From looking at the apple photos and the website: two observations. 1) The agp card is a normal graphics card, that sits in a 2x agp slot on the motherboard. 2) Apple is offering gigabit ethernet as a 200 dollar upgrade, which means, there may be either: a pci slot, or some propritary slot on the machine, which can be used for future upgrades. I am more interested in an upgraded video card on one, even thou it is 2x only.
Apple is replacing the two upper line computers in its product with MP powermac g4 machines. Machines with dual g4 processors. The benchmark (a photoshop manipulation) 61 secs, with a single g4 500 at 100 secs. and a pentium 1000mhz @ 120 secs. Pricing will remain the same, the optical mouse / and keyboard.
The photos are doctored really well (The author could make a living doing some good artwork, if he could work with his own sources). However, the logo is ripped directly off of apple professional photo gallery. I am looking forward for tomorrow keynote, planing to watch it with much enjoyment over quicktime. Anytime steve jobs does his song and dance, its a great show. I DO hope apple makes an entrance into the professional market. It looks like they'll be putting Radeon cards into some machine they are releasing tomorrow. And apple has tried the modular route before, it was called the preforma series, you could slide out the motherboard without having to disconnect anything. It was a bismal failure (not because of the modular motherboard)
"When they took the 2nd amendment, I was quiet because I didn't own a gun. When they took the 5th amendment, I was quiet becuase I wasn't guilty. Now they've taken the 1st amendment, and I can't say anything about it."
A good signature from someones email, very topical. Would like to find out who's quote it is.
I can speak from experience, as LCDs are too bad. I use one exclusivly on my powerbook, and quake is not a blue of pixels. Also, my system considers my LCD as having no refresh rate. My display suffers from some color shifting (worse part of any LCD display) but other than that, I love it. I just wish I have a Cinema Display I could plug it into when I came home every night (well, actually a magma cardbus -> pci bridge, containing a DVI outpot enabled video card, but whose counting?)
Yeap, I am either the same form of lamer, or they havent implemented the website fully. It may be a "Wait till the movie comes out" sort of thing. My friend was rejected actually! I have heightened physiology, Heightened sense, rapid healing and possible structural implants. Psionic level 4.7 I got into xiavers office by jimming the lock. Anyone reply as female?
Wait, cancel the netscape comment. Its IE 4.5 justified by the little tabs on the left hand corner, which I think people only find in the mac version of it, i dont know, but I always get rid of them on macs.
bwahah, yes it is, it is a macintosh screen. It looks like an old Apple IIgs modified, and the screen capture is definatly a mac screen. And it looks like the browser is netscape. Be even funnier if it was omniweb and osX. The computer looks like a modified IIgs. Is meant to say this is all we will be stuck with if microsoft isn't free to inovate. Than down with the king.

Yeah, No more "supposed" learning disabilities

Great. No more people who suffer the manic cycles of creativity that bring us things such as the Theory or relativity, or other ground shattering inventions. If ideas, concepts, or things are to be created outside of the normal area of thought, with the purpose of possibly shedding light on the norm, how can that be done if people dont have these supposed learning disabilities? I am someone who has been certified as having ADHD and partial dyslexia, and for some reason, I find that they help me with my thought process, since ive been able to learn how to live with them, not just try to over power them with drugs. What would I be like if I didn't "suffer" from these afflictions. Would I be smarter (since I supposedly already fairly bright, by concensus of friends, doctors, and the such) or would I actually be considered less intelligent, since I wouldn't have my odd and sometimes disturbing view on situations, which has led to many of my insights in life. They shouldn't be called Learning Disabilities, they should be called Problems learning in the same way that schools have been teaching. To get back to my main focus, research has shown that most of the great inventors, thinkers, of our past ages weren't exactly the most genetically perfect people (or mentally stable), so what will happen now if everyone starts producing genetically perfect people. I mean, would Ernest Hemingway would have been as good of a writer if he wasn't so obsessed with his writing being perfect, he may be still alive, because he wouldn't have suffered from the depression and wouldn't have taken his head off with a shotgun.
My take is this: Helps with diabetes (which my dad suffers from) or other diseases, sure, but it is hard for me to say "Away with LDs" since they are what have made me unique. Would I be unique without them, yes, but not nearly as so as I am now.
just so you know.... www.magma.com makes pci expansion boxes, for powerbooks (connects via cardbus) dont know how well they work, but they would allow you to plug your pci cards into your laptop. So you know, every musician ive met (all of whom use macs) usually just keep them in a closet, or in a sound proof box, with one of those long exhaust tubes one finds on dryers. You run the tube out of the room, and they use a really strong fan to pull the air out that way. Works really nice
How can your PDA be used for an advertisement? Easy, wonderful Bluetooth technology that lets all you common electronic communicate effortlessly and wirelessly, can easily be able to get information back and forth. I guess they take it that everything you own is bluetoothed, allowing the advertisers to locate your pda (be able to find it via your cell phones IP, and cross reference that with your gps, or just have your GPS report the cell phone's ID) and have it so all banner ads or whatever that are to load on your PDA, whatever advertisements, be set to your location.
Now the nice thing out of this is that if Fryes and Compusa had a "Get their sale at any cost" behavior. Just walk back and forth between the two locations. As you approach the fryes, compusa gives you a $50 rebate on all items, hed towards compusa, and fryes would give you a $100 rebate on anything in the store. Walk back to fryes, get $150 off at compusa, walk to compusa get $200 off at fryes. Do this for a day, buy a few grand worth of equipment, sell it. Along with that buy a PowerBook G3 with airport, and a nice VAIO with a wavelan card, and have them connect to each other. In the end you get some nice machines, a good wad of money, mabye 2-3 hours fo physical activity, and your PDA shuts up cause wavelan network signals interfere with bluetooth to the extent of making it useless.

Don't know your exact defionition of conduit, but air conduits are even better. Get some nice 4-6 inch diameter ones run to every room, if possible, makes snaking cable a whole lot easier. If they are alimunim, your cables get added sheilding also.
just a thought. my house is already wired, though I plan to make it wireless this summer.
for my dad to replace his old packard bell machine. Only if it came with 10/100baset so I could plug it into the network. If anyone gets the ethernet hack working on it, I am going for it (I dont have the money nor time to work on it myself, unfortunatly, and probably not the knowledge either) if it is cheap enough, I would love to put a coupla of the around my house. IE in the bathroom, etc.
Hey, Any case you could post an ISO of it somewhere? Would be a great tool for others. If you need a place to keep to it, email me, just remove the *nospam from my email. Would be a great tool for others to use, even if it isnt on a little cd / biscard
Sorry, My dad is actually running it on his old packard bell, was too excited about being a 1st post to finish. Hopefully this will bring in some nice cash for Caldera, to work on making a great distro for people such as my dad, who wants to run linux, but is still a little intimidated by the debian install process.
Is doing the IPO biz. Caldera makes a great Business distro of linux (OpenLinux) that is easy and simple to install, and it lets you play tetris during the install process. My dad is actually running. BTW, 1st post
Apple has a backwards compatibilty layer you can code for. it contains around 80% of the APIS from MacOS (the good ones, ie, ones that dont cause problems with multitasking, memor, etc.) and it is called carbon.
PLEASE read apple's website about this, it is fairly indepth, and has a good load of information about it already. Apple doesn't just do press releases usually, they usually have a site about the product up right after they release it.
I was thinking about this also. But i realized, its not what Microsoft is trying to do (make money off of you, by having you unknowingly adopt their standards etc.) It would be similar to what Intel tried with the pentium Three. "We made you a processor with some extra exec units, here are some free programs to run on it" Also, apple is providing a level of Internet Service, ie, apple is Bundle a Computer Experience, which is what you get when you buy a mac, not just a box or a piece of software.
Its not like there isnt a viable alternative for others, nor do you automatically get sucked into using iTools (which is cool by the way) when you get a mac. And iCard and iReview are free to non MacOS users anyway.
To talk about the User Experience: Apple is giving away FREE websurfing filter software, but it is doing it properly. Instead of filtering out sites that you shouldnt see, it only lets you visit sits you can see. This is of course possible for explotation, but I doubt it, and btw, Apple has a really good review of Slashdot.org on ireview also.
The difference between what Apple is doing and what Microsoft is doing (btw, AppleWorks 6.0 has support for slideshow presentations, GOOD BYE Powerpoint) is that Apple isn't boxing out the competition. They aren't using API's that others developers can't use, or run their programs because of it. Also, if you uninstall AppleWorks, it won't reinstall itself to be able to "function properly"
Apple is an example of capitailism done correctly.
Because the Mach kernel is _really_ cool. That is why. It also extends the flexibility of the OS, remember, apple was going to provide Rhapsody on intel, and they, did, and it wasnt too hard.
Think of Hurd. Now think what power it would have if there was a company backing it as its sole operating system. Think of that that company as apple. Think Different
Remember Darwin? That is at the heart of the operating system. Steve Jobs said (i believe) " Darwin is the kernel of OS X... It is very Linux Like..." then goes on to talk about preemptive multitasking etc. He DID not say the entire OS is going to be GPLed, he just confirmed that Darwin (which is supposedly the Opensource version of OS X server) is still going to be around for OS X. It is free, you can download it now, and they do have a CVS library for Darwin. To give you an idea, Darwin is ~50 megs in size. Don't trust that article, if you really want info, go to www.apple.com they have information posted on OS X now.
A lot of you have forgotten. Newtons had really powerful hand writting recognition. May we could see about getting some of their code. A friend of mine uses a newton 2100 as a replacement for a laptop (Risc 117mhz) for checking his email. It has adapted to his handwriting pretty well. And its VERY fast.
Well, Either the T-1 Got knocked out, or slashdoted, dont know which is worse. Anyway, if you noticed, the Archive/Backup site has had the same imagr from the webcam up (showing 10:29) for a while now, althou you can see some "broken"images in the archive. Just thought I would point that out.

And the new pro mouse is meant for either hand.
forgot to end my own commnet =)
