  1. Sorry, but... on Open-Source Software and "The Luxury of Ignorance" · · Score: 2

Sorry, but I can get Linux to crash on my laptop thanks to a certain crappy ALSA implementation. Just recently my Gentoo startup froze for no reason. I literally had to power off and restart, which fixed the problem.

Windows, needless to say, works without even installing vendor drivers.

Basically, the only reason this article got posted was so that very bad "comedians" could make very bad jokes involving the Matrix. I've seen every expected cliche as far as humor goes, all within the first 50 posts. It's ridiculous.

Should we also make fun of the OSS naming problems? Kougar? Kroupware? Kallery? Xouvert? Come on.

I'm wondering how many years it will take for KDE to rip off the 3D acceleration features...the whole desktop will be DirectX accelerated, going far and beyond what OS X has been doing as far as 3D photorealistic desktop concepts go. It's codenamed "Aero" and they're not release screenshots because they don't want their concepts ripped off.

With CD walkman's so cheap and durable now (for years, I've been able to literally shake any portable CD player in my hands and the music doesn't skip) using nothing but two AA batteries, I see no reason why a handheld drive for an even smaller disc wouldn't be possible in the next few years for a new Gameboy system.

When the SNES was out, nobody thought a portable SNES was possible either, but the GBA is even more powerful than the SNES. Just takes time for technology to catch up!

I hope Nintendo's next Gameboy is simply a handheld Gamecube with a cartridge slot for backwards-compatibility. Think about it--the Gamecube discs are already small enough. And then Nintendo would already have a product line as well as developers familiar with the system.

I'd love to go from Metroid Zero Mission to Metroid Prime on one handheld Gameboy...
