Since you already have connectivity to work, and they appear to be progressive enough, why don't you have them setup a SIP Proxy to their phone system and use a phone (Cisco or Polycom) or software (kphone) that supports SIP?
You should check out Survival Research Laboratories. Cool experiments with vandigraph generators powered by Volkswagon engines not to mention killer robots.
Do you know of any actually hardware requirments for using pvm? For some reason everytime we get something going with pvm every machine but one locks up and we have to hard reboot them.
A few friends and I decided to put together a beowulf cluster of 486 machines. So far we have about 8 Machines on it. Not really doing much though but it is kinda funny. Maybe if we get a few more we crank stuff out like a pentium 200. The webpage for it isn't up yet but will be soon.
The added noise from each computer would make the last computer sound like poo poo. Also it would be like networking with co-ax except not as bad, if one machine is down it takes out all of thoughs behind it.
I have been doing a lot of mixing and pre/post-production on computers the last few years. Check out Water on mp3.com, if like what you hear give us some feed back we could use it. Check out Musicians Friend and look at the Berringer line of mixers, a lot cheaper than the nice Mackie brand, but just as good if not better.
That stuff has been around for a year or two. The scariest thing about it is the advertisments. A picture of a women ( close to naked ) riding a huge donkey with a subtitle saying "She's got Bawls!"
Everyone is getting carrot away.

Magnatune sounds a lot like First World Music.
They actually managed to get me on the list! Dylan Mathews

I was told that he could pull some parts out and stick 'em in another machine if I really wanted a barebones one.
