I bought a "non-working" computer for $5 at a yard sale, I re-seated the ide cable and then started using it again. Anyways, I decided to mod the HDD with a plexi window and cut a hole in the front of my case for it as seen on UnixMonkey.com and I did this outside, I opened the HDD, even ran it outside while using a dremel tool to cut the hole in the top, used the computer with the HDD exposed, and put the thing back on with a plexi installed on the top of the HDD, has worked fine! Clean rooms are not needed. Just get some balls.
Yea, I think its an awesome article, and I have a few DC's that I am going to do this to for fun. BUT......I think if someone found a DC connected to a cat5 taped to the underside of a desk, or in the ceiling, I would think they would be calling the FBI ect. to have that thing torn apart, and then find out where its tunneled to. Then if the attacker was stupid enough to have it go to his own IP then he would get knocks on the door, if he had it going to a comprimised machine then that machine would be torn apart and I hope there wouldn't have any trace to the attacker. Fun idea, but better cover your tracks HARD because if someone finds a DC duct taped in a cieling there gonna know something BIG is up, and someone that knows what there doing is behind it.
Why bring Religion and the "Almighty" into this? This is not an article on religion, it is an article on science. This is/. not a Religous forum. The Earth orbiting the sun is SCIENCE, religion is not. There are plenty of scientific ways of figuring out if this thing is going to hit the earth or not, and if so how to stop it. The Religous way of this would be to say something dumb like "well if it does, then it was meant to be". Take charge of your life, don't just follow behind someone else's words.
I agree. I was reading that and thinking, "script kiddie?" It seems to me like real hackers would be doing things like dumpster diving and social engineering, and going to hacker confrences and security confrences, a script kiddie on the other hand would be at home, running scripts he knows nothing about, that he got from other people and told to put the victims IP in the right spot.
Instead of putting ads in the OS, why don't they just make the whole OS an ad? Kinda like major sports are doing. You've heard of the staples center in LA well what about the "CompUSA OS" or the "GateWay OS"? They pay for the whole project to be funded, then they get to put there company name in the title of the OS.
I don't agree with it, but I can understand the mind frame of the cable companies. For them, WiFi is just like getting your cable tv, and running your coaxial over the fence and to your neighbors TV. There the cable company, they have been doing this shit for years. Altrio Cable company in california on the other hand claims they dont care what you do with your internet access, they allow servers and wifi sharing, and anything else you can think of using it for that other cable companies would crack down on.

In case its slashdoted? +4? This is the text from the Slashdot article at the top of the same page it is on! I didn't see anything in there from another website.
There is evidence on them, there has to be a server the spoofs the tftp ip of the cable company and serves the cable modem a fake docsis file. This can be done relatively easy with motorola surfboard modems.
Making it legal to DoS the P2P network, but what about the other networks the DoS attack is going through? If I was an ISP I would be pissed about this. We have enough geeks here to make a massive DDoS attack, lets start posting the IP's of people DoSing the P2P, or better yet, lets do a terrorist attack on the RIAA. Tell them that the Slashdot crowd will/. there website everyday that they continue to DoS the P2P. Nothing illegal about posting a link to there website and having everyone visit it every 30min. Besides, think about the bandwidth costs the RIAA would have to pay for. Be a patriot, visit RIAA today!
My bad, UnixMonkey.NET
