I am very pleased that real finally figured out that linux users also listen to the internet. and i can tell the difference between 128 and 64, but not 160 and 128, so I am happy with 128. I also purchase songs on the net at a minimum of 192. i am also a comcast subscriber, and I was a little displeased that the rhapsody change has not yet found it's way over to comcast's service which appears to offer a few more free radio stations. i guess i will take the plunge for a while.
I just tried it here using Linux (Ubuntu/Breezy) with Firefox 1.0.7-0ubuntu20. It works fine. However, if I am not getting at least 128 kbps, I will not subscribe. That is my minimum. Trouble is, I get no bit rate shown on their player. How else can I tell ?
Here in Oak Ridge, TN there was a celebration of this milestone. In many ways, Oak Ridge, while it has diversified dramatically over the years, still is a product of the advent of the atomic age. One interesting side note: as part of this celebration a learned speaker on the subject came and gave a talk on how Nazi Germany was also simultaneously pursuing an atomic bomb. I had not realized how indeed the US was in a race against the Germans toward this goal more so than the intent to actually use the weapon against the Japanese. If not for a few fundamental mistakes the Germans had made, and an attitude of complacency that they had in the early 40s (they actually thought they had already won the war), and of course key German scientists coming to the US side, the world may have been a far different place today. Anyone who does not recognize that the advent of the atomic bomb, while not something anyone would cherish as a good thing, is not also responsible for the free world as it stands today should take a closer look at their own historical perspective.
Rhapsody for free for comcast subscribers ? I tried it and all that I got was 30-sec sound bytes at low quality for free. I did not see the free streaming they advertised so I dropped immediately. Further, the notices implied they would start billing for the service at a later time.
This is about the stupidest offer I have ever seen ?
You can't even try it out without buying a Windows version ? Come on Nero, you are fiddling while Rome is burning down around you. this is what you should do:
either allow the OEM version serial numbers to work (which I do have one purchased with my Yamaha drive), or
simply allow Linux trial version that you could purchase later, or
simply give it away to sway customer away from k3b (which is free and works better)

I have been using Debian for several years on production servers. I have found Debian not only to be more stable, but also more secure. Security updates are routinely discovered and corrected long before commercial vendors or corporate security agents notify me of a required change.
Yes. Works fine. convert rpms to debs using alien. figure out the missing run-time libraries using ldd. install them. Add a few entries to ld.so.conf and run ldconfig a few times. things work fine. no sweat. I am looking for a debian-connector package soon to take care of all this stuff.
I have tried both the nvidia nvidia driver and the Xfree86 nv driver. Both will not work with my Dell 2000FP flat panel under 2.6.6 or 2.6.5. It seemed to work under 2.6.4. Also, I am not enabling the 4K stack change. All else the same.

you can easily add spamassassin as a filter and it would probably be better than anything that would be hard coded into evolution. I already to this and route the output to a "spam" folder. It is in the evolution FAQ on the ximian web site
You might give them a call. If you can do a purchase with them for the desktops you need for your Debian machines, I suspect they will offer it. Their reasoning has something to do with "corporate America" as he explained it to me.
Call up Ximian to verify yourself, but a salesman told me when I tried to find out how to purchase Connector, that Ximian would no longer support debian starting with v1.4 of Evolution/Connector. Further, he went on to state that the software, if installed via alien or forced to install via rpm, would not run on Debian due to some type of check for distribution type. I do not understand this at all, but I am not willing at this point to purchase Connector just to find out. The rpms available for evolution 11.4 require glibc 2.3.2, which is not yet ready even under Debian/Sid.
I just found out that Connector would not be available for my Debian box. The corporates here say to use Connector for the Exchange interface. What other tools are available for interfacing with M$ outlook-exchange ?

I think there are some unnecessary critism in this thread. shfs is exactly what I had been looking for for quite some time. I saw the article on nfs over ssh. This is sort of there, but requires knowledge of iptables, etc. Indeed, it took an entire article to explain how to use it.
However, this package is very simple to use ! And it serves the purpose of being able to mount remote drives over ssh.
After trying it out, I did have some suggestions which I plan to post to the developers.
Now, most people who do not live in high-density areas do not get any DSL at all. This way, at least the service will more likely be offered. We do however, get cable modem broadband. Now, maybe we will get some competition.
Here at ORNL, we still have what is left of a research project to investigate the feasibility of a nuclear-powered airplane; the idea being to fly around the earth for extended periods without refueling.
There also is present research, some of which is done at ORNL, in the area of nuclear-powered space ships; in the nuclear world called "space reactors".
I am an 8-year long Linux user and contribute via bug reports, etc. I am a 30-year long FORTRAN user and am too old to change. I have tried several different "modern" languages. I do my best documentation in Latex. But, I still resort to FORTRAN to get any real work done that requires number crunching. Also, as many have stated, there is a wealth of existing code in FORTRAN that will never be converted to another language. So until something comes along that replaces these old codes that is written in a "modern" language, then you will always have FORTRAN.
No only do I backup all my linux boxes with amanda, but I have added several windows clients with samba as the link. It works great. It is also common practice here for windows users to not backup their machines. Incredible ! No ?

I don't think so. The whole idea of ssh is encryption, not limitations on what it can do.
