It's interesting to watch the double speak and who gets exceptions. This anti meat agenda is an us against them sort of thing much like other socialist crusades. I'm pleased as punch personally when people decide to go vegetarian. That makes my meat cheaper in the short term. Long term though I worry that forbidding meat in general will become fully canonized doctrine in the progressive church and then production will get threatened, taxed, and/or prosecuted even worse than it already is.
Because the trees cannot speak for themselves, I will. Please don't reduce the CO2 in the atmosphere. It is just the stuff that trees and other plants thrive on. It's called a greenhouse gas for a reason.
Pretty much. Oil does get made, it's just that the pace of the process is glacially slow (think millenia) whereas our rate of extraction is frighteningly fast (think decades).
Maybe...or maybe not. The total earth production (consumption) of oil was supposed to have peaked already several times yet we keep finding more. I don't know if we even know the correct exponents to describe current remaining oil. There a lot of unknowns in this arena and new technology keeps changing the game
I say free the trapped CO2 - For a warm and verdant future. Our planet has definitely seen higher CO2 levels than humans have recently experienced. It's called a greenhouse gas because it is added to greenhouses in order for plants to thrive. If you love trees you'll join my movement
I guess I'm in the same boat here. I actually want a warm and verdant future. The reason growers add CO2 to their greenhouses is so that the plants will thrive I don't see a couple hundred extra ppm as a big deal....oh sure it could (and probably will) cause a million things to change over time, but so could a big asteroid hitting the earth or increased volcanic activity or a lot of other things that I don't or can't necessarily control directly. People / nature will find a way particularly in this instance. We know that levels have been much higher and life found a way. There is so much uncertainty about what will actually happen and where the effects will be the most acute. It's like trying to fix your car before it breaks....sure you do maintenance, but when the transmission has a funny noise and the dealer can't really figure anything wrong, the best answer is usually just drive it until it breaks. Life isn't always fair. There are winners and losers. I think the key is what you choose to do and how you choose to act, not what happens to you.
I am admittedly lazy. Can someone point me at his source. I couldn't find it in a cursory google search. I'm not planning to use it in the wild, just curious about which exploits he used exactly.
Don't keep the Carbon locked up! CO2 is a greenhouse gas. Green houses are warm and verdant! Free the carbon for a warm and verdant future. plants will thrive, flowers will bloom and it may help us escape the coming heat death of the universe just a bit longer.
Automation frees up labor for more interesting work over time. Plus it typically creates a whole work force around it https://xkcd.com/1319/ . If you're smart find another thing to do, if you're not just wait around to be forced into something else that you didn't choose. Look at what other Biotech people went to, or find a different thing. Don't be a socialist. Seriously https://fee.org/articles/why-s... .
It is only because Ruin has made a deal with Preservation and the universe in the end does not exist, but miniscule fraction of a second before collapse has been expanded indefinitely. Ruin doesn't mind because time is inconsequential in the face of immortality. Eventually the forces will cancel each other and the universe will end unless the Hero of Ages intervenes claiming both powers simultaneously.
As for "cars will be stranded in place, and owners will have to pay for disposal" -- 8 years from now -- the author is frankly nuts. The only way that could happen is if the government banned gas-fueled vehicles. Republicans would never vote for such a law at any time in the conceivable future, and I'd guess that probably 95% of DEMOCRATS would hold their noses & vote Republican if it were the only way to avoid having their most (or second-most) expensive asset rendered worthless by Democrats... which is why the Democrats wouldn't do it, either.
Agreed....No one will ever need to PAY for disposal. The raw materials that make up a vehicle have intrinsic value that will always have some demand. Metal recyclers will pay you the going rate just for the steel and they'll take the rest of the vehicle and deal with it. Even if no one used the old time delayed solar (petroleum) technology anymore, metal is always going to be somewhat valuable. If people start giving away old junk cars for free I would gladly take them all!
actually I saw some kind of documentary on a group in Europe that tracked individual roulette wheel results to use physical bias against them. they would observe the wheel to get statistical bias for certain numbers. This in turn would allow them to put the odds slightly in their advantage. Now casinos swap them out because of the bias or something like that
Maybe we could take the pile of bureaucrats over to the NSA and ask them to disclose which encryption/security measures have frustrated them the most, or required the largest efforts to bypass. I'm sure that there is technology that is exponents cheaper to just socially (you know just kind of take the keys through a warrant or whatever) overcome than to actually bypass. The biggest problem in systems that are built to be secure is generally social integrity not actually technology problems.
97% of all climate scientists receive politically motivated funding and drink the same cool-aid. That said, in my spot on the planet we receive the gift of temperature inversion every winter. This traps the air blown in from China in my valley and everyone gets upper respiratory problems. I don't have a problem with people releasing as much CO2 as they want (plants love it! Green houses are good for plants), but particulates... well please keep it down India, China, LA, factory down the highway.
actually typically HUDS are fixed on the vehicle body (at least in the fighter pilot community). These would be more like helmet (head) mounted cueing systems present in more modern day such as JHMCS http://www.vsi-hmcs.com/pages_hmcs/02_jhm.html
time that someone has put a no military clause in with GPL'd code. I'm surprised this hasn't come up before....then again maybe someone will bother to point out that this is a dupe...
And it did! well I guess it wasn't elvis, but he was kind of a gateway for later 'radical' music that produced a generation of Hippies with rotten brains and low morals. And I'm not just trolling either, I mean the best things that came out of the 60's and 70's were a break from the 50's, but not necessarily in a great way.
If you replace haphazard processes with specially selected (maybe genetically engineered) strains of algae kept in controlled conditions, with concentrated feed of nutrients and sunlight, the production capacity could be immense. So yeah, I think it can be done.
Uh I think you misspelled expensive as immense. I'm mostly with you, but just developing a cost efficient processes for this could take decades alone. I bet you could get funding for it though in today's environment.
and besides, how else will we ever get the technology to "holodeck" status if we don't keep blowing research money these caves.
On a serious note though, these types of rooms tend to be gee wiz dog and pony crap that is only useful for getting more research money to blow...which in itself makes it worthwhile to build them;-)
I think it would be more like Lulu and Nana Delphiki as these twins would be comparable to Bean .... not Ender.

so .... oil is just long term solar storage, and is continuously being renewed....just not as fast as we're using it .... probably.
I bet Thanos sponsored the study :-)

two things:
1. They probably aren't north Korean, but were hired by the administration...ie mercenaries
2. I'm sure they got "da wheel pans" wink wink

uhh ... meteors don't necessarily slow down to a terminal velocity. It could happen, but it's not likely. That's why they are so hot.

mormons sheesh. When all else fails the use of force is justified
... just don't use the f word ... your bishop wouldn't approve.
18 Therefore I did obey the voice of the Spirit, and took Laban by the hair of the head, and I smote off his head with his own asword.
I can't say I disagree
