    I can't comment on some allegation from someone 8 years ago. I'm also not sure how you get "Wal-Mart pays no taxes" from "the state of Massachusetts wants more tax money from Wal-mart".

    Regardless of actual reality, you still seem pretty determined to believe that Wal-mart and Microsoft don't pay taxes. And you seem to have no problem telling people this, even though it is easily shown to be false.

    Stuff White People Like says white people like Obama.

    He's against trade, so if you want any equipment from overseas, you might have trouble. (On the other hand, some on his campaign say he's only pretending to be against trade to fool stupid voters.) If you want packets from overseas, he may be your guy.

    I can't support any of the major party candidates or Ralph Nader because I care about freedom and liberty and all of them are anti-freedom. I can't support Bob Barr either because he has no effective foreign policy plan.

    Games are really a team effort.

    The team at Ubisoft Montreal is outstanding. Valve. Infinity Ward. Naughty Dog does some great work. Epic.

    Walt Disney Co. more-or-less owned the animated films business. Even if Miyamoto is "the best", which is highly arguable, it's still not like Walt Disney at all.

    Well, Wal-Mart & Microsoft pay no appreciable taxes, so you can start with them. No, I'm not googling it for you. Microsoft paid $6 Billion in income taxes on $20 Billion in earnings according to their most recent income statement.

    Wal-Mart paid almost $7 Billion on about $20 Billion.

    Greenpeace is certainly involved in piracy (the nautical kind) against Japanese whaling ships. If that's not terrorism, then there's a pretty thin line.

    I don't think you understand the difference. Slashdotters accept bigotry against Mormons but not against Sikhs. If you were enlightened, you'd understand that. It's one of the rules: religious bigotry against white, non-Jewish, non-Hispanics is accepted or encouraged among enlightened, educated people.

    Mormons are especially vulnerable to this rule because some white Protestants may agree with the bigoted consensus, not realizing they're next in line for hate after the Mormons.

    Because hypocrisy is ugly. So let us leave all talk of improvement in any area to two groups of people:

    - The perfect. We would be wise to listen to their instructions.
    - Those with no opinion on whether one thing is better than another. By giving up all standards, they are perfect by their own judgement -- which they can't exercise because they have no standards by which to judge anything. We have nothing to learn from these people, by definition.

    BTW: Your judgement of hypocrisy is a little hypocritical, given that you've been at least a little hypocritical about things at some point during your life.

    Not that there's anything wrong with that.

    if you have set up your country such that 60% can create oppression, then it's your system. change it. But it's working so well for the people who are currently at 60%.

    if over 100 years you can't get a growing minority to share your values of freedom, then you have more fundamental problems than democracy. there is a fundamental problem with immigration and social policy in the country. That is what people have been saying. Be careful not to say such things in Canada.

    Also, a "growing minority" might actually look at results and trends to decide which values to share. How attractive are the results of post-Christian socialism?

    ...then I am highly offended by your attitude and plan on taking you to court. The courts dismiss claims like yours. They simply don't hear them. They are not general purpose. They are a weapon that can only be used by certain people against certain other people.

    Why would you assume that obvious injustices would be applied fairly or equally?

    if in 100 years 99% of Europe are devout muslims, what's wrong with the majority in that country changing the laws to reflect the culture of the new society? What if it's only 60% Muslim and that 60% votes to oppress the other 40% of the population? What if they have good intentions behind their oppression, like equality and virtue, and so they're "the good guys"?

    Democracy is an inadequate substitute for freedom. European post-Christian socialism has produced an unsustainable society. The result will be a very different Europe in 50 years.

    They keep making the standards harder and harder to meet as the air gets cleaner. The purpose is to make sure enough areas continue to fail.

    That way, the EPA still needs more funding even if the air is clean.

    By moving the goalposts, they ensure their efforts are always "needed".

    If the standards had not changed, almost every one of these places would pass easily.

    With 6 people sharing cable, that impossible-to-reach 250GB turns into a paltry 42GB. Or about 1.4 gigs a day. It would be very easy to accidentally hit that if you watch videos online. If all 6 of you watch a lot of videos online and don't store any of them locally, then maybe.

    Just because one person out of 6 could use that much bandwidth doesn't mean that all 6 are likely to use that much on average for a whole month. It still sounds extraordinary.

    Those certainly are a lot of links to agencies with a vested interest in maintaining their funding by hyping the air pollution/disease connection.

    You sound like a lawyer, BTW. What does asthma caused by pets have to do with air pollution? Are there fewer pets on high pollution days? I'm not sure why you'd want to muddy the waters with irrelevancies.

    My main point was that the air is cleaner. It's so clean that it's no longer a problem in most places in the US. There are anti-freedom agencies and activist groups and trial lawyers who will try to sell a false message of horrible pollution for their own personal financial or political benefit.

    Folks ought to understand that they aren't getting the true story (and certainly not the whole story) from these groups and the media who publish or broadcast on their behalf.

    I could research it some more and post some more links, but I'm not a paid activist or government worker. I don't work for a trial lawyer. I have productive work to do and can't spend all day posting propaganda on forums to maintain popular illusions.

    ...t fly into an LA area airport on many days, and your will actually descend through a yellowish-brown layer... The actual number of days in "many days" is in the 20-30 range now. That's down from 200+ days in the past.

    Paying for illnesses that are caused or aggravated by smog isn't cost effective either, both in terms of economic and human impact. Asthma is negatively correlated with air pollution. See this report, page 10.

    You are right about LA and CA.

    But all the cites are much, much cleaner than any time in the last 40-50 years. Especially LA. Efforts to clean up emissions have succeeded.

    No, I don't live in LA. If the problem isn't "solved" (or almost solved) in LA, then LA is an outlier. Almost all of the cities in the rest of the US have clean air.

    Air pollution has been largely eliminated in the US. Our air has been getting cleaner for 40-50 years now and is now extremely clean, despite what you might hear from activist groups and the news media.

    Here's a report on the subject.

    If UAVs are needed, it's because we've surpassed the point where the air is adequately clean and we need to take ridiculous measures to try to attain perfection. Perfectly clean air is not needed, is not possible, and is certainly not cost-effective for the public.
