  1. Java @ Linux on Java Performance under Linux · · Score: 0

Help! Help! I need more RAM, just insert it directly into my veins !
    But seriously . . .

I love Linux because it is a challenge. I like an OS where you can see all the inside stuff. Linux has come along way in just the last two years in terms of public acceptance (and I don't just mean at corporations). I was in a general bookstore a few weeks ago, bought a book on Linux, took it to the cashier and she recognized the name Linux and said it was becoming popular. If a cashier at a bookstore can say that then Linux is on its way.

However I can't say the same thing about Java. Maybe its because I don't like that Bill Gates wannabe, Scott McNealy. I don't like SUN MICRO either.

Java has had more than enough time to prove itself and make some impression on the public, yet it still suffers from the image of the JAVA 'crapplet' from its first days on the Internet. What exactly has JAVA accomplished in all these years? Not a whole lot. There is no reason to abandon C++ in favour of JAVA. A programming lanuage without pointers, are you kidding? Garbage collection, so what ?
Even SUN is now talking less about JAVA and more about JINI, its next, hot, new wave of nothing!!

Prediction: JAVA will fade, Linux will grow.

  2. eCrap.com on CNN Misrepresenting etoy vs. etoys Battle? · · Score: 1

Why didn't etoy.com just sue eToys.com first? They should have known that some big ass American company would try to run them off the road. The whole situation is so galling and absurd. Why isn't eToys' email being stopped and its website shutdown? I would like to know who has the authority to shutdown a website in Switzerland anyway.
The whole nature of the web is way too American. Far from being an international phenom, the web is just an extension of Americana. Not a bad thing, except when American biz interests start to clash with the rest of the world.

  3. Distros sux vs. rox on SuSE and VA Linux Partnership · · Score: 1

Since we always end up discussing distributions of Linux, no matter what the article or post is actually about, why don't we just have our very own, in-house Linux Distro Sux vs. Rox O'Meter. This way we could get all our pet peeves of off our chest, and move on to really important issues like: VA Linux vs. Penguin Computing vs. ASLab vs. making your own from scratch. A SUX-ROX Meter would be just the new feature to rile up the readership !! ;-)

  4. Linux for the masses on Gartner Slams Linux · · Score: 1

People who insist that Linux is for the masses are just plain daffy. What is this urge to conquer the desktop ? Does everyone want to drive a Formula 1 car ? Some people were just meant to drive Chevys. The whole focus on Linux development seems to have shifted from quality kernels and SMP to window-dressing. We already have window dressing ! WE want support for USB, serious multiprocessing, workstation power and speed. Pedal to the metal performance and not wimpy windows !

Linux advocates, get off your Windows/ Bill Gates obsession and deliver real power .
    Make the hardware smoke !

I am now done. You may breathe again.

  5. "easy to use distros . . ." on Download.com Features Linux Distro · · Score: 0

Easy to use distros bore me. Where's the fun in that ? With Linux, you want to struggle manfully just to install the thing! Poring over technical manuals and resolving issues is where its at. You should write your own device drivers. What's the use of getting an open source OS if you can't tool around ? Might as well get that Windblows 98 from MicroShaft.
Linux was meant for people who like to look under the hood, without passing out or barfing up ( IMHO). Text-only command line RULES !

  6. Older distros - and the newest on SuSE larger than RedHat · · Score: 1

I know this is a little off topic, but what the hell ever happened to Ygrassil Linux and Craftworks Linux?
I just got a copy of SuSE 6.1 a few days ago and and going to install it soon. It really looks sharp - 5 CDs and a decent manual !
I've been watching and 'lurking' in the Linux scene for a long time waiting for it to mature, and am now finally taking the plunge.
