geek, it would be a ZIP disk. Of course the bulky monitors of which you speak could be translated to "the desktop" or, perhaps, "the window". Of course it's all moot, since they're going to fuck up their machine irregardless and you'll be getting a phone call at 2am after they try to insert their coffee into the "cup holder".
Just wait and see what good ol' Georgie's lawyers will say when someone takes Jedi Knight 2 and creates Dirty Wookie Lovin' involving a few dancing blue women, Princess Leia in her sail barge outfit, and one well-endowed Wookie...
Big hurrah for the network engineers of the University, large applause for the network engineers of SURFnet for restoring the 10Gbps Point of Presence within 36 hours after the fire.
I wish I could get these guys over to my house to restore my cable modem back the the glorious speeds I had about 5 years ago. Of course today if they mucked around 'restoring' my bandwidth, the FBI would show up with their guns and confiscate my my coffee pot and take a few donuts as some form of evidence. Oh well, back to my 'high-speed online' web surfing.
Hmm, if that's the case, DC area residents should make it a regular practice of shouting "AWP WHORE" every few minutes. If this guy is truly a CS player, he'll surely jump up from his cowardly camping spot, run towards them with an MP5 shouting back "I'll 0wn j00 bi0tch." Obviously, in his 12-year old furor, he'll have forgotten to load his MP5. When arriving at his target area, he'll squeeze the trigger and nothing will happen. He'll shout "Fux0r!@&!" before getting riddled with bullets by 72 year old Mrs. Eileen Mulberry, who goes by the CS handle, "Granny0wnZurBitchAzz."
I just don't answer the phone. I have a handy device known as an "answering machine." This device answers the phone on my behalf and allows me to hear what the other party has to say. I then can decide if I want to take call. I call this process "screening my calls." I've found it to be most useful. Previously, I received numerous wrong number calls, or worse, telemarketers. I've found that very rarely do telemarketers talk to my wonderous machine. However, when they do, I've found it effective to quickly "answer and hang up."
I've already applied for a patent on the "answering machine", the "screening calls" process, and the "answer and hang up" process. If you infringe on my patents expect numerous calls from lawyers...
eCycle's has an "acceleration of 0-60 mph in 6 seconds." Bah. When you're on a crotch rocket and you absolutely, positively gots to go 0-60 mph in 2 seconds or less, accept no substitutes. [Ducati.com]
Of course, a Ducati, is a bit more pricey and more of a natural resource hog, but nothing beats accelerating until your brains splatter on the pavement.
Say goodbye to an independent Slashdot. I got an ad box for Visual Studio.Net.:)

In a related note, tomorrow I'll be playing Deep Poo for the Man-Canine World Championship.
Although I am unranked, I'm not overly nervous as my dog Poo licks her butt. Unfortunately, our last match ended in a draw when Poo decided that my queen looked mighty tasty. Luckily, I was able to recover said queen from Poo's poo in the neighbor's yard. I hosed it down pretty well and we should be able to begin anew tomorrow.

Rumor has it that apparently ATI was to blame, they leaked/launched the rocket before it was truly debugged and optimized. Investigation to follow.
