If some college student had pulled this stunt they would be sitting in jail as we speak. Why is Sony getting away with this crap? I also can't believe that they stole code from LAME and violated the LGPL without a second thought. These people are criminals in every sense equally as bad as those they are trying to keep from copying their CDs.
I will never, never ever buy another product that says SONY on it again.
I don't like buying something and then having restrictions placed on it's use. DRM is not a very friendly thing to do and it makes me feel like I'm some sort of criminal and can't be trusted. Why would I buy from someone who treats me like that?
I'm pretty fed up with the way the whole music and film industry has gone in general. They asked us to stop sharing mp3 files so I did and so did most other people. That has not been good enough for them. They want total dictatorial control of something that is created by talented musicians, but owned by lawyers.
So, I only buy CDs from indie bands now. If you want me to buy your CDs, come to my town put on a show and bring CDs. I'll pay to see your show, I'll pay for a CD, but I won't put up with being treated like a criminal.
For myself to switch to Fire and T-bird I think there will need to be some links between the two. When I click on a mailto link in Fire nothing happens, nada zip zero. Not even and open with screen. Same thing when clicking a web link in T-Bird.
I like moz because the mail program is right there when you need it. As far as features go, there is not a huge difference between the two. If it wasn't for foxytunes I think I would have switched back to moz even faster than I did.
I'm a grain farmer. I don't know the first thing about programming anything and didn't have a computer until Windows 95. My tractor was built in 1967. I'm not even close to being a techie kind of guy, but I had zero trouble getting CUPS going and I kind of liked the GUI setup tool.
Actually I've never had any trouble getting printing going on linux and I've been using linux since RH 4.2. I never did upgrade from windows95, don't like it. Might boot windows two, three times a year now max.
As a musician I have a need to play. It's something I just have to do and will always have to do. It doesn't matter if any one hears it or not. It's in my head and I have to find a way to get it out.
As a music fan I have a need to hear the voices in the heads of other kindred spirits who I can connect with via music. I'll get a hold of that through what ever means is available. Most of the music in my collection is special order. There is, make that was, a great deal I was never able to aquire until the internet united us all whether it be purchasing cds directly from the artist's web site or just downloading a mp3.
My personal feeling is that the RIAA is fighting to save itself under the guise of protecting it's artists. Technology has made the old system ( as ineffective as it was ) obsolete. Artists can now deal directly with their fans no matter how distant they may be. The Industry tried to ignore the technology, but the musicians and the fans created the system they wanted instead. Now the Industry is on the outside looking in.

So while it might be cool to have 2 way satellite net access, if you actually try to use it to do anything but look at web pages your going to end up paying $150 a month for service that is as slow as a modem.
Should be pretty handy for anyone without a phone line though.
