Stock prices are rising! The recession is over! Capitalism is alive and well!
I am HAPPY that this company is selling these computers at such a high price. It simply means one more reason for people to buy items from me... You wanna buy a motherboard? Hey, man! I can get you a good price on an AMD cpu! Need Intel inside? No problem!!!
Our family has been using the same printer for over 30 years now. We have been very happy with their quality of work, and same-day service is provided for many smaller jobs. From business cards to wedding invitations to funeral programs, nothing beats a local, family-owned printer service.
True, cost is slightly higher that the Kinko's shop near the mall, but they know me by name and will deliver items to my job if needed.
My printer is retiring in December. He says his children don't have the skillset needed to operate or manage the business. If they cannot find a buyer, he will close shop and liquidate all assets.

Pythagoras theorized in the 6th century BCE that the earth must be a sphere. However, those same "educated classes" continued to worship numerous astrological deities that today are recognized as false. But 200 years before Pythagoras, Isaiah 40:22 referred to the 'circle of the earth', using a Hebrew term 'chugh' which is defined as round or spherical object.
It is amazing that the Bible presented a scientifically sound statement, free from mythological ideas, thousands of years before the invention of UNIX . . . Quite amazing!
Did you read the very last sentence by Porter Anderson, writer of the that CNN article linked above? Anderston states:
"American Gods" may also just make Neil Gaiman's career.
What?!? I thought Gaiman already had a relatively successful career. CNN.com should require their staffers to do more research on their subjects than just a quick visit to Google.
Optimist: The glass is half full.
Pessimist: The glass is half empty.
Engineer: The glass is too big for the volume of liquid being sampled.
The most relaxing PC video game I ever owned was The Game of Harmony by Accolade in 1990. Take a look at a brief review here. The object was to "push" various similar-colored balls into each other. If you moved your "ship" in a calm and controlled manner, you could rack up a very high your score. However, you were directly penalized if you moved around haphazardly.
Forget about "bio-feedback"!!! This is one of the most relaxing and intriguing games I have every played. In fact, I might go buy it from ebay right now . . .
I just read a thought-proviking article entitled "Globalization - Curse or Cure?" that addresses these same issues in a politically neutral, intelligent manner. It is the cover story of Awake! magazine, May 22, 2002 issue, printed and distributed by Jehovah's Witnesses. If you don't find them, they will find you! Check it out!!!
With Microsoft making inroads into the PDA market, is this lawsuit just a ploy by Palm to distract the competition? It forces Microsoft to expend additional resources, while Palm can focus and regroup. Or so they might be thinking . ..

Oh, yeah? Then why is Windows still around?
Be, Inc. made SEVERAL mistakes during the early years of their OS. The problem ISN'T that it is a "closed-source" OS. The problem is that the company directors were CLOSED-MINDED. By neglecting the true needs and demands of the current marketplace, Be Inc. lost out on a wonderful opportunity.
How would ex-VP Dan Quayle have scored on this test? or G.W. Bush?
This theory looks sound in writing, but it doesn't apply to all real-world situations. I think it's much less than 80% accurate, when you weigh in such factors as geography, gender and race.
From what I have read, most economists and sociologists state that the best predictor of future income is the income of one's parents during childhood.

Yes, it will work! Computer security is a SPECIALTY that must be learned. It is not a general skill that all computer professionals possess, like how to reboot an NT workstation. Until business managers recognize this fact, and hire well-trained computer security professionals to care for their networks, the problem will continue.
It is possible for a SysAdmin with good management skills in a large network to take ultimate responsibility, if he agrees to oversee the job performed by the actual security specialist. This is similar to "computer managers" in some companies who themselves are not highly skilled programmers, or aren't the best at troubleshooting hardware glitches, but just oversee those who do. To hold a SysAdmin responsible is just giving managers a scapegoat for when problems arise.
But to dump the responsibility on the sysadmin will not work. This has been failing miserably for almsot 30 years.

Until managers understand and treat computer security SERIOUSLY, the same basic weaknesses will remain.
One thing that helps is for companies to hire computer security specialists, and make this their primary job. Instead, many businesses that I work with expect their already-overburdened sysadmin or network administrator to "protect" the network, something he/she has never been trained to do. The average NT Administrator does NOT know much about network security. The new Win2K Security certification is a step in the right direction, but it is only a baby step.

Small robots are NOTHING compared to "Undercover Dust Bunnies"! The February 2001 print issue of "m-Business" magazinehas an article about "Smart Dust" spy devices.
According to the article on page 10, U.C. Berkley researcher Kristofer Pister received a $1.2 million grant from the DoD to create super-miniature spy devices! Their smallest device so far is the size of a kernel of corn. However, this new "smart dust" concept will change the entire field of espionage.
"m-Business" has not updated their web site with February issue info yet, but here is the LINK to the site when it is updated.
In our company, we get our users involved in the decision-making process instead of making and trying to enforce blanket security policies without explanation. We regularly educate our users about various e-mail formats and attachment types, their benefits and dangers, as well as other network security issues. By focusing on education instead of enforcing rules, my team has been able to get high levels of user co-operation and posivite feedback.
As you acknowledge, "a great deal of the HTML features are utterly useless in a E-mail." So why not educate others of this fact, instead of chopping it down to a black-and-white issue of all HTML or none at all.
Most users are not stupid, merely ignorant of some details. There is a difference, and much of this ignorance is due to techies that can't clearly express themselves.

Here is a link to an MSNBC video of Kamen's iBot invention. The first time I saw it, I almost cried.
Kamen doesn't predict the future, he produces the future! If "Ginger" is only half the quality of his previous devices, then "IT" is gonna be HUGE!!!
I have used these apps more than anything else over the past six months:
EGG TIMER - it's a countdown timer. It's easy to set, easy to read, and it doesn't take up much memory. It's perfect for me.
AVANTGO - Take the Internet with you...for "free".
FIREPAD and FIRECONVERTER - takes a snapshot of a web page (or anything displayed on my PC) and downloads it to my Visor. Grab static images of sites of web sites too large or too complex to be retrieved thru AvantGo.
My dream device: the VisorPhone! Too bad it uses GSM. Too bad it costs more than my Visor Deluxe!
See Apple McIntosh systems for a prime example. They have used SCSI hard drives since the early days.
It's not that they think better. They just don't think "MONEY" all the time. Companies continue to push inferior IDE drives for financial reasons alone.
Maybe that's why Apple has had financial troubles for sooooo long.:(

. . . but "traditionally", the SouthEast has ALWAYS been the last region to embrace major changes on any sort! Anything in the SE that afftects the flow of money will face an initial measure of resistance in my region of the country, until those in control find a way to profit (or not lose their position) in the wake of these new ideas.
But the rate of change in the SouthEast is accelerating, partly because of the way technology breaks down barriers to communication. When companies large and small (MCI-WorldCom, BellSouth, S.E.D., etc.) create profit centers and pay geeks (Oops! "technology specialists") real money for real work, it forces other businesses, politicians and school systems to rethink their entire value system. And when people start using their brains . . . it's amazing what can be done!
The SouthEast may not be for everyone, but I'll stay put. It's not because the rent is low in my city. It's not because I have a 20 minute commute to my job on a bad day. It's not because I am being well-compensated for my university-level education, two certifications and several years of experience on various platforms. I like it because my fiance (yes, I have a life) likes it here, too!

I'll try not to flame you, because that's not what computer engineers do.
