Why not add.us to then end of all the.com and.net and etc , then setup nameservers so that when queryed with ibm.com it looks at ibm.com.?? where ?? is the local country
this would mean that the pressure would be removed from.com with all the other countrys using their own registerys
The internet is an International Network and the domain names should reflect this
This scheme would mean that putting ibm.com or ibm.co in a browser would go to the local ibm site , and putting ibm.com.us would goto the us page - internatinal companys can afford registering in every country of operation anyway

at home I pay for my phone line at downloading a flash anim over modem is SLOW
people seem to forget not everyone is on a Cable modem here.
If i get ADSL at home then I'll have to pay for volume used too
so bigger longer adds will cost me money

Slackware hapens to use a STANDARD package manager that's all Slackware uses tar and gzip , what's so bad about that ? every unix around can use tar , gzip is available on most too rpm , deb ? why limit yourself to one distribution by using them ? granted that Slackware's uninstall and upgrade isn't as easy as appget or whatever debian calls it Slackware is standard , librarys in sensible historical places , portable package managment.... if you can get source in tar.gz format then every UNIX flavor can download it and use it not just some linux people !
