It's weird that Nobuo Uematsu's name is off the list, since he did in fact contribute to the game; it was announced over a year ago that he composed the game's title track which can be heard in the original E3 2006 trailer.

I just installed 1.0PR and got everything just the way I wanted it, including a recalcitrant Java terminal emulator working. Ah, well, price of progress, and off I go to do it all again!

Don't! The final release is only a couple of weeks away. Don't fry your nerves unless they fixed a bug that really pissed you off. I'm waiting for the final 1.0 myself (hoping they manage to fix this bug before the release).

You need at least a R9600/FX5600 to play at a descent frame rate.

Sure... if you absolutely, positively have to play with the "Medium Quality, 1280x1024 / 32 bit" settings indicated in the image you linked to. The THG article mentions that there are several quality settings, and the resolution can surely be lowered, too. Therefore the minimum specs mentioned don't sound so far-fetched to me; a GF1 could probably handle (at least) "Low Quality, 640x480" settings.

I disagree with his assertion that a world "needs" PKs.

In the interview, Bartle claims he has made no such assertion:

[People] seem to know me for [...] writing a paper, "Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, Spades: Players who Suit MUDs," where I advocate PKing. I did write the paper, but I don't advocate PKing in it; rather, I explain what effects of having (or not having) PKers are on virtual worlds, so designers can anticipate the problems associated with their preferred approach.

And, in HCDS itself, Bartle writes:

As mentioned earlier, this paper is not intended to promote any one particular style of MUD.

FWIW, I don't detect any strong pro-PK bias in HCDS. (Back when I used to MUD, I myself disliked PKing.)

Not to be critical, but almost every Deus Ex character I see has a hefty rifles skill. The rest of it is pretty wildly variable.
I, too, gravitated towards the rifle skill when I first played Deus Ex. But I recently started replaying the game and decided to shun the rifle skill altogether in favor of a stealth+melee weapons+sidearms approach. It has certainly encouraged me to avoid unnecessary combat situations, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

Besides, the stealth pistol, equipped with a scope, acts as a reasonable sniper rifle replacement if you have a high pistol skill. And you get lots of spare inventory space when you don't have to carry all those big rifles around...

On the other hand, I miss the silenced assault rifle...

Check out the Linux Hardware Database, which seems to fit the bill nicely as far as hardware is concerned. Seems like a well put-together, informative site with a decent amount of material.
