    Dark matter apparently has a huge gravitational impact on the behavior of galaxies and clusters of galaxies. If this turns out to be real and not an artifact of the data, it could give us a clue about which way we should be looking for this mysterious stuff.

    Sorry, but my medical relatives have all been expressing concern about a massive, compulsory immunization program when the disease is relatively rare and the vaccine is relatively unproven.

    If nothing else, we're still dealing with the whole "MMR vaccine causes autism" fiasco - anything that further entrenches an anti-vaccine attitude in the public is problematic.

    legally, I'm not so sure. I've heard of auto dealers coming after people who benefited from a pricing error - with mixed results. As a practical matter, I think the bad publicity almost always outweighs the money lost.

    Back in the day I went to Drexel because I thought co-ops would help me pay for school. They did, somewhat, but they also taught me how the corporate world works.

    You can also learn a lot of theory during co-op. I had a friend who was in constant danger of flunking out of EE; but got a good co-op with the Philadelphia Navy Yard. He'd flunk a class two terms straight, go on co-op, come back and fly through the class. Dealing with the circuits IRL taught him more than the books did.

    With that said, the Navy has had decades of experience in dealing with guns that make your whole battleship slew sideways when fired. There are ways to absorb and/or re-direct the recoil.

    Because, just because you need ID to buy a booze or cigs doesn't mean it's reasonable to require ID to vote.

    Or, look at it this way: If the government needs a subpoena to look at my credit report than why the heck is everyone else allowed to look at it whenever they want?

    Apparently they've been negotiating with Cisco the entire time. As of the day the iPhone was announced, Cisco was publicly stating that they expected to reach a settlement with Apple.

    My guess is that Cisco decided to do the Evil Thing and released their iPhone last month for the sole purpose of strengthening their hold on the trademark.
