One of the "features" of some of these new cameras is that they stream back to a remote website. You then log onto that website to view the video. I have a security camera that you access via a Chinese website. In addition, the software is always detected as malware.
Nothing sketchy there lol. I just use the camera for monitoring my parking area and utilize its local SD card storage, so no network needed.
I've repeatedly sent complaints to Adobe and Oracle over the years telling them that they are being underhanded in the "pre-checking" of the tick boxes - ie - requiring users to opt out. I actually have had to go around and instruct users to read their screens and not blindly click next. If anyone has solid strategies to ensure that only clean versions of Flash, Acrobat Reader, and Java make it to the desktop I'd love to see them. We're a not-for-profit of less than 200 users, so cost is an issue.
Just because there may be a faster way to do it does not mean you should do it. One commented mentioned the entire system being down for the entire duration of the upgrade. That would be a no-go as far as the customer is concerned. One pump is a manageable inconvenience, half is inconceivable, all is grounds for termination. Gas stations sell more than gas, and those pumps draw people into the stores attached.
Let's say you can get the process down to five minutes somehow, and the customer is actually on board with this. You do have the risk of bricking an entire station at once now. Stuff happens when upgrading firmware. Five minutes turns to thirty. Good uploads get interrupted. Shit happens.
Lastly, why would you want to reduce your hours of billable time? You figure out a way to make your job part time and it will become part time, or part of someone else's job. Had it happen once. Literally worked myself out of a job.
I'm turning 49 in a month. I take care of all the end user support in our organization. My predecessor retired from his position, and I'm planning on doing the same in 11 years. I'm not socially awkward and have a lot of life experience, which makes it easier for me to teach people who might otherwise be put off by me being a "young pup".
Health wise, I had a wake up call in my early 40s and have lost weight with diet and weightlifting, gave up smoking, and am now an amateur powerlifter..
I love these "server" keyboards. Great key spacing, good tactile response, doesn't have a ton of wasted space. I'm on my second one in nine years, and that's only because I went to a different company.
and at what point does sampling cross the line? A lot of music lends itself to being similar as well. Some music will sound like other music if it has fewer instruments - like say rap. If I listen to the two songs in question it's clear that they're similar, but is it an out-and-out copy of the other.
^This. Everyone is adding a layer of tinfoil to their helmets, but the real concern for the average Canadian should be this. Would this information somehow end up in the hands of those chasing pirates? The industry definitely is interested in who's downloading Glee. There's money to be made in on-demand media and boxed DVD sets.
One thing they did right was BES. The amount of control I had over my user's phones was immense and I always got an email on my BB before my desktop. (Not minutes, but definitely two or three seconds).
I still have users begging me to give them Blackberry's with keyboards. But after giving the Director of the company one I canned them all outright. The version 10 OS was just so awful compared to the simplicity of the old one.
I think my biggest issue with all of these vendors is that they have the option checked to begin with, requiring the user to opt-out as opposed to opting-in. Even companies like Adobe and Java have their add-on crapware and toolbars enabled by default. The installation of Chrome being the biggest pain in the ass.
I've repeatedly emailed them and told them that this practice is really underhanded, and that they should really uncheck those boxes by default. Sadly, I can't even tell if they received the email.
Grassroots ban-the-(check)box protest online?
Sensible shoes. Not sensitive or comfortable.

What the poster meant was that you can be a disbarred lawyer AND run for PotUS.

I was surprised it took this long for that to be said. I figured first post!
