"the shadow of a sphere is 3d is a circle in 2d. The shadow of a 4dSphere is thus a 3d sphere in 3 dimensions."

Okay - I'm assuming this just breaks down when you go below 3 dimensions, as the shadow of a 2d object would also be 2d. Since we don't have any 1d objects, we can't test those, but if a 2d object casts a 2d shadow, and a 3d object casts a 2d shadow, wouldn't it follow that the 4d object would also cast a 2d shadow?

Of course, the whole Evangelion thing built around the 4d-produces-3d-shadow thing was just way too cool (watch the anime - I think the ep is somewhere around the middle of the series)

  2. Dismiss this guy - he's not worth our time on Interview: John Vranesevich Doesn't Really Answer · · Score: 2

He comes right out and says that he INTENTIONALLY pisses off AS MANY people as he can.

What better way to piss off the /. community than to issue a diatribe like this? Refusing to give clear, concise answers to questions, indeed outright ignoring the issues that were posed, is one of the best ways to piss off a group of intellectuals.

So, if we bicker and bitch about this guy, all we do is fuel his fire, which is what he wants.

Put satirical humor about him up, we only give him free publicity.

Hell, saying anything about him at all gives him "airtime" - even if it's just telling people to ignore him.

So basically this guy has created a situation where no matter what we do, he wins

Ignore him completely, just let all of this nonsense die, and it'll be the best we can do to stop this kind of moronic behavior.

This is truly a sad day. MST3K was just one of those shows that appealed to (just about) everyone - and performed a needed service - making us laugh. I for one will miss it.
Although it is true that the show went unplesantly downhill after Joel, then Trace left, it was still much better than most shows on TV. I hope they leave it open-ended for "special" appearances and possibly a revival once things calm down. (The summer movie spot was always good for a few laughs)
