Ok, if I was still a dorm dweller I would be like "oh fuck that. Over my dead nic you 'Net-communist bastards".
Now with said, Universities uphold a sense of free speece. Whatever you want to say, you can say. Whatever you want to search for, you can search for. Filtering campus 'Net connectivity would damn sure not fly with either the students, sysadmins (like myself), or instructors. Hell that inhibits an instructor's ability to teach! If they can't teach what they need to teach, than what good is college in the first place?! (milk and cookie bashes aside). Whoever the hell came up with this probably read about "filtering" in a Popular Science or the "Internet for Fscking Idiots" and thought they'd toss the word around a bit to make it sound like they're not totally stupid. This would be similar to Dilbert and his boss with the tech buzz words. Idiots!
Consider this, you and your date sit cuddle up on the couch to watch a destructible DVD. Well the movie was better than you thought because in half an hour you've forgotten the movie and are either stumbling to the bedroom or on the floor in front of the couch making little geeks. After you and your date have used up a little excess energy, she decides she wants to see the rest of the movie. Well damn, it already blew up. Guess I'd better go spend more $$ to get another one. Think of what this could do to single men everywhere! WE'LL BE RUINED!!
Damn, with Linux on a N64, I might actually get one. Then it would at least be useful!
I want Linux on a Playstation.
"Playstation Linux. Garunteed to play all your games, let you pause and check your email, and serve your scores all while being more secure than the leading M$ box and without loosing a single frame!";-)
I've seriously been thinking about starting my own recently. It would obviously start very small, 1 ISP. What all would I need? Machine or 3 and bandwidth. The machines would damn sure be Linux. What about bandwidth starting out? I would love to here your input on this. If you have any ideas, would you please email me directly? thanxs thedocisn2@yahoo.com
So can anyone tell me (or point me in the right direction) regarding how I can cash in on IPOs like this? I'm a Linux user, not a stock buff. Are there any tips or resources out there that can help us folk? I have a little dinero that I'd like to invest. Any takers?
Actually one of the Blackdown guys was pretty pissed when he posted a message to a linux list I'm on. I would have to say that he was more than justified in being pissed. How would you like to do all the work on project X and not get a damn bit of recognition for it in the end, even if the license agreement didn't state that I'd get that recognition? I know it would thoroughly piss me off. Its a pretty shitty thing to do on Sun's part if you ask me.
Compare this to "Back to the Future" with the bully and McFly making him do his homework for him. Bastards..... Hello!?! McFly!

Coming out of the closet should only be preformed through a Window. This is usually very easy because the Window is usually broken. Be careful not to cut yourself on the proprietary glass on the way out; that would probably void some license agreement. If your one of the lucky few that just bought their closet and haven't used the Window yet you can take it back for a refund. Enjoy!
1. What contact person did these messages go to? Billing, Technical, or Administrative?
2. Is this the same DotComNow mail that NSI is wanting to charge $169 for 2 years of service?
3. What specifically is my domainID? I'm assuming from the/. posts that its my NSI Handle.
4. Could someone please document the whole procedings for getting in, checking to see if you have an account, and changing the passwd?
5. Does anyone live in the Baltimore, MD area and have time this afternoon to stop by NSI's headquarters and bitch-slap the first few people you see? If enough/.ers attend this little get together, NSI may get a clue and stop being so "like, whatever..." about everything.:-)
Don't tell/. Tell NSI how stupid this whole ordeal is by filling out their "Customer [Anti-]Satisfaction Survery". I'm sure they'd love to hear from their actual customers that paid *good* monoey for NSI's services exactly what they think of those services and the people supporting them. Go ahead but be honest...:-)
I pre-ordered mine and got the R4 distrobution. I had my copy of R5 within 3 days or so of it coming out. It worked out pretty quickly for me. Interesting...... Keep in mind that they have a small crew over there; which means that most of their workers probably have to double or triple up on the jobs that each one does.
They LinuxPPC team has done a helluva job on it and I would personally recommend it. I have it on my personal machine plus another machine sitting next to me that I was building last night to be a nice linux distros mirror at Kansas State University. Its very sturdy and well worth your time. You can get the Q3 CDs for only $20 too since you are a previous owner. Highly recommended. Good luck!
Our University mail server was DoS'd yesterday. Thanks to our NFS mounting scheme, it eventually stalled our central unix system (all new connections at least--if you were already on you were ok for the most part). From what I understand, the FBI has been notified. What does this mean to hackers? Don't fsck with someone that's bigger and badder than yourself unless you want one hell of a headache! Hackers be warned!!!
If you could simply telnet in as root then you didn't crack it; you just logged in. That's not very damn hard. It would be harder for you to wipe the crack of your ass than it would be to open a telnet session. It seems to me that the quality of/.'s has taken a nosedive lately. Anyone else?
Actually, it wasn't. The 9600 was. Now let me tell you, the 8600/9600 pair are damn nice machines. I have a 8600/300 and I'll *never* get rid of it. Its my baby... A nice overclockable G3 upgrade goes for very little now too. Mine will be here tomorrow! Yippee!!
Why would they want to advertise the product that they will can as soon as WinFuckUp2k hits the streets? M$ is stupid a but they are also tight little bastards.
LinuxPPC 1999 (R5) dumb? Not at all. They turn off a couple of daemons by default and have a nice little X installer to simplify things for general users. Hell we have a pretty installer for the MacOS X Server and its as far from dumb as you can get. LinuxPPC is about as good as it can get. They've done a hell of a job or getting things out the door and into our hands. They are always quick to help solve problems too. If Jason and the rest of the crew were here right now I would definetly buy them a round of beers. They've worked their asses off and deserve it. Keep up the great work guys!
I just tried to connect and it says "Logon failure: user not allowed to log on to this computer."!!!!!! Now every other try gets denied whatsoever! Muh hahahahahahaha I love the/. effect!!!!
We could bombard them with boxes of Windblows9X! We could shower them with the 95 upgrade floppies! We could even drop Kenneth Starr and Linda Trip on them!! (how about dropping the boxes of papperwork from the CLITon trial....
I don't know what the fsck you are smoking but it must be damned strong to ever coe to the conclusion that *any* release Win95 is more stable than the MacOS? My ass. I'll even go as far as to say that System 7.5 (no updates) is more stable than Win95D! Being an Apple Developer I have run alpha2 copies of assorted MacOS version and have found all of them to be more stable than Macroshit's lettered releases of Winblows. The only thing that I have that is more stable than my MacOS machines are my Linux boxes and my calculator (although there has been some debate about my Casio...)! You'd better go easy on that shit you're smoking. Rolling up M$ manuals and smoking can be bad for your health.
I have a friend that lives in an apt building close to me. We thought about wireless but that was a little steep. I'm satisfied with just running a cat5 cable over there. Its close enough and the buildings are tall enough that the risk would be nominal. A few inline surge supressors and all would be great. But he's now moving so...bastard... We'll just have to both get ADSL.;-)

Multiple Linux Distrobution mirror (like I'm doing with 4 PPC distros and a T3)
Samba mirror
Kernel.org mirror

Public Quake server!!

mirror all of your favorite **Pron** sites!
Here in my office we use Medieval names and terms.
Galahad, Gallagher, Mordred, Lancelot, Merlin, yadda, yadda, yadda
All of our printers are named after trees
Oak, Ash
Our sysadmins have weird names. Most are a conotation of their own names. Our mail releay servers are Grunt Groan. hmmmm....
Personally I think if you're gonna do it, you should have fun with it. Pick something you're garunteed to like and never forget:
Missionary, Doggie, On-top, oral, Jenna-Jameson.....

What is your current status and intent for supporting multiple OSes? Can ID stick with Mac, Linux, and Windows for the foreseeable future?
