Would be interesting to know exactly what stuff do these machines do? Maybe they would even be able to share some code so that people can fiddle around with it optimizing (should be fun).
Yeah, yeah, SSE... Nice, if you can manage your data properly aligned and don't mind manual assembler coding (even intel's compiler does so-so job at vectoring). Still, even then you don't get trigonometry, for instance.
IMHO, that may well be the future for Palms. So, the question now: in a magazine I've seen a shot of some new Samsung phone displaying... PalmOS launcher! Is it just a photo-editor's deed or Samsung really makes Palm-based phones too? Thanks.
Well, if you tried working on SMP machine it's quite a bit different feeling really. You can't quantify it but it flows smoother. Which is not too surprising IMHO. I wished sub-$150 SMP motherboards for AthlonXP become commonplace (even if now it's a bit too late, but maybe socket754 ones). As for single CPU at higher clock speed, well 2x mainstream frequency CPUs are often simply not available, even if they are, they cost much, much more than 2x.
I hope that w/ multicore CPUs speach recognition (you shout "archers to the big tower!" and they do) and maybe camera tracking of player's movement will be more commonplace in games. I guess that would be pretty cool stuff until 3d-without-glasses-or-helmets displays come to life.
Tell me - if you put a black panel against white wall and snap it in the focus - how many _pixels_ would the border be? 10? 20? 100? BTW - the simple rule is that you need only 1 MP per 10 sq.in. of print for _critically_ sharp images, i.e. those that best of modern printing equipment can realistically produce. For printing in your photolab (moreso inkjet) you can divide that by 4 safely. The question is that all those MPs from the camera are somewhat fake, see above. PS: What's the matrix size of that phone, anyway?
Actually, it's ok to steal a loaf of bread if the alternative is to die. Well, I don't say that without bootleg music you'll die but that's not me who starts these parallels.
I suppose those devices from "Clockwork Orange" should work better. Dang, how is a digicam supposed to image anything when you are sitting in the dark?
1. I have yet to see a _legal_ foreign origins CD anywhere around here (except MS Windows Home Edition). If they don't want to (properly) sell them here they are better not to complain that people "pirate" them. Also - very few people have international credit cards to pay over Internet. 2. Average salary is a bit of a myth. Hardware costs are higher here than in the "civilized" world but every household has a computer (those who want) and it's probably pretty pepped up. 3. And yes - those russian companies that sell software (1C and stuff) have an ok business around here. I guess MS is also well in the black. 4. Localization! If Autodesk makes a half-assed russian version of AutoCAD they better not expect people rushing to buy it when bootleg localizations are of better quality. 5. Same about music - you do realize that songs in English for most people here are not quite as cool as they are for those who can understand lyrics. Would you buy Hindu songs at the same price?
And anyway - what was the point of posting this article?
RAIDs are reasonably good against disk failures but those are on par with _file_system_ failures! Think about it - if a fault in OS, or a fault in RAM (cache), for example, or malware mess up your FS metadata RAID5 is supposed to help you how? Still, everything counts when you run a multi-million enterprise (at least), but for storing "your DVDs" it's an overkill and not even a panacea.
Hmm, that's easy! Memory, EG, take current entry level amount (256?), divide 16G to that (=64), divide current entry level amount by that number (=4). This takes us back around 10 year. So we can assume it is still about 10 years until 16Gigs are in entry level machines. Terrabyte HDD = 1000 Gigs, current is probably 40, quotient = 25. 40 / 25 = 1.6. The year is 1995-1996, IIRC. So - 8/9 years until terrabyte HDDs. Don't take this too seriously though;)
OTOH - the fact that they did not _see_ crashes on MSIE does not mean it has no bugs. It may well mean that they silently swallow the exceptions. I've seen stuff like this:
try
p:= nil;//EG
p^:=....; except// do nothing end;
Your fault is that you think of him as a sensible businessman doing sensible business. Your life would be easier when you think of him as moral-free greedy evil bastard, like the rest of us do.;)
What voices in the head force you to get PCs from "major OEMs"? Even if I think that self-built computer is as superior to them as a home-made cuisine is superior to warmed-up semiproduct, there's still tons of computer shops that will assemble the thing for you by your specs/wishes. You will probably even get better support from them.
Me: XP2000+ w/ Glaciatech Diamond 2100 cooler (very cheap and _very_ quiet). This cooler is w/ temp/speed auto-adjustment, usually runs at just 2k+ RPM. The "AMD is a heater" is a myth. The case is pretty old InWin A500. All InWins should have very quiet PSUs too. In fact - I can hear my monitor buzz at the night.
No, no, it's not funny. Really - how long would it take with all the FS distribution and stuff? I bet no less than 30 seconds.

That's what flash cards are for. Quiz: how much internal memory do Nokia smartphones have? (Hint: It's a single digit number).

Be grateful or The Dupe will be titled: "DVB-T STB/MPEG2 PTCA SMBS"
He can type!!! :)
Except it has a battery, MP3 decoder, DAC, battery...

The problem w/ 60km is that you can be sure you won't be the first one to pick it from the landing site.
Is there a section for a cat or do you strap it externally? Do they provide a tiny helmet?
19k big firework that you need some liquid oxygen to launch. Hm... Sounds like a bargain, what's the catch?
(Mod me troll)
