Whatever decision is eventually made in this dispute, I hope it protects "my rights online" -- somehow.
It would be bad if my rights were somehow jeopardized by some high-school vs. commercial radio station dispute in distant Washington state. Bad indeed.
The 9/11 incident affected the majority of the citizens of the US.
Some were directly affected when they died in those buildings. Some were indirectly affected when air travel was shut down, or when the stock markets were closed, or by the economic impact, or when their insurance premiums increased, or when their tax money was spent, or when the post office raised the price of stamps to pay for Anthrax prevention, etc, etc.
That's why it's a national security problem. It's the federal government's #1 duty to protect national security.
It's not the federal government's duty to keep you from getting mugged outside a gas station. Talk to your local cops about that.
It's OK to investigate people to determine whether they're innocent. It's OK to "go after" the ones who aren't innocent.
Your position is apparently that we should just wait until some more terrorist incidents occur and then convene a grand jury for an investigation -- possibly leading someday to an indictment.
No, they can't take over. Would you be willing to accept the level of influence that terrorism has on daily life in Isreal? I wouldn't -- not for the United States.
One thing that a local worker can do that a foreign worker won't do is care.
Care about the end user of the application -- provide him a good user experience. Care about the ultimate ROI of the project -- not just your cut. Care about the application's security. Care about the stuff that's not mentioned in the specification or the stuff that's underspecified. Care about the person hiring you and whether that person is happy he did. Care about doing a good job. Care about meeting your schedule.
When something isn't going right on your project, and you're frustrated, explain that you'd "like to do a good job and [whatever factor] is going to compromise that".
You get the idea. Your foreign competition won't be able to compete on motivation because he's not there. He can't see the big picture. There's a disconnect, and no matter how much he cares, he won't be able to overcome the distance.
It doesn't matter to you. It matters to "millions" of other people. Their judgement is no less valuable than yours. And they outnumber you.
In short, turn off that TV and read a fucking book for a change.
Because entertainment on TV is bad, but entertainment in a book is good. For some reason. Why moralize on something as trivial as media perference?
It's unseemly to try to undermine athletes and entertainers because of "envy". It's unseemly to try to derive your self-worth at the expense of other people. (Not uncommon though.)
I admire the work of builders, engineers, scientists, managers, entertainers, athletes, doctors, farmers, teachers, janitors, brewers, etc, etc. Basically everyone who produces value for people. The scientist's success doesn't come at the expense of the athlete. Why should anyone want it to?
It is unrealistic to think that we could replace the reverence for entertainers with reverence for teachers. I only meant that the difference in status of the two groups reflects (badly IMHO) on our culture's values. Its true values, not the ones it claims to have.
Criticism of reality in favor of some unattainable ideal has limited usefulness.
I see no need to criticize entertainers or athletes to applaud teachers or anyone else. Leaving the athletes and entertainers out of it would eliminate the "envy" factor and increase the reality factor.
I hate the guy as much as the next level-headed person
"Hate" is level-headed now?
He likes multi-player games.
SunBlade 100s are very slow by modern (last 3 years) computer standards. It's not Java's fault your hardware is so far out of date.
You can get a complete Linux PC for $300 that's 6-8 times the speed of that SunBlade (or faster).
So, rather than hate, it's about prejudice against "those with money". I see.
I guess you have to hate corporations a lot to "get it". Hate isn't really my thing.

You don't need a wagon when your dog is a World War I flyng ace.
So when you're wrong, you just redefine your terms.
It depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is. I guess.

Jefferson had his own unconventional war.
More here
I heard that there weren't any WMDs in Iraq and that only "dense" people thought there were.
No, that's a process. It'll take longer. It starts in 5 weeks.
(Actually it's already started, but the major milestone is on 6/30.)
Yes. And he, and people on his side, have been wrong all along -- going on a year now.
I'm still wondering who is dense though.

Iraq independence day is in 5 weeks. When was Palestine's?
...technically it was a WMD...
Thanks.
Murder and rape are crimes against individuals. The government has no business predicting and preventing crimes.
Terrorism is a national security issue. Protecting national security is the #1 duty of the federal government.

Chemical weapons found.
Who's dense?
Perhaps the similarities to the attack on Pearl Harbor are distracting them? Are people really so complacent?
Now i'm wondering if the shower curtan was to blame.
Your shower curtain didn't buy the cat.
I think it would only work if your phone number is all 1s.
And that's my phone number.

Just an observation.
