  1. Wii Magic on The Wii - Is the Magic Gone? · · Score: 1

My father-in-law (who had never touched a console in his life) asked about the Wiimote on my coffee table. I showed him how to play Wii Tennis. When we got home from dinner that evening, he asked me if I'd like to play again. We played for tennis an hour, then bowled for 2 more hours.

But what is really remarkable is that when I tell this story to friends, many of them say that something very similar happened to them. No other console system has been able to reach outside of the traditional "console market" the way the Wii has done since its release and that is why stores can't keep them in stock.

My father-in-law looks for a Wii every time he goes into Walmart, and there are a lot more people like him in the world than the ones counting down days until the next "GTA" release. The magic of the Wii isn't that it is selling more units than the PS3, it's that the PS3 wasn't even a competitor for the market that Nintendo has found.

  2. My still unanswered question on Napster Offers $1B For Music-Swapping Rights · · Score: 1

is, how does Napster make money currently? They have been in court for quite a while, run 100+ directory servers for the service, must lease pretty fat pipes to connect it up, yet have no banners or membership fees. WTF? Does anyone know where they get money from and how they imagine they can pay another $1 billion to the labels in the next 5 years? Who would invest in a company with a 5 year plan like that?

  3. Re:MacOS 9 on Apple Makes G4s Slower · · Score: 1

Mac OS 9 is closer to Mac OS X client than either OS 8.5 or OS 8.6. OS 8.0 wasn't close to anything. Mac OS X client should appear to the consumer to be about the same as OS 9, it's the back-end stuff that will be the big change.

  4. Re:Retail is $6,500. on New Flat Screens From Apple · · Score: 1

Retail is $3,999 not $6,500. For $6,500 you get the display and a bad ass machine.

  5. Re:Digital input on New Flat Screens From Apple · · Score: 1

The cinema display has a "Digital Visual Interface (DVI) 24-pin connector with Transition Minimized
Differential Signaling (TMDS)" according to the specs on Apple's site. It also requires USB connection for onscreen controls. To connect it to a PC you would need a video card with this type of connector //read:digital// and USB. I'm sure Apple will make it only for Apple machines however if you can find a driver for the display, I'm sure it would work.

  6. Maybe it's Friday on the brain but... on "Key" Linux Site May Be Sold? · · Score: 2

...the most obvious Linux based company that would benifit from this (not to mention suddenly has a lot of capital to spend) is RedHat. Is there a good reason why they wouldn't want to spend good cash for this site?

  7. Re:that that fool! on Ask Slashdot: Storage Capacity of the Human Brain? · · Score: 1

I'm must be missing something... If the sentence is grammatically correct, replacing some of the words with more recognizably distinguishable ones should still result in a correct sentence. So replace "Buffalo" (city) with "Chicago" (New York sucks imho), "buffalo" (mammal) with "bison" (mammal), and "buffalo" (verb) with "push" (verb). We now get: Chicago bison push Chicago bison Chicago bison push? Should there be a "that" or "whom" before the last Chicago?

It's no wonder men and women have trouble communicating, just look at the language we have to work with!
