I've been telling my friends this for a long time and their response has been, it's fine on DSL/Cable/your broadband of choice. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought this through.

I would guess most distributions use LILO by default because that's what most of the documentation is written for, and what's been used as the defacto standard since the olden days of slack and redhat. I personally used CHOS with my debian box, because it was very easily customized and had a gui customizer to boot, and LILO would only do the LI and stop for some reason.

I'd have to agree with you, however I doubt the immature days of Linux are gone. KDE and GNOME people are still fighting instead of working together to make a decent UI, and the strongest voice of the linux "community" is still the echo of a million flames lambasting everyone that's not linux for not being linux and 31337. I think the linux "community" needs to work on growing up and so does the software if it ever hopes to be able to be desktop friendly. I'd say apt is a good start, but it needs much much more than just good package management. It needs apps that don't suck, and it needs a killer app for the desktop instead of the windows ripoffs.

I'm just gonna make one comment about this.

This is exactly what and how Apple achieved with their version of NeXTstep. They not only took someone else's robust kernel, but they also took someone else's gui framework as well.
Steve Jobs, worked for Apple, Steve Jobs got fired by Apple, Steve Jobs created NeXT, Apple bought NeXT, Steve Jobs interim CEO of Apple, so effectively NeXT += Apple.. Nowthen, About OS X, you're right, they took someone elses kernel, but they rewrote Display Postscript completely and reverse engineered PDF by hand to created Display PDF, and the rest of the underpinnings to create Quartz, which is only similar to NeXT's gui framework in concept, but is an evolution from it. However, Carbon and Classic are both pure Apple granted Classic is an OS9 emulator similar to plex86 and VMWare.

I'm not sure what else they could give back to an open source project. If it really bothers you that much just use mozilla and copy the plugins to your mozilla plugins directory, or install a banner filter proxy. It's easy. In IE 5.5 you get links and other assorted crap to MSN so it's all the same.

the old "feel" was put back in the latest beta, the jump based on FPS however is not in the newest beta as it gave people an unfair advantage and amounted to cheating (flame me all you want I don't care) which they're ardently against. I personally think the damage through walls thing was wise to take out, as it's not realistic, however they could have special brushes for metal gratings or something that would give the damage through walls effect when it's useful, and realistic. I don't know which side of the fence you're on with regards to strafe jumping but I'm all for it, I don't know how coordinated you are, but I can run sideways and jump sideways and I would assume most other people can. The only thing that bothers me about quake3 is that bunny hopping is faster than running. If I remember correctly in the early tests it wasn't, but Thresh bitched about it so to quiet him Carmack made it so.

It gets what they want you to hear out in the open, which != the true information. The reality is smoking pot is no worse than drinking alcohol. There's always going to be the "rebel" mindset as long as marijuana is illegal, that will never change a thing. Pardon my anti-establishmentarianism but the shirts make you look like a tool, and Most people laugh at you for wearing them, because the war against drugs is a farce.

Red Ribbon week was my favorite time of the year, we'd all be asked to sign the petition saying we'd be drug free for the year, and then after school we'd all smoke some weed and get drunk. If you think Alcohol isn't a drug, you're on crack, which is also a drug. ;) Nowthen DARE admittedly might have helped people decide not to do the harder drugs, I know I haven't but that's because one of my ex girlfriends was addicted to coke and was in bad bad shape. I figured out on my own that wasn't what I wanted. With that being said, I think the grotesque showing of the heroin and meth addicts the Government is showing in their commercials are the most potent ads they've had yet. Hard drugs are bad, Marijuana isn't a hard drug. Just for the record though, I haven't smoked in over a year, because for the most part I haven't wanted to. I wouldn't turn it down if someone offered, but other then that, there's no need.

I'm sure they care if they get lied to, but the site in question is quite frankly brilliant social experimentation, much like the Invasion from Mars on the radio oh so many years ago. We're growing as a society and need to be tricked in newer more imaginative ways. Do you think Hitler would have succeeded with his blatant propoganda and primitive brain washing techniques if he were doing his run today? No, he wouldn't have. Nowthen, on to the cool stuff and offtopic stuff, that everyone seems to miss. In the presidential debates the man at the anchor desk, I don't remember his name off hand said something I found peculiar. He said and this is paraphrased "Let's see what the people at home on their couches thought about tonight's debate." Like he wasn't talking to us, but to someone else perhaps the government brain washers trying to perfect their techniques to get anything past us . I've also noticed that the candidates agree completely on the issues at hand, the middle east, gay marriage, education, social security, internet legislation, abortion and so forth, and only differ in their implementation of their values. How may I ask are we supposed to choose from two opposing candidates when they do not oppose eachother. We're being led down a one way track, and noone it seems is noticing it. You talk about sick mister Benjamin Shniper, I say this is sick, not your worrisome social experiment that didn't get posted and ruined your precious day. Of course, I could be wrong about this, but I hope I've atleast opened some eyes.
