    the funniest thing about Catholic vs. Bible literalists, is that there are only three aspects of the bible that Catholic (Eastern or Roman) believe literally happened, while the biblical literalists absolutely do not accept these as fact. They are:

    Permanent Viginity of Mary
    Transubstantiation
    Assumption of Mary

    no, the last mile problem must be shared by all of society, as those who are most expensive to reach are the most expensive to, as well as the least profitable.

    thats why utilities (electric, phone) were government granted monopolies who were mandated to wire this last mile. the companies were guaranteed to recoup their investment in infrastructure through regulated rates.

    it is absolutely imperative that these costs are shared fairly throughout society, and in the past always have been, see the TVA for a prime example.

    its not about making it "cheaper", its about laying the most expensive bit of wire, to the least profitable customer, and making sure that it gets done, so that all citizens in this country are treated equitably.

    Sony now produces everything sold in NA in Mexico, so you arent getting the japanes precision.

    AFAIK, the only electronics manufacturer still producing in japan is Panasonic (Matsushita), and i have had very good luck with the panasonic gear that i've bought.

    the 35mm statement came from an analog-bigot friend of mine... i had previously thought that 35mm was about 12MP...

    amazing thing about analog bigots, no matter how nice a picture digital takes, they pass it off as an inferior work, just cuz it was digital. eff 'em.

    Damn that hasselblad is nice... does anyone need a kidney? i only really need one, and then i could afford the hasselblad...

    digital sucks for archival reasons though... i've lost several hundred with dying IDE's...

    and then my cd's were eaten by mold, so the backups were toast.

    prints tend to hold up much better.

    costco does 12x18s for 2.99

    but as for "art"... you are 100% right... sometimes you need control of the equipment to do special things, such as special inks, or non-puritan material.

    it depends on what you want to do, and if you are truly into art, walmart aint gonna cut it.

    i've had good luck with costco's printing... the 12x18's that i printed there were beautiful, and cheap. you must be sure to turn off the color-correction when ordering...
