The most original? Warcraft 2? StarCraft? If you have ever played myth, or myth 2, it is a completely game play type. Oni is not first person. It is wonderful. i have played it in person. The AI and Physics are so complete, the Programmers see the characters react in ways they never anticipated.
I agree, its not exactly an unbiased news source. But look at the fundementals, it covers the core technology differences bewteen firewire and USB 2.0 and how USB will literally require much more on Intels part to get anywhere near the useability of Firewire.
No offense, But blizzard and WestWood are really out of it. Want to see a real game, that makes q3test look like doom? check: oni.bungie.com and halo.bungie.com These guys are in it to make the greatest games ever, and it looks like they will.
Just because Intel decides to go and Not use it doesnt mean it isn't going anywhere fast. Epson just announced a new printer, where its 299 for the 100base t option or 199 for the FireWire option. Besides, Firewire is meant for Peer to Peer transmissions, ie you copy a file from one FireWire drive to Another, they do it by themselves, without having to go the computer. USB is Host-Client, and there is no way it will achieve those "specs" of firewire, considering firewire will be at 800Mbps by the time USB gets to 240Mbps. For more indepth look: http://www.mackido.com/Hardware/USB20.html
You are forgetting, the major speed increase is the AltiVec unit (128bit processor, to do my bidding =) ). Its like with good ole MMX, intel boasted a major speed improvement from a pent 166 to pent 166 with mmx if I remember properly, but the 200MMX wasnt a HUGE just. I mean, yeah the 1600 PowerMac G4 isn't as fast (nor does it have the internal airport/agp capabilities), but the 2.94 times faster is cpu cycle based, not video card based. So yeah, the $1,600 version may have some bottlenecks in it, but those bottlenecks arent neverly as severe as in the Pentium Systems

(remember, a GIGAFLOP, apple would not shit you about something like that, and a possible 4 gigaflop peak proformance. Now all we need is a shirt saying "This shirt is a munition, on the front, and on the back, So is my computer!)
I believe Yellow Dog Linux (aka black lab linux, aka terrasoft) was responsible for working with Loki for the ppc linux port. Gives me another reason to get linuxppc r5 on this powercenter again. check www.yellowdoglinux.com
Yes, blam is a very fun word. its a thing from bungie, used it since marathon, its the equiv of saying "I fragged you" but blam is much nicer. It was, until recently, the code-name for Halo, bungie's newest game, and also, to speak for one of bungie people i talked to at macworld expo, Blam! is just a cool word.
If apple is using the same color case system that they use in the PowerMac G3, or the iMac, one can change the color easily, if you can get the case off. The case is actually transparent (so ive heard) with a vinyl type tape on the inside, so they can change colors (ie they make transparent cases and slap the tape on it) without making new cases. Someone took off the case, removed the tape, and spraypainted the white parts in black, it looks really cool, ill post the url as soon as i find it.
Actually, the PowerBook G3s (which have been out for while now anyway) do have scsi, i can confirm this, because i checked one at CompUSA the other day, and it had the HD-50 connecter on it. The iBook does not have scsi, as it is meant for the same people who purchased an iMac, (the PowerMac G3s can have a scsi card added). Apple kept the scsi on the PowerBook G3s because there would be no practical way for a user to have an adapter setup, and still have the machine considered "a power user system, or portable desktop"
I Believe the apple store servers (the 6 g3s) dont hold the database on them at all. It is probably held on two - three other redudant systems (webobjects supports remote database and database mirroring on two different machines). Apple probably has it set up so all but 2 computers (one webserver and one database server) can crash and burn, but the webstore keeps running. Also allows for individual machines to be swapped in and out for repairs.
From what i have seen Having redundant processors/powersupplies/hds still is a problem if you have to do a software patch, but having redundant machines, gives more bang for your buck, expecially since you can run any one of them independantly.
store.apple.com is actually a cluster of 6 g3/400s running MacOS X Server 1.0 and WEbobjects. Only had one problem, and that had to do with the credit card system, the servers kept running 24/7.
Oh for those of you looking for un-breakable solutions, NeXT made something called Moniter.app
It keeps track of the server load on each machine (it runs on every machine) and sites incoming traffic to least used machine.
it works like this
Machine 1 has load of 50%, machine 2 75%, machine 3 90%. What moniter.app does is tell Machine 1 to reply to a request first, until the laods balance off, and until then, all the other machines just work on their current traffic/transactions.
As of now, bungie will always release simultaneously, on Mac and Windows (since myth I was a hybrid when it shipped.)
All bungie games are going to ship hybrid i believe, (mac/pc on the box) so there shouldnt be a problem. Oh, by the way. 15% of the game code is system specific The Program itself (the game engine) is 880k, so bungie did a very good job of keeping it "portable"
But it has changed, now, BECAUSE i wear a trenchcoat, dark clothes, people come up to me and ask me about it, i get to explain things, the way i dress etc. It really has to do with the fact that my school has already been shocked with two "diversity problems" once last year, when they tried to enforce a dress code, and one 3 years before, where some seniors hide the line "Kill All N*ggers" in the yearbook. So now my school has a diversity awareness club and the such. That is what needs to be done, something instead of fear, which leads to anger, which leads to hate, hate leads to suffering (thanks yoda).
Right now, I am not enrolled in school, because I did have way too many problems with the conformity it (still) produced in my students.
But i feel that me not being in school these last few weeks has helped me understand the problems, from an outsiders perspective.
I am currently trying to put together a junior year work program, for future students like myself, and also trying to put together a website.
The website is mean to emphasize that there are more groups of people other than black and white, rich and poor, and that there are those (geeks, nerds, etc.) who need to be given the same respect as any other group in this nation.
Also, i doubt that if the TCM was a group of racially different people, there would have been a completely different reaction. People would be saying "how could they have been led to such a rampage, the school must not have diverse"
I have an odd situation. I was and still am an outcast in highschool. I have already talked to a few people about this, but may as well get this posted here: www.secureshell.com/~zarquon/ is the soon to be website dedicated to keep the communication between the ostracized groups and the schools open. Right now it is intended for groups (Strategy Clubs, etc.) but that is because it is only in its infancy.
However, there was a basis of hatred that motivated them.
Think about it, if you are out cast from the "normal, human beings" it is easier to accept the fact that they are inferior to you and jealous, instead of realizing that they still are equals, even if you aren't treated as one.
Also, the bad apples aren't gone.
To deal with this problem, more is going to have to be done than just arresting possible suspects. I fall under those categories in more ways than one (trench coat, geek, goth clothing, enjoy talking german engineering accomplishments, as with any cool engineering feat.) so i was worried that my friends and I would be prosecuted because of it. You know what, the first thing the school did was call all of us together, to make sure that others would understand that we were different than those kids (I use kids, because of there twisted distorted understanding of the world was similar to a child who lived a protected life) in colorado.
Not only does immediate action help, but also equal emphasis, after the immediate threat of copycats etc., will have to be applied to the situation in Middle Schools, because you know what, that is where your opinion of others and their opinion of you, begin to set in, and during/after highschool it is much harder to break down those prejudice and bigotory ideas. So really, HighSchoolers should really begin to know and pay attention to peers who aren't in their "cliche," and may not want to be a part of it, but to respect them anyway. More action has to be taken towards the formation of cliches and the singling out of a few individuals in middle school, than in high school, because in middle schools, they be able to save not just the lives of potential victims, but save the lives of potential gunmen.
